I've never tried, nor know of anyone to use solder on joints.
What kinds of results have any of you seen, or have had, compared to the more common methods?

Difficult, but doable. You need a small soldering iron, low temp solder, and be very careful not to melt the pewter.
No-Dachi has a counter-argument. Nothing further? Ok.

Tried it exactly once, on an old-sculpt Executioner.

The short version is that I won't be trying twice.  :'(

I recently saw some ebay auctions where the joints on numerous Unseen minis were soldered. They looked horrible. I'd say that it's an expert-level technique, not to be attempted by the average hobbyist.
