The path not taken, Commando COM-1RC
« on: 04 October 2019, 20:25:21 »
After reading Black_Knight's Paladin PAL-2X https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=67067.0, and mbear's Sun Cobra RAC testbed https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=67141.0, I feel compelled to give this rotary autocannon trend a whirl.

    Primary Factory: Coventry (New Avalon)

Targeting and Tracking System: TharHes Star Shark

Overview:
Supposedly, the Commando 1C was considered an extinct variant of the venerable
light BattleMech.  However, one example was found in a storage hanger at the
New Avalon Institute of Science.  This example of a 1C had been acquired by the
NAIS to test new reconnaissance tactics using direct fire support.  After a bad
fall during field maneuvers, the engine was so badly damaged that the techs
wrote it off as destroyed.  A misscommunication with the quartermaster corps
listed the entire 'Mech destroyed, leaving the 1C waiting to be rediscovered
during the FedCom Civil War.  Katrina loyalists found the aging Commando, gave
it an overhaul, and used it to great effect against the supporters of Victor.

Capabilities:
Technicians loyal to Katrina worked tirelessly to bring this old Lyran design
back to active status.  First, the destroyed standard fusion engine was removed
and replaced with an Omni 150 XL. Equipped with an experimental supercharger
the Commando, now designated 1RC, is capable of exceptional bursts of speed to
surprise and out maneuver its opponents.  Next the ancient autocannon was
removed and replaced with a modern rotary autocannon, capable of sending
incredible bursts of firepower towards the enemy.  The medium laser was removed
and replaced with an ER medium laser, increasing the range of the backup
weapon.  Finally, the armor was stripped in favor of ferro-fibrous, increasing
the armor effectiveness by almost the equivalent of a half ton of standard
armor.

Battle History:
The Commando 1RC was exceptional at scout hunting.  The 1RC would be hidden
along obvious routes for recon lances to travel, and then spring into action.
The rotary autocannon would be brought to bare against light 'Mechs and combat
vehicles to devastating effect.  Then the 1RC would engage its supercharger and
quickly sprint away to a set up new ambush.

Deployment:
The 1RC would fight on until the final battles on the world of New Avalon,
falling in battle to a lance of VTOLs sent to hunt the 1RC down and destroy it.

I like it!
Be the Loremaster:

Battletech transport rules take a very feline approach to moving troops in a combat zone: If they fits, they ships.

You bought the box set and are ready to expand your BT experience. Now what? (Thanks Sartis!)

Nice little skirmisher!
If at first you don't succeed, make it worth the repairman's time!
