Title: Battletech at Game HQ Oklahoma City, OK
Post by: faithless on 10 July 2018, 15:58:13
It was time to start a fresh thread that had all the important information about our group on the first post.

Hi, My name is Billy aka Faithless. I am a demo agent in the Oklahoma City, OK metro. We play almost weekly games at Game HQ. This ranges from  campaigns, faction tournaments, grinders, king of the hill, capture the intel, etc. We play most eras. We primarily play Totalwarfare / Battlemech Manual rulesets. For units we use mechs, vehicles and infantry. For terrain we use 1.75in hexed mats with 3d hills, trees, buildings and terrain. We play with many advanced rules but always welcome new players. There is no such thing as a stranger at our game table and often we can get new players rolling dice with us in no time.

Where we play:

Game HQ, Inc
9118 S Western Suite B
Oklahoma City, OK 73139

Main store: 405-691-0509 (after 11am Mon-Sat and after 1pm Sundays)
Game Room Hours: Open late to about Midnight Monday – Saturday.
http://www.gameheadquarters.com/ (http://www.gameheadquarters.com/)

Game HQ also carries source books, paints, and the new releases from IWM as supplies last. They can also special order minis.

When we play:

Most Thursdays nights. We try to have dice rolling by 6pm and finish around 10pm. We occasionally play on Sundays as our schedules allows. We post our events on the Oklahoma Battletech Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1513040152317722/). The Oklahoma Battletech group also has events posted from different groups throughout the state. I will also post those events here on this thread.

Local Conventions and Special Events:

Members of our group are also active at local conventions. We run events at Soonercon, Tokyo in Tulsa, and have recent expanded to running events at Warlord Games Con. When time allows we also try to participate in Tabletop Day and Extra Life fund raisers.

What does a new player needs to play?

Just yourself! We have extra units, dice etc on hand. If and when you are ready to start building a force on your own we can help point you in the right direction.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or post on this thread.

If you would to read some of the post from our old thread  you can view that here (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=40323.0).

For a few weeks we will meet up and go over rules, have some 5k games to get people used to building units, and answer questions. If you need a faction, let me know and I can help you out with information and minis. The rules are posted in the following link.

We have completed all the tournament matches we can without the completion of Braedyn - St Ives vs Gabe - Smoke Jaguar. I know scheduling is complicated but we either need to get this game finished or move on. If there is a day that works better for yall and it can be played with paper maps please do so.

For Gabriel Buchanan I know Thursdays are hard because of school. Sundays are usually doable if he can sort out a ride.

Chris W, since you talk to Braedyn quite often if you can help find out what day would work for him that would be fantastic.

We had a great grinder event at Extra Life. We had 11 players and raised $40 bucks selling edge at a $1 a piece. Our donation was a small part of a larger effort towards a $7000 goal for the event. That goal was exceeded with the event raising nearly $10,500. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.

Gordon - Clan Wolf took the win in the faction tournament.

We are on hiatus till after Thanksgiving. We will return to the Total Chaos Campaign Thursday Dec 5, 2019 at 6pm. This will be at Game HQ.

Initial details for the next Total Chaos game.

Enroute to Blue Hole, the Cannon's next jumpship was dealing with a malfunction. This is keeping it from making the final jump to Blue Hole. No other accommodations could be made and the Cannons would have to wait for parts. The transportation company contacts you with information of a job. A crashed dropship was recently unearthed in an arrid part of Kooken's Pleasure Pit. It is rumored to have a cache of parts that could be used to fix their jumpship. They offer a contract to escort a team to the site. The resistance is expected to be light.

We had a nice campaign game where the mercs had to rescue a lead tech needed for a jump ship repair after he got in trouble planet side. They were able to complete the mission but Amanda Wolf's (Erik) Cyclops was lost to multiple ammo explosions. Steven's Barghest was a mission kill but can be repaired.

We had a great campaign game last night with 13 players. Part two of the mission on blue hole was set for Feb 13th, but many people on the merc side may be busy. With that and the chance of last minute work commitments Feb 13th will be an open game. Maybe king of the hill using Gordon's hill if he is available.

Please check era off the mul ( masterunitlist.info)  current versions of skunk works and Megamek lab.

We will be playing an open 5kbv2 points game using Total Warfare (Classic) Rules. The technology level will be mechs available up through the Clan Invasion (3061). If you have any doubts about the era and the battle value for any mechs feel free to ask in the comments or check masterunitlist.info.

Bring 2 mechs and include piloting cost in the point total. No more than a 2 skill difference between Gunnery and Piloting (ie. G2 / P 4 etc).

