How is a Raven like a writing desk?  I can't think of a single thing they have in common.  One is a walking electronics suite and one is a, well, desk.

This fortnight we're looking at the Raven and its successor, the Raven II, newly standard (for some value of "new") light 'Mechs for the Capellan Confederation.   They're not the most powerful light 'Mechs but they're useful, or at least seem to be.  These 'Mechs used to have a 'Mech of the Week article but it was taken down.  You'll have to make do with the Raven's Alpha Strike 'Mech of the Week article.

The Raven has only had two sculpts so far (with, I believe, another one coming from the Clan Invasion Kickstarter):
  • The original metal sculpt (20-992)
  • The plastic sculpt released by CGL in the Command Lance Pack, based on the metal sculpt
The Raven II only had a mini released in the past few years and only has the one sculpt (20-5167).

If you have any of these miniatures painted, please post pictures.  We'd love to see them!

Thank you for reading.  And a special thank you to those of you who post pictures.

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • Mixed (5/25): Highlander and Highlander IIC
  • Inner Sphere (6/8): Blackjack and Blackjack OmniMech

Here's a plastic Raven, in Warrior House Imarra colors:

There's a second metal sculpt of the Raven, from the Mech Commander Inner Sphere boxed set. It's the same as the first sculpt with additional details added. Raised panels over the top of the torso are most notable. This sculpt replaced the first in distribution.

There is two different metal sculpts of the Raven. With minor differences. If I can find the time I will try to post pictures of the two.

That's the boxed set/resculpt. A string of raised panels runs over it's back like a belt (or like Chewbacca's bandolier). Lucioras first attachement (dark raven with gold cockpit glass) is the first sculpt, his second attachment (red/black scheme) is the second sculpt.
