I'd upgrade your cargo one of the first things I do when I take a new ship

If I get too much resources I combine a bunch of them into more advanced components

I love the shipbuilding part of the game (far more than basebuilding).

So many awesome designs people are making and posting on Youtube. :D

I've made two C-class ships based on some specs there. Saw a new one yesterday which I can't afford yet (costs like 1 mill creds to build), but was like 9000 cargo, etc.

Me, in a particularly difficult space fracas between UC and Crimson Fleet: *DYING REPEATEDLY WITHOUT ANY GOOD PATH FORWARD*

Also me: *Realizing I leveled up recently, could use that to upgrade my ship type...*

Also me again: "...Hang in there, UC, I'll be right back!"

The difference in a fight between a good B-ship and a decent C-ship is astounding. Same fight I'd been struggling with all evening took a whole five minutes and no shield loss. I'll miss that old ship, but the new guy? That's an ugly bug wonderful craft.

Hulking, angular, slow, and armed with four massive particle cannons- there was never any question about whether or not to name it "Masakari".

Somewhere outside of Akila City I found a small farm, run by Spacers.  And what's this nearby?  Their ship!     Boarded it, killed the 3 in the cockpit, and had a new ship!  Looted it, sold it, was able to upgrade mine slightly (a slightly larger Cargo Hold), but immediately maxed out the storage space.     Don't yet have the Shipbuilding Skills OR credits to build a larger ship.   :undecided:  I keep spending my money on resources or ammo, some on "Aid" items, like food ingredients.  Can't find enough onions to make very many "Grandpa's Meatloaf"!

Yup been there I encountered the Ecliptic Battleship Camulus and was slaughtered even with a maxed out class C ship, it took me a lot of go's

If anyone is interested in what I class as one of the best types of ships in the game go to the Serpentis system it is frequented with by the best Vu'ruun and Spacer ships

I captured a Eulogy in my first playthrough it's got 3 or four decks and is huge inside, absolute beast in combat especially after you put Obliterator Particle Beams on it

Yeah levelling up that skill for ship command was a pain until a friend said use a ship gifted to you then it was simple

I just wish I could find better skilled crew outwith the main quest crews it's thin pickings for good crew

tip for the "ground pounder" mission at Altair II. the first keycard you get is for the stairs at the end of the hallway where you get the keycoard. those stairs (and some more gunfights) will lead you to the person who gives you the keycard which will open all the locked doors.

i thought the mission was bugged for a good while until i decided to google search what was going on.

For anyone JUST starting to play.  Your robot (Vasco) Apparently has the processor from an ancient "Trash 80" (Radio Shack TRS-80) computer!     The idiot OFTEN walks in from of me when I'm using the cutter to mine some minerals.  Then he whines about taking damage.     The only other Crewmember I've got is the "Hero Worship" guy, but I've yet to take him with me anywhere.  Somehow I think he'd do the same thing.

Found a space station (don't remember the name, but it had been a Zero-G Casino at some point), with a bunch of either Spacers or Pirates on board.  (One or the other, don't remember which.)  I'm having to float around, apparently using my boost pack.  Vasco is WALKING through Zero-G!

"Finished" the main game, as in just finished the first playthrough, and I must say (no spoilers), I understand now why they extol the NG+ as it is truly part of the game. Even the NPC companions have new lines of dialog for NG+.

I've done different faction quests per NG+ just to give them different feels

For me the big one is for MS to open up their Mechwarrior/Mechcommander library. There's some others that don't quite come to mind, but I think they're sitting on some properties that aren't just Age of Empires or Halo.

I kind of wish they had only released the most popular corner of starfield. I know its a canvas for both Bethesda and modders over the next several years but it gets very repetitive the further you go off the beaten path

I love the ship building, the base building is complicated but worth it

Ran into a small problem this morning that I'm not thrilled with.

Landed on a windswept rock to do some scans. Was irritated to find that my ship then promptly took off without me. Irritating, to say the least! Reloaded save, landed again, this time the ship stayed put. Good boy. Did my scans, killed some time while waiting for the day-job uploads to finish up. Took off to head to orbit and move on to the next planet in the system.

And came under fire from a nearby ship. Several particle cannons, that's adding up fast- better take out his engines and turn thing arou-

That's my ship.

That's literally the same ship I'm on right now. I'm standing on the bridge and looking at my own ship's twin bearing down on me- even same name, 'Masakari' (because quad particle guns and big blocky armor plates, so of COURSE it got that name). I was fighting myself- and lost badly, since he got the jump on me.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or did I hit one HELL of a Bethesda-glitch?