The plan is to start rolling dice at 6pm or sooner if people are ready. If you are running late let us know in the comments and can work you in when you arrive.

We have standardized our movement dice to the colors in Battletech Manual and I have plenty to lend.

We will require masks at the table while playing and depending on player count we may split off into two tables.

I am not going to run this as an official event so there are not stipulations on miniatures.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

We had a nice start back to gaming last night. We had 4 players and a few people who watched. Thanks to Chase, his daughter, and Ryan for hanging out and asking questions as well. Also JJ came by to say hi. Our plan is to play every other Thursday. The event is on the Game HQ calendar. I also post a FB event in Oklahoma Battletech, in the Oklahoma Battletech discord and here in our thread on the Official Battletech Forums. We will continue to do 5k skirmishes for a few sessions to get people back used to playing. Then we can look at scenarios and eventually a return to the ongoing Total Chaos campaign. When we get closer to relaunching that I will post an updated unit spreadsheet as well as talk to people about helping me with opfor or joining as a merc.

With my copy of Tukayyid in hand,  I will be looking at running some of those fights as demo events. I will see who wants to play as the Clans or Comguards. And make sure we have units painted. Next event is Thursday May 13, 2021 at 6pm CT, Game HQ OKC

Thursdays Event at Game HQ OKC

** Please read, there has been a small change to unit construction **

This event will be slightly different. You will still be allowed up to  6100 BV2 but you can have up to 3 unit. They may be mechs, conventional infantry, battle armor, ground vehicles, or vtol. No protomechs. You must have at least one mech but your other two units can be of the other types.
We will be playing an open 6kbv2 points game using Total Warfare (Classic) Rules.

The technology level will be mechs available from any era so people can try out new units or things they normally do not play. If you have any doubts about the battle value for any mechs or units feel free to ask in the comments or check masterunitlist.info.
The unit cost must include the skills. No more than a 2 skill difference between Gunnery and Piloting (driving or anti mech) (ie. G2 / P 4 etc). The one difference is if an infantry type cannot do anti mech attacks. Then the skill difference is waved. Total force point total up to 6100 bv2. The extra 100 points account for how bv balancing can work sometimes.

The plan is to start rolling dice at 6pm or sooner if people are ready. If you are running late let us know in the comments and can work you in when you arrive.

Oddball question from a rando. I've lived elsewhere for years now. Is this the same store that used to be, I think, further to the east of OKC? I think closer to the area that used to be Crossroads Mall? I last was in the area around 2004-5. Went between three shops, one near OU, one near Tinker, and what I think was HQ, but not sure.
Title: Re: Battletech at Game HQ Oklahoma City, OK

Game HQ has been off 89th street in OKC since I started dropping by in the early 2000s. In 2015 they moved a mile east to 89th and Western. Wizards is still in Norman, but has moved to the west side of town into a much nicer shop. New World is in Del City sorta by Tinker. There was a shop of some sort in Cross Roads mall when I was really little but I am not sure what the name of it was. I grew up in Lawton / Ft. Sill but had family in OKC and later would come up a lot as I raced rc cars.

Maybe it's just spotty memory that it felt like it was on the E side of I-35. I met Savage Coyote/Ross there when he was going to OU.

And while the shop that was *in* Crossroads wasn't one of the three, I think I know that one. I was 12-13 and remember seeing it... on the second floor above the arcade. There was a copy of Battlespace and I got a copy of Battleforce there.

I remember looking at rc cars at that shop at Crossroads. And remember it being on the second floor.

If you met Ross there it was likely Game HQ at it's older location. That was a bit before my time. I would stop in and buy some mechs that I ended up doing nothing with in the early 2000s. Then I moved to OKC in 2007.

It's funny. A lot of the original FLGS stores didn't have a strong enough business model to make changes or move. My first exposure to BT was in walking distance of my grandmothers in Pasadena. There was a shop on Colorado Blvd. where I got my copy of the 3rd ed.

edit: Might let the shop owner know there's still "Lorem Ipsum" test paragraphs in their store history section.

We will kick off our Luzerne Campaign this Thursday June 24, 2021.

I will have a selection of units and minis to use. If there is something special you want let me know. Otherwise there will be plenty of units to use. I will be running this as an official demo event. If you do bring you own mini please make sure it is an IWM, Catalyst or RP Unseen. If you have any doubts shoot me a pm and I will be glad to help.

