BattleTech Filk Songs
« on: 27 January 2020, 17:10:02 »
So, been meaning to post these for awhile.  First up is one suggested by a list of BattleTech filk songs my friend who got me into BT found way back when, mostly based off popular Christmas music.  Given my avowed hatred of popular Christmas music, they tend to run through my head pretty consistently from Black Friday through New Year's Eve.  But it's occurred to me there's one particularly annoying song that hasn't gotten the BattleTech treatment, so I set out to rectify this now:

Simply Having A Wonderful Bloodname Trial

refrain
Simply having a wonderful Bloodname trial!
Simply having a wonderful Bloodname trial!

The coins are flipped,
I'll choose the spot.
How shall we fight,
Augment or not?

refrain

The Warriors start their fight,
They're fighting for the right,
Bloodright, Bloodright, Bloodright, Bloodright!

refrain

(Yes, it's a tad short, but I refuse to listen to the whole song and give it a proper filking.)

Second is one I've had in my head again since I initially got into BattleTech, and coincidentally had been listening to my Mom's Dr. Demento CD a lot.

Transfusion based on "Transfusion" by Nervus Norvus

Stompy 'Mech sounds

Stompin' through the battle doing 79,
I'm a twin pulse papa (alternately, "twin ER peeper") and I'm feeling fine,
Hey man, dig that, is that a red warning light?

explosion

Transfusion, transfusion,
I'm just a solid mess of contusions.
Never gonna overheat again,
Slip the blood to me, Bud.

I jump in my 'Mech about a quarter to nine,
I gotta make a date with that dustoff site,
I hit the jump jets man you gotta make time-

explosion

Transfusion, transfusion,
Oh, man, I got the trashborn convolutions.
Never gonna overheat again,
Shoot the juice to me, Bruce.

My fingers on the triggers and they're made of lead,
But I'm a quick-shootin' daddy with a real cool head,
I'm gonna blast a tank on the hill ahead-

explosion

Transfusion, transfusion,
My red corpuscles are in mass confusion.
Never gonna overheat again,
Pour the crimson in me, Jimson.

I took a little drink and I'm feelin' right,
I can blow up everything, everything in sight
There's a Mad Cat ahead, I'm gonna blast him out of sight!

explosion

Transfusion, transfusion,
I'm a real gone paleface and that's no illusion.
I'm never gonna overheat again,
Pass the claret to me, Barrett.

A-rollin' down the mountain on a sunny day,
Oh, when you see me coming better start to pray!
I'm a-cuttin' up some Toads and I'm the boss all the way-

explosion

Transfusion, transfusion,
Oh, doc, pardon me for this crazy intrusion.
I'm never gonna overheat again,
Pump the fluid in me, Louie.

I'm burning through my ammo early this morn,
I'm shooting everybody oh nothing but corn,
Man outta my way I'm coring this Thorn-

explosion

Transfusion, transfusion,
Oh, nurse I'm gonna make a new resolution.
I'm never gonna overheat again,
Put a gallon in me, Alan.

Oh, barnyard pilots are found in two classes,
Ammo-spending hogs and overheating jackasses,
So remember to cool off today.

Hey, daddy-o,
Ah make that type O, huh?
Atta-boy.

Transfusion makes it rounds on my phone occasionally, neat to see a mech version of it!

Lyran Social General
Source: Modern Major General by Gilbert and Sullivan

I am the very model of a Lyran Social General
I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral
I know the dukes of Tamar, and I quote the fights
historical
From Hesperus to Hesperus, in order categorical

I'm very well acquainted, too, with matters
Economical
I understand mech building, both the battle and industrial
About Defiance output I'm teeming with a lot o' news
With many cheerful facts about the manufacture of the
Zeus

With many cheerful facts about the manufacture of the Zeus
With many cheerful facts about the manufacture of the Zeus
With many cheerful facts about the manufacture of the of the Zeus

I'm very good at defusing political animus
I know the hierarchy of all the nobles close to us
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral
I am the very model of a Lyran Social General

In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral
He is the very model of a Lyran Social General

I know our mythic history, the Marsdens and their mental rots
I answer hard acrostics, I've a pretty taste for
paradox
I quote in elegiacs all the crimes of Vicious Claudius
In conics I can floor peculiarities parabolous

I can tell undoubted Raphaels from Gerard Dows and
Zoffanies
I know the croaking chorus from the Frogs of
Aristophanes
Then I can mumble praise to Blake to the visiting Precentor
And chant all the fight songs from that infernal Skye-pit Sanglamore

And chant all the fight songs from that infernal Skye-pit Sanglamore

And chant all the fight songs from that infernal Skye-pit Sanglamore

And chant all the fight songs from that infernal Skye-pit Sanglasanglamore

Then I can write a washing bill in Babylonic cuneiform
And tell you ev'ry detail of Kerensky's first dress uniform
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral
I am the very model of a Lyran Social General

In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral
He is the very model of a Lyran Social General

In fact, when I know what is meant by "mamelon" and
"ravelin"
When I can tell at sight a Combine Charger from a Javelin
When such affairs as sorties and combat drops I'm more
wary at
And when I know precisely what is meant by
"commissariat"

When I have learnt what progress has been made in
KF jump theory
When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery
In short, when I've a smattering of elemental strategy
You'll say a better Social General had never sat a gee

You'll say a better Social General had never sat a gee
You'll say a better Social General had never sat a gee
You'll say a better Social General had never sat a sat a
gee

For my military knowledge, though I'm plucky and adventuresome
Has only been brought down to the turn of the
Millenium
But still, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral
I am the very model of a Lyran Social General

But still, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral
He is the very model of a Lyran Social General

Original music: Farewell tae The Creeks by Hamish Henderson
Original filk: Green Hills of Harmony by Al Frank
Filk of the Filk: Don't Ask by Frank Hayes

Which eventually led to this:

The bidding is done and they march us away.
There's a battle to fight, and we join in the fray.
God, it is hell when you know this could be your last day ~
But it's better than training a sibko.(alt: better than fighting Kai Allard)

So March, March, April, May, June, July,
August, September, we'll fight every day,
And it's fare-thee-well all vestige of modesty ~
All of the Clanners are singing.

