Naval Rifles (homebrew)
« on: 04 February 2020, 13:45:39 »
Got this idea while reading a thread about HMS Dreadnought's shell vs 'Mech armor.  These are the 10 to 18 inch guns (10, 12, 14, 16, 18) used by naval warships in the early 20th Century.  I mainly extrapolated some from the assumption that the Long Tom artillery piece is roughly equal to an 8 inch naval gun.  The following are nowhere near exhaustive or definitive, being merely abstractions of real world weapons.  Also, I decided to keep them somewhat close to the Cruise Missiles in TacOps.  Ranges of the rifles are about half that of real world maximum ranges for balance purposes vs Cruise Missiles.  Lastly, since these are not technically artillery pieces and need to fit onto large naval vessels, space taken up is roughly about 40% of weight.  If any changes are felt needed, please let me know.

Code: [Select]
Weapons                Type     Damage     Range        Ammo(per ton)    To-Hit Mod       TC Comp     RulesLv    TechBase      IntroDate  TechRating
25.4 cm Naval Rifle   AE,S,F     30A     22 boards           1                  0            No         Adv         IS            PS       B/E-X-X-X

35.5 cm Naval Rifle   AE,S,F     40A     33 boards          3/4                 0            No         Adv         IS            PS       B/E-X-X-X
40.6 cm Naval Rifle   AE,S,F     45A     37 boards          2/3                 0            No         Adv         IS            PS       B/E-X-X-X
46.1 cm Naval Rifle   AE,S,F     50A     42 boards          1/2                 0            No         Adv         IS            PS       B/E-X-X-X

Weapons                Item/Ammo Cost     Mass   Space
25.4 cm Naval Rifle    675,000/17,500      35      15
30.5 cm Naval Rifle   1,000,000/30,000     50      20
35.5 cm Naval Rifle   1,500,000/50,000     75      30
40.6 cm Naval Rifle   2,275,000/82,500     90      40
46.1 cm Naval Rifle   3,500,000/137,500    120     50

Naturally, I couldn't, in good conscience, post these without doing alternative ammo as well.

Ammo               Type  Damage    Range  Ammo(per ton)  To-Hit  Rules  TechBase  TechRating   IntroDate  Cost
Flak                  DB.F  As TO352      -             x1                 +0         Adv         IS         B/E-X-X-X        PS       x1.5
Armor Piercing    DB      x0.5           -             x1                 +0         Adv         IS         B/E-X-X-X        PS        x4

The damage modifier for armor piercing ammo is due to game balance vs armor used by 'Mechs, combat vehicles and fighters.  This is counterbalanced by the special ammo weighing the same as normal.  Otherwise, treat a hit like an AP round from an AC/20.

Well, if there are any problems with these, please let me know.  I am open to changing things around some.

Finally, I do not have battle values for these as I do no know how to calc those out.

Peace.

That... is interesting, to say the least. It allows for more interesting designs in the large naval category, particularly surface vessels.

Too bad MegaMekLab doesn't have large naval vessels and the only other electronic vehicle creator for battletech that does is behind a paywall. :(

Keep supporting the SSW crew, and maybe they'll get around to it?  8)

Nope... SSW is back under development by a new team.  There are a couple of threads around here about it...

Here's the first one I found: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=67174.0
Eh, I want more than just mechs sadly. MegaMekLab is probably going to be the only thing I can use for the near future...

I'm talking about the large naval craft... but then again the only one that does that is behind a paywall...

I kind of like to have it all in one format as it were... but if you can find it, it would be appreciated.

I'll look for it this weekend... I don't remember it being easy to find.

They were easier to find than I feared:

Here's a general one:

And one for small support vehicles:

That... is very interesting and needs a bit more work. :\