Smoke Jaguar players
Clan mechs and battle armor available up to 3059 to Smoke Jaguar. I have a star of omni mechs already in Smoke Jaguar colors.

Inner Sphere Coalition players:
Comguard, Davion and Kurita mechs and vehicles available up to 3059 from the master unit list. I have Comstar, Davion and Kurita units painted up.
The missions types will vary so having units of different sizes and speed would be useful.

Any requests for units I need to cut off by midnight Wednesday. This will be the first of multiple games and we will not use all the units every game. The scenario will be posted in the comments.

We had a great game last night with 14 players in attendance. Next time I will be prepared to split into two tables for for the mini campaign.

AAR

A quick AAR of the battle.

At 11:00 bandit forces cowardly attacked the supply depot in the lowlands of Lawrence Pass. Multiple depots were destroyed, some resulting in secondary explosions of munitions. These explosions did not cause any further damage. The Fourth Provisional Garrison Cluster, lead by Star Colonel Jonathan Osis repelled the bandits with minimal losses. Any causalities were taken in service to the clan. Hunter-killer groups have been deployed to annihilate these dishonorable foes once and for all.

It is game day!
I have everything loaded up as I will likely be leaving straight from the office. I organized units based off what was still useable from last game and added a few. As I mentioned last night units will have damage and ammo consumption. The scenario is the CSJ are fighting a running battle chasing down the "bandits" that attacked the supply depots. Each side did not have time for major repairs or reloads. So, all units will start with some damage and less ammo. Some damage is carried over from the actual game play and others it is added to reflect the on going fighting. The terrain will be forest and hills.

Thank yall for another great game last night. We had 11 players and got in 7 turns. The IS forces putting a good beating on CSJ. The clan side lost two mechs early with an ammo explosion and ejection and. A headshot that hampered their efforts. Almost all mechs ended the night with internal structure damage.
The next game is July 22nd.

Scenario for Thursday.

Cat and Mouse
SITUATION
Drake Woods, Old Mesa Commons
Luzerne, Smoke Jaguar Occupation Zone
6 July 3059
With several of their supply transports shot down and others scattered across the planet, many of the separated SLDF groups found themselves running low on  supplies right after landing. Not willing to just lay down and die for the Smoke Jaguars, they took it upon themselves to obtain supplies any way they could—even if it
meant ripping them from the defending Clan.

Saturday Sept 4, 2021 some of us are getting together for a small mech swap at Game HQ. Trading is allowed, but no selling out of respect for GHQ and their store policies.  There should at least be a few of us and be there for a little bit hanging out.

We will be hosting a Battletech Grinder at Game HQ during their Extralife Event.
Battletech Grinder at Game HQ's Extralife Event Saturday November 6, 2021 Start time 12pm and end time 6pm CT

Battletech Grinder is a progressive free-for-all Battlemech combat, designed to transition players from the introductory scenario to the full scope and technology of the Battletech Total Warfare Core rule set.
Players begin with a light Battlemech, equipped with the most basic weapons. When that unit is destroyed in combat, the player re-enter the Grinder with a more powerful Battlemech equipped with more advanced weapons and new equipment This continues until the player commands the most advanced and deadly units in the game. Players can play as long as they wish, leave, and return during the scheduled event listing if they wish due to the continuous nature of the Grinder. Grinder can accommodate from 2 to 10 players in the space we have at Game HQ.
All materials are provided.
In addition for Extralife, we will be giving every player 1 point of edge to use for a re-roll. If you make donations to Extralife you can get more.

I have not gone a great job of keeping this thread up. We have had events but I mainly post on our FB group and Discord. Below are the details for our next event.

I will be running a Battletech event at Game HQ this Thursday April 14, 2022. Game starts at 6pm.

The mission for this Thursday will be a Strike. Comstar will defend up to 6 buildings at the center of the map. One building is secretly the HQ. Each side will have a commander assigned by their respective side. CJF comes on board staggered and Comstar deploys anywhere on the battlefield as long as 25% of the force is within 3 hexes of a building.

Objectives will be discussed at the event.

Battletech pickup game Thursday June 16, 6pm at Game HQ

Open Era

8k bv2 for the total force including skills

No more than 2 skill separation (2/4, 3/5 etc)

Conventional infantry and battle amor not capable of anti-mech attacks are exempt. ( As in does not have the skill, not you don't want to use the skill to mak e the unit cheaper.)

Combined Arms encourage but not aerospace fighters / conventional fighters. Onboard artillery is allowed.

Minimum 4 units - no maximum unit count, just no conventional infantry or small units swarms. It will slow down the game.

