We are in the midst of a tournament now, but my agent said he was thinking about adapting one to our Jihad (3069) merc campaign.

Received my POD copy yesterday and it is a superb product. It really reminds me of the old original House books, even down to the paper quality. Great artwork throughout. Very nice.

Ray deserves full credit not just for the layout decision to mimic the old House books, but also for making that the overall intent of the content. (initial outline was much more like the kind of faction writeups we do in FMs)
Also, HBS was extremely supportive of the effort, as you can see from them letting us use so much of their art.

I'm pretty pleased with the project. I feel it's an example of what can be possible.

The solution is just ignore Paul.

my pod showed up while i was out of town and let me say, like the combat manuals, i got a better appreciation for the quality of the book paging through it physically than i did from the PDF.

it makes me want the other house books brought up to this standard now...

I'd love the House books to be brought up to this standard as pages (well whole sections) are falling out of my Steiner book  :-[

It's obvious that was the "standard" back then as the same thing happened to my Rogue Trader rule book lol

I hope when we finally arrive in the future beyond 3150, we get new set of House Books using House Arano style if it's not too taxing on CGL.

Actually, what I want to do is run a small campaign based on that book and timeline before starting back up our Jihad campaign.

by default at least. we don't know the exact origin of the variant back in the time of the SLDF, but it was what was found in the cache in the 3020's, not something customized by a character.

The main thing that bothered me about the Atlas II is the autocannon is a rotary type in the art and mini, making it seem more like a RAC, standard or Ultra type, not a LBX, at least to me.

I don't think there ever been a guideline for artist what weapons are suppose to be made like.  It bothered me alot when i started seeing that pop up.  Now it's norm, making LB-X (shot gun) look like Rotary.

I thought the normal Atlas II did use a RAC in the arm?  This will place a regular old AC/20 in the torso.

the art on the record sheet is from 3075 for the AS7-D-H with the gatling lb-10 in the right arm. like most other variants, the -HT doesn't get new sheet art.

Big fat nope.  There is Atlas with RAC, couple variants, but Atlas II never had one since it was a Star League design that predates Rotary Autocannons.  As cool as the Atlas II & III for that matter look with their Rotary like autocannon, their wrong.

This is from TechManuel, what stero typical autocannon is suppose look like in appearance.

Oh I know what the cannon example looks like but I thought one of the Atlas II had been updated to modern equipment.  I know Stone's Atlas (II or III, not sure) is pretty well tricked out.

And will CamoSpecs be putting the three red & gold Arano Royal Guard scheme, yellow & bronze Antian Lanciarii, and sea green & gray Irukandji Company?
Actually, the Antian Lanciarii just get a "gold" reference in the book.  Looks like it's weapons (or paintbrushes) free for anyone who wants to paint the Royal Guard, and....dunno when Irukandji Company will get an official stamp.

Huh?  Gold?  The fiction that has the . . . Griffin 1S step out next to the Thunderbolt is 'gilded in yellow-and-bronze' (pg7) . . . so is that sunlight/perspective/shadow showing different shades of gold?

Finally I have acquired House Arano and I am pretty pleased. It was worth waiting.  :)
One little complaint I have is the lack of TRO stile writeups for the APCs.
But aside from that this is a perfect compliment for new players that only own the AGOAC box set. To me it has a vibe like the starter books that were sadly discontinued.

Art was from HBS art book originally, with permission of the company to allow CGL use it right?  It's super nice art, very classy.

Writing is excellent.

Physical copy arrived about five days after ordered. While I've read it twice in PDF form: I love my dead tree format books and it does slot in nice with the rest of the collection. Now trying to figure out how to build a mercenary unit to utilize the Argo and yet be Periphery styled and not a Wolf's Dragoons level of awesome.

Make them warrior-explorers. They specialize in recon missions with little to no support, venturing into the wilds of space to find worlds for colonization, detect(but rarely attack) pirate bases, maybe the odd extraction. Basically, the kind of missions where the ability to operate for long periods over long distances is more important than brute firepower, but truly unarmed teams would get eaten alive(possibly literally) by the threats in the area.

No more than a lance or two in strength, sticking to mechs for their versatility plus some infantry support. Some basic aero assets, might even be solely consisting of armed shuttles carried directly on Argo.

Needless to say, groups like IE or the Explorer Corps would have them on speed-dial. :)

I still don't quite buy the Argo's story.

It's supposed to be a civie ship but...

  • It has mechbays for a company to be worked on, complete with advanced automation and fabrication facilities
  • It can hold 6 smallcraft/fighters, a full aerowing
  • It had SLDF military maps
  • It had that super virus

I have to wonder if it was truly a 'civilian' ship or if it was more like a Bug Eye.  Two Confederates could carry 12 mechs, and would fit on those collars...

An explorer or salvager would find those cubicles invaluable for carrying WorkMechs and ExplorerMechs. Same for those shuttles, a decent spread of small craft and fighters are an absolute must for journeys in wild space.

As for the rest...I'm going to assume Argo had an...interesting career between the time it disappeared and the players find it. A could centuries is plenty of time for hijinks and shenanigans. :)
