Urbanmech on wheels
« on: 28 February 2015, 10:50:52 »
Inspired by a recent MotW article, this is supposed to be an even cheaper way to defend your cities-and when you've got wheels under you, you don't need to go with a 60 rated engine-a mere 10 point upgrade gets you rolling as fast as a Urbanmech IIC can run.  And the cost isn't shabby either.

Why not replace the fusion engine with ICE? Would be cheaper (a bit, at such low ratings), even if you have to make the unit bigger. Replace the laser with some machine guns and half a ton ammo.

If one ups the mass by 5 tons, you can get some more armor and the price is still under 500k.

Partly because I wanted to use a fusion engine, partly because the cost saving isn't so great-just about 150,000 c-bills off the final cost, and partly because I wanted the small laser to keep the urbanmech feel intact.  The extra armor ton and a half I can squeeze on is just a bonus really.  Then I realized I had forgotten the completely useless 11th heatsink, and ran back to my design program to make a variation with that added back in. :D :D

I uh.... I don't know how to do a quadvee with the stuff I have on hand.  I looked it up in the TechManual, but they're not even mentioned there, and I somehow doubt they're in StratOps.  On the other hand, I did find out that I can remove the AC/10, drop in a PPC and rev up the engine for an actually mobile vehicle, but that's another thread.

love the UrbanTank URB-T4, would be something that House Davion would use to defend small and medium worlds.

It's so slow a PPC would be bad as it can't get away from anything that gets too close. The lost 3 hexes at max range will hardly matter in a city, but the minimum range will kill you.

Same tonnage, same armor, same speed, same weapons, spends one ton on an extra heat sink - it's like it was the original idea! (Except for the lack of JJs, that is... :( )