Soonercon 30 - 2022 Recap

After a few years off due to the pandemic we were able to host Battletech at Soonercon 30.
Friday started with the usual interest in the Grinder table and Bootcamp. This year we also had more Alpha Strike demos than previous years. Friday night was the Tukayyid: Assault on Dvigrad Fortress. Ghost Bear fought the Comguards. They inflicted heavy damage but took heavy losses as well and could not secure  Dvigrad Fortress. Comguards took a convincing win.

Saturday started with Grinder, Bootcamp, Alpha Strike and the Urbanmech Showdown. The Urbanmech Showdown was an odd game as you would expect being all Urban mechs fighting it out. Those little trash cans put out more damage than they can absorb. Ray Ralston had the most kills with 4. The next event was the King of the Hill tournament. Chris Horvat finished in 1st place receiving a Marauder II painted by Cap'n Ed and two salvage boxes. Jeffery Gordon 2nd receiving two salvage boxes and Ray Ralson 3rd receiving 1 salvage box. From 10am till 6pm we ran a most kills mini tournament on the Grinder table. Athena won with 5 kills receiving a Lancelot painted by Rob Henderson. We finished off Saturday with a Clan Hell's Horses Assault of Melissia in the Vesper March during the post Ilclan Era. Melissia was the staging planet for the Hesperus Guards. CHH was able to break through the Guard's lines and inflict major damage while doing so, taking the victory.

Sunday is usually a pretty chill day. This year we quickly expanded to a second Grinder table while still running a few Alpha Strike Demos. Ending a great convention.
Thank you to the Soonercon staff and Bill for having us back again to run our events. Thank you to Brent, Kevin, Braedyn, David and a few veteran players that pitched in and helped where they could. Thank you to Oklahoma Battletech and Game HQ for help with prizes. Thanks to Cap'n Ed Smith and Rob Henderson for donating their painting services for prize support. Additional thanks to Cap'n Ed Smith for the Oklahoma Battletech dice he had made and donated to the community. Last but not least thank you to the players that filled our tables. Without you none of this is possible.

We hope to see you all again in 2023.

When that unit is destroyed in combat, the player re-enter the Grinder with a more powerful Battlemech equipped with more advanced weapons and new equipment This continues until the player commands the most advanced and deadly units in the game. For this event will will have Edge and Power Ups in play.

The Great Urbanmech Uprising of 3120
In the 3120s, the Solaris games Commissioner Cyrus Matherwood IV, excluded Mechs that do not meet his standards from major competitions, including the Urbanmech. Rufus Jansen, pilot of the UM-R70 UrbanMech "Dark Angel" protested this ruling and was thrown out of the Grand Tournament qualifiers due to his mech choice. After being thrown out of a meeting with the commissioner, he devised a plan to ambush the commissioner and change his mind.
Players will have the choice of fielding urban mechs or a security force as members of the Urbie Derby collective demonstrate and cause trouble.
This event can accommodate from 2 to 8 players. All materials are provided. And will be played using TW / BM rules.

The full story can be seen in Shrapnel Issue 8

Soonercon Update:

Paint events:

I spoke with Mike, one of the organizers for painting events at Soonercon. They are adding a best mech category and we have prize support for it.

Please consider entering no matter what skill level you are at. In the past we have received feed back from the judges on where we can improve. Just as important is to show the organizers that there is interest in these events.

Battletech Events:

Friday June 30, 2023 to Sunday July 2, 2023
We will be running Bootcamp, Grinder, Alpha Strike, Scenarios, King of the Hill etc. Please check out the links before for more details.
This first link is a spreadsheet of the events scheduled the whole weekend.

Due to last weekend's weather event, we've have had some people drop for the King of the Hill Tournament at this year's Soonecon. This means we still have plenty of player slots available.
If you are wanting to play, you can find the sign-up page here:
King of the Hill Signup (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vNKBbSZ09RUs7QLTntREf8LsxSZ5Ndw3MVH2_YYFdmM/edit?pli=1&fbclid=IwAR1xGAelBCVRhFRUxTXE3ko8t9glzm334Fv3iQaiBCFGewoapEACvqMhv68)
Please close attention to the rules about mech choices. They need to be within the Civil War Era. Easiest way to find a mech within that era is to go to the Master Unit List web page:
http://masterunitlist.info/Unit/Filter (http://masterunitlist.info/Unit/Filter)
Use the following filters:
Types - BattleMech
Production Era - Civil War
Availability Era - Civil War
This should give you a list of the mechs you can choose from.
