Any way to remove the "Last edit" tags?
« on: 10 October 2019, 00:05:06 »
I don't like the tags that appear at the bottom of a post after it's been edited. They clutter up the feed and just look bad, which is particularly irritating if all that was needed in the first place was a minor correction.

Is there any way they can be removed, either on a one-off or permanent basis?

See below for an example of what I'm talking about.

Last edit tags are a standard part of most BB configurations, as they avoid 'bait-and-switch' posts, as you can see whether the original post was edited after a comment was posted.

I know these are probably less likely in a BT forum than a politics forum, but an analogy would be if someone were to post "The Shadow Hawk is the worst mech ever.", and then add the word "not" after getting a bunch of agreeing comments.

I vote to keep them, as they don't take up much space compared to the body of the post in any case.
"That's Lieutenant Faceplant to you, Corporal!"

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

"Hmm, I wonder if I can turn this into a MM map."

first off, editing tags are a standard element of most forum software, it might not even be possible to do so.

secondly, they are important for thread consistency, e.g., it is important to show that a post was edited after it was quoted for example to explain where the difference originates.
So, I don't think removing them would be a good idea, even if possible.

edit: Simon was faster. ;)

possible might be a visual shift to right-aligned to put it to the side where "report" etc resides.

Be quick with your edit. If you do it before anyone views the post, no tag appears.

I only win initiative rolls when not actually in battle ... [grin]

Well, my not let us have the ability to delete our own posts? That way something that came out too messy could just be replaced later with the correct version. It seems that plenty of other BBs accommodate this.

I think you also have to do it within the minute you originally posted.  At least, that seems to be my experience...

GODS NO. The ability to post the vilest crap imaginable, wait just long enough for someone to have read it, and then delete it before you get banned? We'd have to preemptively ban half the forum to have any hope of scaring the other half into line.

The solution is clear: Proofread your posts before hitting the button.

Or just edit your post and stop worrying about the edit tag.

Yeah, but the whole point of this post was that I'm worrying about it. Make of that what you will. And yes, I do actually proofread. ;) Then I go back, and tinker, let it sit, go back and tinker again, sometimes months later...

Maybe I'm used to small and peaceful forums, but if half the userbase here is ready to throw nukes at each other then what do I know. But it still looks cluttery. Just my opinion. PEACE OUT
