13th Royal French Demi-Brigade
« on: 20 March 2014, 03:32:55 »
In FM:SLDF, the 13th Royal French Demi-Brigade is described as consisting of two Mech regiments and two MechInf battalions (p224), which seems odd to me given that historically the term "demi-brigade" was just a replacement for "regiment" in the French revolutionary army and then used later for select units once the army reverted to the use of the term "regiment" for general use. So in the case of the 13th, going by the original French terminology we effectively have a regiment with regiments as sub-units.

Given that the word "brigade" appears in the name and that the 13th is very close in size to a SLDF brigade (as per p13) it appears possible that there was a case of mistaken identity regarding the size of a demi-brigade historically. Should the 13th perhaps have actually been two battalions each of Mechs and MechInf, thereby making it closer in size to a normal regiment, or is it deliberate that the SLDF do indeed treat demi-brigades as at least larger than regiments and even up to full-sized SLDF brigade strength?
