(Non-Battletech) Leviathans!
« on: 12 December 2013, 11:58:19 »
Flying warships and steampunk technology? Of course I'm into Leviathans! While the miniatures come prepainted, I've never been one to leave well enough alone. Here's a small handful of ships I've painted up.

The County-class light cruiser HML New Zealand, in 'colonial' colors that make life aboard ship more bearable in warmer climes:

Having only recently arrived from duty over the Lorraine border, the Grenouille-class destroyer Grenadier still bears the darker colors of the home fleets:

Finally, Jean Bart is the pride of the Flotte de Volée, a Paris-class battleship and one of the most feared vessels in the sky:

And for more pictures, here's a battle report featuring all three of these vessels.

Gorgeous sculpts. Great work on the 'touch ups.' Very nice.

How do they look next to the Dystopian Wars ships?

They're close in size to dystopian wars.

I've played this game a couple time at Steam con here in Seattle( played at the largest game ever too).  In the room we were in they were demoing distopian wars too so I could compair them. Leviathons is a bit bigger.

 Great job Weirdo.

Rise, my thread. Rise, and conquer.

I finally finished off my main British fleet!

Two battleships of Home Fleet's Channel Squadron, escorted by a cruiser and three destroyers.

Leviathan-class battleships HML Leviathan and HML Medusa. Yes, that means that first leviathan is the Leviathan-class Her Majesty's Leviathan Leviathan, from the game Leviathans. No regrets.

The County-class light cruiser HML Essex.

The D-class destroyers HML Crow, HML Raven, and HML Beagle.

I noticed that the Destroyer Beagle has 1 black smokestack, the Raven has 2 and the crow has 3... Is this a visual numbering scheme or just an accident of how you wanted to paint them?

It's intentional, inspired by the historical practice of painting stripes on ships' funnels so that it would be possible to identify individual ships at sea. Before I decided to paint and label the stems, that was my plan to be able to identify ships on the board. If you look closely, you can see that Leviathan and Medusa also have funnel stripes. Essex has no stripes because my only other County is New Zealand, seen in the first post of the thread. Being painted in radically different colors, there's no chance of confusion there. :)

Games are a lot like minions, in that both are only as dead as those who play with them allow!

Lovely work, wonder what scale those are and if turrets could be refitted with appropriately scaled naval ship model parts now.

They're described as being 1/1200 scale, so sure.

? Don't remember that. We've always tried to not pin down specific measurements, let we have the 90m machine gun issue.

But they're ballpark in that range.

Wise choice. If Battletech has taught me anything, it's that you should NEVER give the fans anything that can be mapped to anything real-world. It's even worse for a game than publishing construction rules.

I was thinking more, if I ever got a ship or the game, to spruce up the detailing a bit.  Or even trying to kitbash a model kit using them as a guide.
