Can you imagine the hilarity if they'd used an F-14...

Sort of . . . they were on the way out by then, Navy was using -14s and AF was using 15s & 16s.

I'm joking about a movie where an F-14 transforms into a giant robot; that won't cause any legal problems for anyone...

That said, wonder how many other transformers there's going to be, or if Bumblebee is going it alone.

Actually I wish they HAD used an F-14. Especially if they had a license to use the full likeness of said aircraft. Doubt HG could do much since the Veritech is likely a derivative and not a licensed copy.

It can't. Harmony Gold tried suing Hasbro over just that. The Judge said "Hahhaaaaa, no", and threw it out with prejudice.

Besides Bumblebee and Starscream, there is at least one other Decepticon who turns into a Plymouth GTX, but their identity is unknown. Finally, Barricade is said to be in the movie, based on comments by his Voice Actor. Whether he's the Plymouth or that's somebody else is unknown.

It also "might" be an A4 which is similar to the F4 in nose, air intake, & tail,  but I agree, it most closely resembles at F4 for the split second you can see it on screen.

I love that this is a prequel & shows both early/original BB & that the Autobots were here for quite some time trying to find the spark, or at least a recon mission was.

I don't know the girl but its cool that she's filling in the spot where the early Witwiki was supposed to be.

So, what are the odds that the climactic scene will use Stan Bush for the background music?

Final battle? Doubt it. But I'll lay good odds it will appear somewhere in the movie, such Easter Eggs are all the rage these days and it IS set in the 80s after all.

Am I the only one who quite liked the soundtrack of Transformers The Movie?

My money's on "Carly".

Carly who??  From my knowledge of Transformer lore for human interactions, besides the Witwickies, there was also GB Blackrock, and Josie Beller "Circuit breaker"..  I don't remember any Carly...

Well, in keeping with the Witwicky girls theme, she could be Jessie from the original Marvel comics, who was Buster Witwicky's girlfriend...

Edit: well nope, the Wikipedia page for the movie says the character's name is Charlie Watson

Interesting trivia. The original Starscream actor, Christopher Collins, died in 1994. It would appear that the current crop of Transformers movies has tried to keep the original voice actors for the series when possible.

In general, most Transformers shows, games, and movies have tried to bring back the original actors whenever possible.

Doubt it.  I've known several charlines over the years, and none of them shortened it to carly.

Yep.  Recycled his Cobra Commander voice for Screamer.  Latta...er, Collins(same guy, stage name) also did Sparkplug and Wheeljack IIRC.  From what I gathered, part of the reason you hardly hear him in season 3 was because he was canned briefly.  Wally Burr(I think) had to bail him out of jail once for jaywalking. :o

EDIT:  Also, if this video is to be believed, he was apparently the voice of Laserbeak and Buzzsaw, two characters traditionally given to Frank Welker.  And during a recording session, stood in for Peter Cullen.  :o

EDIT2:  Had to fix a broken link.

In Transformers Prime they had Steve Blum doing the voice of Starscream and really it was perfect for him.  Whilst very different to the original voice (way less shrill) he sounded sneaky and conniving. This was also backed up by a rather well done model for him.  He was based on an F-16 and was quite gangly, and when he was speaking or emoting he used a HUGE amount of body language that really backed up what he was saying as well as his personality.  Hell his wings were more akin to a cat or dog's ears, he spread them when trying to look imperious/threatning and they were pointed back behind him when scared or being cowardly (IE when Megs was around).

They had very good voice actors, Prime's actor was the original one, so was Megs, Ratchet's VA was Weyloon from DS9, Steve Blum did Starscream and i'm sure there's other notable folks.

And I really loved TFPrimes take on Starscream, he was a bully, a coward, and if he had an ounce of power over anyone he'd use it.  And when you give a bully a LOT of power...

Plus the Transformers Prime sound track was good.

Yea, TF Prime was a decent series.
Though some of the last season wasn't as good as the earlier fare. It did have a solid ending.

Aye and using John Noble aka Denathor as Unicron's voice worked out well :)

I have a few floating around.
Some of it isn't bad. The GI Joe/TF mini-series was fun in it's own way.

I liked the WW2 one, short, truncated and literally grim-dark as it is. WW2 Transformers is an angle that totally needs better follow-up.

Also like the Joe/TF comics by Devil's Due.

Sadly the history of TF comics is even more fragmented than Starscream

The WW2 one is almost TOO dark.  There are more than a few panels that I cannot tell what is going on because of the over-the-top gritty artwork.

Which ones!  I was living in the UK, so was getting their Transformers (often the same as the US ones, but also had some other sideline stories run)...  Kept getting them from issue 1, through to way into the 200s..

Couple issues.  Specifically the three that followed the aftermath of Sparkplug poisoning the Decepticon's fuel supply, the Autobots beating them, and Shockwave wiping them out, rebuilding the Decepticons, and taking over the leadership from Megatron.
