Miniatures of the Fortnight #60: Catapult and Catapult II
« on: 17 January 2019, 22:20:09 »
The Catapult is one of several LRM-based 'Mechs from the good ol' days of Technical Readout: 3025.  It is one of the first mostly LRM 'Mechs with decent maneuverability but, really, not enough ammunition.  If you'd like to know more about using it in game, it has a 'Mech of the Week article and an Alpha Strike 'Mech of the Week article.

The Catapult has several metal sculpts:It also has three plastic sculpts:
  • The "stocky" PlasTech sculpt.
  • The plastic miniature released by CGL in the previous editions of the intro box and the Command Lance Pack, based on the beginners set sculpt .
  • The plastic miniature in CGL's current (or upcoming) Game of Armored Combat box.
The Catapult has a younger, larger sibling, the Catapult II.  It has its own 'Mech of the Week article and its own recently released miniature (20-5159).

If you have any of these painted, please share pictures.  We'd love to see them!

Like always, thank you for reading and a special thank you to those of you who post.

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • Clan (1/28): Rifleman IIC
  • Inner Sphere (2/11): Trebuchet

I'll need to collate and collect all my Catapults, but here is a start.

My magnetized omni-Catapult.  Can choose from several configs to represent on the board.

I have four Catapults, two plastic and two metal.

First is the model from the last intro box and one of the first minis I painted when I got back into the hobby (and it shows  :) ).  Second one is the modern sculpt from IWM.  Third up is the AS lance pack version from my Illician Lancer battalion.  And last is my K2/K4 model in forest camo.

Ahah! Finally!

Now, my Team Green can have its place.

Along with a Federated Suns Armored Cavalry one off the crap-plastic out of the post-25th Anniversary box I did for a friend.

Aside: When Team Brown's is done, I'll put it up here, too.

But, that's not all. I have my own unique offering to add to the list: My travel pack, map-scale Catapult. It's been repainted, and when I have a moment, I'll post the new pic. But, here it is with its original coat.

I managed to keep the cockpit glass transparent, too.

Only a singe C4 in Tikonov Republic Guard colors.
The only minor change done to this mini was filling the gap over the launcher axis.
