WVR-6Y Wolverine (Blazer Mafia)
« on: 01 May 2017, 20:39:56 »
OK, so, I decided to try to do this as close to a field refit as possible, and while the weight works, the criticals placement were off slightly from being a perfect swap.

The right arm AC/5 to blazer cannon was a piece of cake: the blazer is 4 criticals, 9 tons, while the AC/5 was 4 criticals, 8 tons, plus 1 critical/ton for the ammo.  Meanwhile, in the left torso, removing the SRM-6 rack freed up 4 tons, but only used up 3 criticals.

In the end, I decided to keep the four heat sinks in the left torso, and just leave the blazer in the right arm, to keep the arm weight the same.  The LT is over the original by 1 crit, the RA under by 1 crit, but weights work out exactly.

You knew I'd be around eventually... I like it! O0

I think when I did mine, I started with a WVR-6M, so some of the crit placement was different...

A Wolverine without an SRM pack?  It almost feels like heresy.

Almost. ;) This, notably, started out a large laser/RL design, until I realized the primitive WVR-1R didn't have the SRMs.  My goal all along was a zombie WVR on the less high tech side, and then I also realized I hadn't done my Blazer Mafia Wolverine. ;D

As far as 55-tonners go, would say that the Blazer actually works best on a Shadow Hawk rather than a Wolverine.  Not only does it give that 'Mech a far more nasty punch, but it also seems far more worthy a representation of that huge over the shoulder cannon.

Also, Turbo Zak FTW ;D

No access to my MML as I write this, but my knee-jerk reaction is to swap the AC for Blazer, and drop the LRM 5.  Add another SRM 2 (Mech's flavor) add 2 heat sinks.  14 heat sinks, Blazer, 2 SRM 2, medium laser.

Honestly, I was thinking of a straight up swap of the AC/5+Ammo for a Blazer, no other mods.

Yes, you can easily get into the game of "But just take out a few secondary weapons systems here and add heat sinks here and here..."  While that is all good and optimized, I kind of enjoy the original 3025 'Mechs for their various imperfections.  It adds character, and forces players to make some tactical choices other than "Just close to X Hexes and Alpha Strike"

To me, a Shadow Hawk that just swaps the Blazer for the Autocannon still feels very much like a Shadow Hawk.  The key difference is that instead of being laughably oversinked (really, how many times have you had a basic SHD-2H regularly run the heat curve?), you actually put those 12 heat sinks through their paces.  You've got your LRM-5 for long range plinking, your Blazer for midrange work, and the SRM2/ML (plus perhaps physicals) up close.  Seems fairly in line with a stock SHD-2H to me, with the real difference coming in that it will play a little more like a WVR-6M in that you will run hot some turns and retreat occasionally to cool off.

Interesting idea... and so is Snimm's (long time, no see!), though I think there's value in retaining the LRM-5 like the K-variant does. SSW makes it pretty easy to export stats into code tags here, if either of you are so inclined...

Want to get really stupid with the Shadow Hawk idea?  Take your 3025 SHD-2D and just give it a straight swap of AC for Blazer.

Here.  The blazer and 1 heat sink (which already existed, but for some reason is a pod rather than fixed) fit perfectly into the slot vacated by the AC and its ammo.  It might not have armor, but at least it's got more heat sinks!  Wait, uh...yeah!
