Original Hatchetman Rules
« on: 19 January 2015, 01:29:59 »
Some of you may know that the original Hatchetman had three extra heat sinks since the hatchet didn't have construction rules.  To my knowledge, every record sheet published has been with the hatchet and 11 heat sinks.  The TRO originally gave it 14 heat sinks.  I was just thinking it over and came up with an interesting rule for the Hatchetman that could be fun with to play with.  :)

"The true genius of the NAIS Hatchetman was not the creation of a physical weapon.  Such weapons had been fashioned and discarded centuries ago as wastes of space that could be used for proper weapons that destroyed enemy 'Mechs at range.  No, the true genius of the NAIS Hatchetman was the invention of a cleverly designed handheld heat sink sturdy enough to be used as a physical weapon.  Capable of dissipating up to three points of heat, the most clever of Hatchetman pilots would bury their hatchet into an enemy 'Mech before venting the heat into their enemy.  This inventive use of the hatchet soon made the Hatchetman a hated and feared BattleMech throughout the Inner Sphere and beyond."

:)

Rules: Each critical space of a physical weapon acts like a single heat sink.  If one critical space is hit, the entire weapon ceases to act as a weapon or as a heat sink.  During the heat phase, the wielding BattleMech may choose to dissipate any heat generated this turn, up to the weapon's heat sink rating, into an enemy BattleMech if it successfully attacks with the physical weapon this turn.

That would make any hatchet wielders (especially TSM having mechs) nastier!
It's not who you kill, but how they die!
You can't shoot what you can't see.
You can not dodge it if you don't know it's coming.

I wish I could code into mega mek!!!  What would be the extra BV?
Their is no problem Jump Jets and an assault class auto-cannon can't handle.

Honestly, because I don't like messing with BV so I'd be tempted to add a "breakage" roll for any "heat sink weapon" like this.

Say every time you successfully attack with it, you have to roll to see if it shatters.  It would explain why standard physical weapons don't act as heat sinks.  And still give you some fun.

Or maybe just handle it like an ultra.  On a to-hit roll of 2 you actually "hit" the enemy but...um...badly...;)  No damage, it goes puff, and you have a paper weight on your arm.  hehehe.

It would end the TSM bonus though, since it would be venting it's heat into the other mech.

Medron.... That is a truly brilliant and nasty idea you had.  O0