Well some want a bloodname, some lust for the thrill,
But the truth is we Clanners are mentally ill.
We'll fight in our mechs what our hands can not kill ~
God, it's hell to encounter a Warship.(alt: hell to encounter Kai Allard)

So March, March, April, May, June, July,
August, September, we'll fight every day,
And it's fare-thee-well all vestige of harmony ~
All of the Clanners are drinking.

We Clanners have honor, we always fight fair,
Except when we're losing and then we don't care.
For defeat is disgrace that we never could bear ~
And we only can breed when we're winning.(alt: and we only can beat Kai by cheating)

So March, March, April, May, June, July,
August, September, we'll fight every day,
And it's fare-thee-well all vestige of honesty ~
All of the Clanners are cheating.

And when the battle is over, and the fighting is done,
If three of us made it we figure we've won.
'Cause we count the survivors, and count them by one
Two-um-one two-um... Many!(alt: one two-Stravag it's Kai Allard!)

So March, March, April, May, June, July,
August, September, we'll fight every day,
And it's fare-thee-well all vestige of comedy ~
All of the Clanners are counting.

Just something I put on the Clan Wolverine Not-Named thread years back.

Clan Wolverine - The Stonecutters of the 31st Century

Who controls the Marik Crown?
Who takes the HPG net down?
We do, we do

Who keeps the Five Worlds off the maps?
Who keeps the lostech under wraps?
We do, we do

Who runs the Wobbies from afar?
Who pulls the strings behind Com-star?
We do, we do

Who paints ComGuard fighters white?
Who rigs the Solaris fights?
We do, we do!

Allegedly.  :P

 ;D
"A dread fear rests deep in the heart of Clan Coyote that one day a lawyer will arrive on Tamaron talking about intellectual property rights, the Mercury II and the Coyotl omnimech and this will herald the end of the Clan as the Not-Named sue their asses into bankruptcy for patent infringement" - The True History of the Clans (Dark Caste Press: 3050)

Thanks Tex.  Your latest video From SLDF to Clans inspired this bit of filk.

Exodus Road
(Set to the tune of Holiday Road)

Kerensky set out, long ago
Along what would become the Exodus road
Exodus road
Exodus road

Alex had a problem, Alex had to make a pick
Decided to take a left at Pivot right quick
Exodus road
Exodus road
Exodus road
Exodus road

Kerensky set out, long ago
Along what would become the Exodus road
Exodus road
Exodus road

This one everyone should know:

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He shoots the spitting AeroFighters down.

Helpless Atlas on the firing line
Screams bug-eyed as he marches on it.

He loads up some rounds and he shoots them back down
As he wades through Awesomes towards the center of town.

Oh, no!
They say he's got to go
Go go Gausszilla!
Oh, then!
There goes Luthien
Go go Gausszilla!

History shows again and again
How fandom points out the folly of Clans.
Gausszilla!

Sounds like I need to drag out the CBT Songbook again ... must be 20 years by now?

And the Rocky Horror BT Show. But most of the forumites named are now gone  :'(
* No, FASA wasn't big on errata - ColBosch
* The Housebook series is from the 80's and is the foundation of Btech, the 80's heart wrapped in heavy metal that beats to this day - Sigma
* To sum it up: FASAnomics: By Cthulhu, for Cthulhu - Moonsword
* Because Battletech is a conspiracy by Habsburg & Bourbon pretenders - MadCapellan
* The Hellbringer is cool, either way. It's not cool because it's bad, it's cool because it's bad with balls - Nightsky
* It was a glorious time for people who felt that we didn't have enough Marauder variants - HABeas2, re "Empires Aflame"

The things that go through your brain when you're making a sandwich on a hot day. . .

Based on this song:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi3Xt3Yjk14

Bold text is best read in the voice of the MechWarrior Betty of your choice.

BattleMeching, across the Inner Sphere!
Fighting epic battles, not much else to do here!
BattleMeching, across the Inner Sphere!
Hop into our death machines 'coz we don't know no fear!
(Under ComStar's leadership, what is there to fear?)

ComStar Primus Myndo Waterly

Verse 1:
There's Clanners off of Rasalhague,
Rasalhague, Rasalhague,
There's Clanners off of Rasalhague,
What about me?
(How does this affect ME!?!)

Kick your ass, kick your ass,
I'm short but I will kick your ass,
Kick your ass Clans!

That brings back memories! I remember trying to make a few verses for it back in the day, but I can't remember much now. I'll just offer this:

Engineering, Dr B. Banzai:

Ye cannae change the FASA Fiziks,
FASA Fiziks, FASA Fiziks,
Ye cannae change the FASA Fiziks,
FASA Fiziks, Prince!
