Ground Combat / Re: Force Organization thought experiments

True, good point.  However, their aerospace assets will be... busy elsewhere, either way.  Clan Aerospace didn't turn out as effective as their Mechs and Battle Armor did, for some reason.  Still, it's not like the defenders will know that.  Oddly enough, and Orion (of all things) has the AA Quirk, too.  It's just as surprising as the Hatchetman!

Yep :) It is surprising the Orion and Hatcheman are good at AA.  I'd also forgotten the Orion's AA ability but I remembered the Hatcheman's and the hatchet lets it deal with those that get too close.

Depends on the time point.  In this case, the defenders won't know better until it happens.

In that case a Hunchback would make sense.

That would be pretty solid, and might be in keeping with one of the one-planet polities which can employ a Regiment.

Funny thing about a Security Company, they expect people to come to them, so speed isn't that big a factor.  Heck, I could even have a Lance of Urbanmechs be involved and it wouldn't be too far out of character.  Still, as you say, Commanders like Assaults (and even Heavies) on the front-lines where possible.  And since their job is to escort and cover an artillery park, speed isn't a prerequisite.  Even Centurions and Enforcers could be considered for such work, provided they were available to be acquired.

True and I had thought of a lance of UrbanMechs. :) But I wasn't sure if they'd be in the field or not and they'd want to be fast enough to keep up with the artillery they're protecting. They might be okay for protecting a Rail Long Tom though that just travels around a city. Centurions and Enforcers would be good.

If I had one, it would probably work.  Getting one isn't a priority, as I've never cared for how it looked, or really needed on before now.

If you think it'll work you could go with papertech or a proxy.

I asked the Transformers wiki. Turns out, the multiverse struck again:

In some continuities this ability to transform is innate to all members of the species, in others it was a wartime innovation that was adopted by most, but not all, of the populace.

Yet the Foley matched an Autocannon, not a missile launcher.

I agree. That was one of the reasons I thought it an AC/20 (And you can compare the sound with the volley from the Catapult without playing the game). It simply made sense on every level. If it were a Victor, the AC/20 would be in that arm. This is why it is best to simply file it as a Mechwarrior game problem that we live with because the game, opening included, itself was gold.

It's interchangeable with "unit" or "mech/tank/fighter/etc." It's another way to make your sentences less repetitive.

According to Legends, IIRC, by the time he became Focht, his active combat days were behind him and he only piloted his Atlas to keep his qualification current. He wanted to serve frontline, but IIRC ComStar felt he was worth more back safe than in harm's way.

Specifically, Focht was the Atlas pilot. Fred drove a Zeus. He was apparently a bit of a gearhead when he was young, as his bio in the House Steiner says that he was also an expert technician for it.

I remember reading the first one many years back.  Didn't realize it ever got a sequel.

Anything you give me I'm just going to turn into 2nd Donegal Guardsmen. If they're pre-painted that's just an extra step for me.

Phobos is an asteroid that got caught.  We can't be expecting much of it, or any disappointment is on us.

Just finished Rats, Bats, and Vats by Eric Flint & David Freer, and started on the sequel, The Vats, The Bats, and the Ugly.

Cloned human conscript and some uplifted military animals vs alien invaders, with a good dose of humour.
