I would love to know what everyone thinks about Fortunes of War 4: Hounds at Bay. Please post your reviews here, ask me questions, whatever you'd like. I can't get better without criticism, so have at it!

The ending of this actually hit me emotionally. Most battletech novels are fun and enjoyabler but it's rare for them to have a emotional hit to them but this.... for some reason this hit me..

It was a great story.  Merc stories, especially small-timers that aren’t regularly meeting House Lords and influencing major historical turning points, are my favorite part of BT.  Lately I’m really enjoying the Hinterlands as a setting.  I’m always going to be a fan of a story that combines the two.  I was worried you were going to overdo the Big Damn Heroes trope, with it occurring essentially twice (I hesitate to say too much, spoilers, etc).  A third time would really have had me rolling my eyes.  But two is fine, especially when the second was kind of a Chekov’s gun moment anyway.  No way that character was going to be mentioned saddling up and then *not* show up just when needed.

Some really great characterization in there too, especially around the hospital.  Really made me sympathize even with the Captain, who seemed like kind of an ass otherwise.

All Hail First Prince Melissa Davion, the Patron Saint of the Regimental Combat Team, who cowed Dainmar Liao, created the Model Army, and rescued Robinson!  May her light ever guide the sons of the Suns, May our daughters ever endeavour to emulate her!
