More crack please
« on: 22 January 2014, 17:04:55 »
Our last dose of "crack" was December 3rd. I know there are MANY items in the pipe (forgive the unintended pun) for release...but could you guys possibly "feed our need" for Battletech with a little something???   O:-)

In all seriousness...can we have a rough idea, even if you cannot give us the title of what's being released next, as to when we can expect to "feed our need"???

Thanks

I guess that the CGL may be working on The IlClan sourcebook. Wasn't it supposed to be published in the last December or so?

Maybe the pipe is clogged with something big, (like the sewers of London).

It was never going to be out that quick (last update from CGL was it was still being written).  Someone started speculating about it on here and chinese whispers lead people to think it actually was going to be released over new year's

http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,36674.0.html

get your little fix here

That's not new, we've had a ballpark release date for the new box for a while.

Weirdo, I'm pretty sure we were told the target for Ilclan was end of 2013/beginning of 2014.  But it was given with the caveat of "we hope" or "possibly" or some such.  I believe it was stated around a year ago.

I can not site a source (don't have time to find it right now) but it was either in a Battlechat or came from a Battlemaster avatar here.  I am confident it was given as an estimation from an official source.  However, I am also confident it was accompanied by several caveat/hopefully/maybes.

There was a lot of chatter about it in Battlechats before they stopped, Ben Rome teased it on his blog, it's been mentioned as in the works repeatedly on this forum by CGL folks.  We know it's coming fairly soon, but I'll grant there has been a good deal of wild speculation.

The wild speculation is what I'm trying to stop. Somebody says "I wish we'd get BobTech next month!", then others will actually be expecting it in that month, and then rant and rave that CGL is going down the tubes because BobTech wasn't released on time, then when BobTech doesn't come out for another six months, people keep accusing the writers of incompetence. Then someone really likes BobTech and expresses a wish for BobTech II: Bob Harder, and the same process repeats itself until people are predicting Catalyst will fail in the next week because they haven't yet released a product they were never even planning to make.

Long story short, unless a post has a direct clickable link to the original source, it's random BS and should be ignored. Saying "I read it in some Battlechat some time back" is especially not a valid source.

GhostBear said it was about 90% written but it'll be awhile before it comes out.

90% of IlClan is written.

But it won't be on the docket for a while.

I think in some of the old battlechats they were talking about getting the Ilclan out by the end of the year and being in open waters next year. But herb stepped down as line developer since then and it was never a hard date. So things have changed a lot...

or.. err.... "I... read it in some battlechat... awhile ago?"

The battlechats are usually posted on the forums, and thus can almost always be linked to. And yes, I do expect people to do that kind of digging every time they want to reference something from them. It's called citing your sources.

Maybe we could get a blank ".jpeg" with a suggestive file name?

*scratches arm*

I mean, maybe just a signed letterhead with my username on it?

*sniffs air and then rubs nose*

Or a pixelated screencap of an email from a writer who is thinking about suggesting something?

*rubs hands together suggestively*

In all seriousness though, when I got "bored" with past IPs and the parent companies not feeding an addiction to my liking, I turned to writing my own fiction and RP'ing. It may certainly me apocryphal, but if you can weave some guesses into the narrative, then perhaps some of it will stick? There's certainly a huge tapestry to add to, and while I am certainly not competent enough to submit anything to Battlecorps, it can be fun to try and imagine how an event might play out in the Battletech world.

Postulation of possibilities produces a pleasant pace at present , but penning prose provides particular passion and perspicacity otherwise private from persons powerless to expound upon their prized perceptions.

<Habeas2>: Spaceman1 - Era Report: 3145, TRO: 3145, and Field Manual: 3145 are the key books of the 3145 period we are working on. There is also an Era Digest planned to cover the early Dark Age period (when the "pirate factions" showed up), a Historical to cover the wars in between, and the final book of the 3145 priod will be The ilClan.

<Habeas2>: Mostrojoe - 2013 is basically the year we go through the Dark Age setting. From beginning to end, for all intents and purposes, we will be watching the entire era unfold and reach its conclusion with The IlClan sourcebook.

May I ask since when it has been forbidden to speculate when BattleTech products may be published? I am looking through the Rules I can't see anything against it?

The forum rules don't have anything to do with it. Basic common sense does. Anyone who has been on these forums for a decent lenght of time knows that baseless speculation brings nothing but sorrow. It'll never be stamped out completely(this is the Internet aft all), but that doesn't mean we can't fight against it.

I am totally okay with baseless speculations and I don't know why it should be my obligation to fight against them. And I have never felt sorrows you have described.

We havent really had new fiction in a long time. Im honestly feeling a sort of desperation for the Ilclan Sourcebook.

Knowing it still is a little way off is painful. Which is honestly strange. Its not like I need the next shadowrun product.

I never participated in a harry potter book launch (or cared to) but I imagine thats the same level of obsession im suffering from currently.

The fact that I cant speculate without others assuming im privy to information im absolutely not makes it a struggle.

So I understand Weirdo.
