(Answered) Heat-Seeking Munitions
« on: 07 December 2018, 07:52:49 »
For Aerospace units, the only alternative missile munitions that they may use are Artemis IV (TW, p.238) and Artemis V (TO, p.283).  There is one other missile munition which appears to be available to Aerospace units, and that is the Heat-Seeking Missile (TO, p.369).  The rules state "An additional modifier of –2 applies if the target is currently on fire (see p. 43), or if the target is a Fighter, Small Craft, DropShip, JumpShip or WarShip and the line of attack passes through its aft hexside".  This implies that this munition may be used by Aerospace units, as the only way to use Heat-Seeking ammo against a JumpShip or WarShip is on the Space Map.

1)   May Aerospace units use Heat-Seeking munitions?

2)   The second bullet point under these rules states "Against non-heat tracking units or units that have not overheated, Heat-Seeking Missiles receive a +1 to-hit modifier".  For purposes of this rule are units that are on fire, or an Aerospace unit being targeted by it's engines (aft hexside), considered to be "overheated"?

3)   Battle Armor that is equipped with a BA Myomer Booster (TO, p.287) have rules which state "Battlesuits equipped with Myomer Boosters generate excessive heat, making them incapable of operating as hidden units and rendering any Stealth or Mimetic Armor ineffective. ECM systems will still affect other electronic systems that pass through the ECM “bubble,” but the suits themselves remain visible on sensors due to their heat signature".  For the purpose of the second bullet point, are BA Myomer Booster equipped units considered to be "overheated"?

4)   XXL fusion engines (TO, p.309) are stated to run very hot.  Just standing still generates heat with these engines.  Is a Combat Vehicle or a Conventional Fighter, that is equipped with an XXL fusion engine, considered to be "overheated" for purposes of this rule?

Ground units may operate on the space map. There are multiple canon designs built for expressly this purpose.

Sure, that sounds fun.
