Informal poll on Battleforce Minis
« on: 11 November 2011, 09:58:50 »
Just curious about a few things.

1) have you purchased any Battleforce scaled Minis yet, either in the packs or in the singles

2) do you plan on purchasing them?

3) limit four designs if you could add to the line what would you add?

for me, I have purchased the inner sphere set, and I do plan on buying a some singles here and there.

as for what I would add if I could decree additions to the design  One of each class for me Panther, Centurion, Vulture, and Zeus

1) No.

2) NO.

3) None.

Smaller scale of mechs with less detail do not interest me, especially if they are already available.

Ditto. I feel like the whole Agents of Gaming B5Wars/Fleet action miniatures debacle demonstrated pretty conclusively the folly of two scales for a niche game with many units.

I'd like to see the entire line replicated in BF scale

Our playspace is limited to a 4x8 table. Larger hexes=smaller battlefield. Games devolve into he who fields the heaviest mechs wins. BF minis fit into 1" hexes. This means you can comfortablly fit 15 mapsheets on a 4x8 table.

Nothing specific in mind, but I like the variety of the box sets, and I'd like to see them continue to venture outside of the more common 'Mechs.

3rdCrucisLancers has a point about the economics, but I really like the smaller 'Mechs if you subtract that issue from the equation. Smaller = cheaper and fit better on a mapsheet, especially with the size creep with the standard sized minis.

No, not yet.  But only because I didn't particularly like all the miniatures that the full box sets came with, and they'd have gone to waste in my possession.

2) do you plan on purchasing them?

Yes.  Now that there are individual units available, I'll be purchasing a good handful with my next IWM order.

3) limit four designs if you could add to the line what would you add?

More of the basics (Original Omnis, IS stuff playable from 3025-3050+).  If I have to choose four specifically...?  Summoner, Dire Wolf, Warhammer, Centurion.

Nope, although I had a few (Atlas, Nexus, Gallowglas, Kodiak) from their original production experiment with these minis some years ago.  I was also given a few of the Battlemasters as a promotional item/gift.

2) do you plan on purchasing them?

Yes, eventually.  They're BT minis so how could I resist?  ;)

3) limit four designs if you could add to the line what would you add?

Eh, I don't know.  Might matter more to me if I ever played BF rules.  I'd prefer that effort go to more mech-scale minis, faster.  Not like we've run out of minis to sculpt.  :)

Im going to have to chime in with 3CL here.  I really dont see the point of the minis.

"But their used for BF!  Dont you understand?!"

*plops a full size Gargoyle down on the map*  "There.  That mini represents my Clan Wolf Assault Star."

The simple fact of the matter is that you can easily just use your regular BT minis to represent your Stars, Lances, and Level IIs.

They are without a doubt a niche product that only a few people will purchase on the grand scheme of things.  I know some people like them and want them, but I am not one of those people.  I also want begrudge anybody who wants them.  They just arent for me.

On the other hand however they seriously need to add some "better represenative" mechs for the Clans.  A Kodiak and a Mad Cat Mk II to represent Assault Stars?  Hellion, and Ice Ferret?  More generic mechs for the Clans would have been much better in my book.  Mechs like the Adder, Stormcrow, Mad Dog, Dire Wolf and even the Gargoyle.  Simply put in my eyes the Clan line of BF minis needs a much better selection.

No, no, and don't care. I've got regular 'Mechs, Protos and BA for smaller minis, ASFs, and Warships to keep me occupied. The smaller 'Mechs just don't interest me.

3) I don't think I get a vote.

I love the idea of the Battleforce Minis. I think they're a great idea, but I have such a huge investment of both time and money in 'mech scale forces already that I can't really see myself switching, and I don't need both.

3 - N/A

I am invested in the current scale and I'm not interested in working in another scale.  I don't have enough time to paint or play as it is, I plan to keep spending what time (and money, of course) on the miniatures that match what I already have.  Additionally, even if I wasn't already invested, I prefer larger miniatures.

1. No. (Note - I am a big fan of the micro fighters)
2. No, because I've already got the 6mm 1/300 scale miniatures.  Why should I get smaller ones?
3. I wish IWM would concentrate on getting more of the normal scale minatures out.

2) I really like the idea of them, i think it's a great concept. Unfortunatly i'll have to go with 3CL's indea. I'd buy them if i didn't already own so many of the regular sized ones and am invested in this size.

3) If i were to suggest 4 - Penetrater,Crimson Langur,Hector( heck i want a regular size one of them first),Penthisilia.

Re the poll ....

1) No.

2) Not likely to - too much invested in 1:285 scale stuff (not just 'Mechs, but vehicles, infantry, etc)

3) Clan Nova, Uller, Hellbringer, Black Lanner

I have them.  But I'd go with something else for Battleforce.  I'd prefer a smaller scale of minis that would fit a lance or star on one hexbase that represents a given weight class.

I also agree with 3CL and others.  Smaller 'Mechs are of no interest to me.  If I want to portray a Heavy 'Mech/Lance/Star, I'll just pull out one of the many CBT minis I have.  I won't go looking for dedicated BF minis.

1) I have not.

2) I don't really see the need for them, to be honest. I gave it some thought, but after viewing them in person at Historicon, I decided I just don't need to go that route- I have a fine selection of minis in the standard scale.

3) I admit, some of the choices made in the two sets were a little strange. The Zeus, the Vulture, both come to mind, but aren't likely to get me to buy them- merely as a suggestion for things that will sell to others.

2. Maybe
3. Pick four of the old 3039 designs, yeah those will do I really don't care.

Although I like the idea of Battleforce getting coverage I don't know if this was the right way to go about it.
Instead of making half scaled minis for Battleforce how about just scaling down normal 'Mechs that are too big to fit on hexes?