I love the ship building, the base building is complicated but worth it

I've been inside the EXACT SAME frozen "Abandoned Lab" at least THREE TIMES now.    I found it as a random building the 1st and 3rd times, went there specifically on a mission the 2nd.  Bunch of Spacers (or Pirates?), with a Quad robot near the exit each time.  But I've been Ranking Up my Security skill, so I've been able to find more loot each time.   :smilie_happy_thumbup:

And in other Random Weirdness News, a ship I'd "found" (and didn't have to kill any crew to take!) somehow renamed itself.     I encountered a Bounty Hunter on a planet, they told me to meet them somewhere to take out a Bounty and they'd split it with me.  I'd done this once before, so No Problem.  Along the way I see this ship.  I investigate, no crew, I take off with it and the Bounty mission gets "Updated".  I Guess I took the Bounty Hunter's ship?     Seems like it WAS called something like Railhaven (Rail "Something" anyway), but after encountering some Ecliptic Jerks on a mission to get the guy that calls you Friendo some Kraken ARs, the game froze. Had to restart, which lost ALL my progress on that mission.   :cussing:  Got back to the base (where I'd actually landed my ship, but saw something shiny, so I wandered off to check it out before going BACK to the "Abandoned Hangar" - which WASN'T!), and saw a ship sitting there, something like "Eclipse Combat Action 01".  ???     Weird, name, but whatever.  I go to it, I'm able to board it.  On board is the "Adoring Fan" (or "Annoying Fan"?), and I didn't have to re-register the damn thing.  Later tried talking to a Ship Tech, thinking I could rename it, but couldn't figure out How to do that.   :undecided:  I wanted to name it, "The Randy Capuchin"!

Funny that the name of the ship HAD been the name of a Motel my Mom's Dad had owned years before I was born!  The Rail Haven was in Sikeston, Missouri, though Wiki only mentions one in Springfield, MO.

You can rename it in the modding screen at a ship merchant

Do a flight check then the option is below

My hope for DLC/Mods (console) is they introduce new random buildings to encounter as you go through the game

Kore Kinetics firearms are HAGs.  They're magnetically accelerated projectiles that use multiple firing tubes with small-caliber munitions to achieve otherwise-unattainable rates of fire.  A bit ironic that the Mag* guns boast near-perfect accuracy, whereas HAGs cluster well up close and poorly downrange.

Found out by accident and frustration that you CAN'T kill yourself by damage from maxing out your CO2 gauge.     Yes, your health WILL drop down pretty low, to where the red in your Health Gauge is showing "Heal" (maybe "Healt"?), but it won't go away completely.  I've got a backpack that regenerates my health outside of combat, so that helps.  Sure, if your health is that low from you running while encumbered, and you get attacked, you could die from THAT damage.

Currently carrying over 8K of stuff!  I've seen meds that claim to heal hernias, yet I'm not sure HOW you can get a Hernia if I haven't gotten one by now.     At one time I was carrying over 9K of stuff!

In other news, Vasco is STILL an idiot!

I have tried repeatedly to give the game a chance, and I think I've just been ruined by quality storytelling and character development in games. Because to be brutally frank Starfield commits the greatest sin you can commit in gaming.

It is BORING.

People say it gets good around the 20 hour mark, and now at maybe 12 hours into it (and three weeks of not playing it) I cannot find anything that would make me want to do that extra 8 hours.

There is nothing to make me care about the characters, the story, and it feels like one of those "playground" games that makes Far Cry 6 look substansive.

And I SHOULD like the game. The space combat feels a lot like Freelancer (a game I spent years creating mods for), I usually like CRPG's... but.

You know, it FEELS like it was supposed to be a MMO and then was back-tracked on halfway through development. Sure, it has a very very large "world", but there's nothing in it. Even the core planet I can never remember the name of is this vast expanse -- like the hub on the Citadel scaled up 200x -- but the stores and places to interact are farther apart than walking from Helgen to Riverwood, To the point they needed to add a transit system to a single map... But there's little to nothing of interest or value to fill that space.

The writing and characters are equally bad. The dead stares on every character are ME:Andromeda levels of "my face is tired" and generally feels like they just ripped off models and design from "The Outer Worlds". The voice actors do a competent enough job, but it's like they were handed scripts written by Tommy Wiseau.

It just failed to engage me as a player.

I dunno, maybe Fallen Order, Days Gone, and HZD spoiled me as a player who's more interested in an engaging singleplayer experience where they tell me a story. Much less take the time to make me care about the characters.

I mean seriously, in Days Gone when Addy asks me to get her a liston knife, I lost it. I knew what that was for... No, Oh no. No no no, you're not taking...

Simply put -- for me at least -- Starfield is not a good game. It seems technically competent, but it breaks no new ground and feels like the effort was put everywhere except making you care.

And the action isn't fast paced enough for Carmack / Romero levels of "Story? Games don't need a story!" where you can get away with Michael Bay levels of vapidity.

In that way I guess you could also say it's poorly paced.

Death will take those who fight alone.
But united we can break a fate once set in stone.
