There was an ad for Pharaoh Beer.

I wept because I would never again see something that beautiful.

Think it was fairly intentional, the whole start with the flaming gas flares not to mention the Tina with Jump Jet Juice motion ad kinda cemented it.

I saw the Earthwerks logo, a logo for "Piranha House of Art", and some kind of casino with the Malthus name on it and 2d6.  I love the Pharaoh Beer reference!

And it's released with this patch

Mini-map preview

And a warning from the patch notes:
Quote
The Solaris City map is a processor intensive map and due to this, it is one of the slowest maps we have created. That being said, we are putting this map on high priority in terms of monitoring its performance on the live servers and will be addressing everything we can as quickly as we can. Due to the complexity of urban/city environments and the extensive amount of unique models required to populate it without it looking extremely repetitive, some creative/technical liberties were needed to allow this map to be built in the current version of CryEngine. As stated, we will be monitoring performance metrics intensively and will include updates to the map with every patch/hotfix that goes out until we hit a point of optimization where improvements will no longer be noticeable. While far from unplayable, it's not performing at a consistent level of acceptable norms. Min Spec players may have a harder time with this map than others. The biggest take away from this statement is, please be aware, we are monitoring and acting upon this map as a top priority item.

People able to patch faster than me/not a work are reporting very low frame rates...

Well, just did a Training grounds for it, I'm running around 50+ Frames, not sure how that'll play out with more folks running around.

Maps brutal one time i did it.  If your not careful, you'd get in tight corn and you'd get hosed down by multiple enemy fire with little way back off.

The Rail tracks did look like their nasty too if you walk on top, you can be exposed to everyone shooting at you.

I'm loving the map, no loss in FPS for my system, and yes, the ease with which one can get 'cornered' is what City Fighting should be like!

The Rail tracks did look like their nasty too if you walk on top, you can be exposed to everyone shooting at you.
You have to use the buildings for cover; in many places the angles are such that mechs down below have to move into certain more open positions to even just fire at you.

Saw a light medium - Shadowcat i think - today that poised up on the rail in just the right position, unlocked his arms and started firing down at the cluster of assaults bunched down below with a couple HMGs and a single small laser. He killed two or three before the last one could even break out into a position where he could fire up.

Maps brutal one time i did it.
As a city map it's pretty favourable for the heavy ballistics bruisers, although i think that will even out a bit once people learn to use the quirks (such as the rails above).

First match i played on it the last ones standing were a pair of Kodiaks at least one of which ran twin LBX AC/20 and an Atlas with a similar outfit. Easy long-range mid-priority targets on most other maps. And just what i'd expect on a city map.

Last match i played on was the one above, where in the end the enemy assaults within the city were picked off by that Shadowcat exploiting his position on the rails and a single MadCat MkII on the ground while a Uziel and Commando guarded the base outside town and picked off one or two mediums themselves.

The map will remain useless for us artillery mechs of course, there just aren't any angles for us to use so far that i've seen. And i've looked over a couple, including the rails. You'd pretty much need the meat shields to draw em out of the buildings into a handful of the areas on the edges applying an amount of tactics rarely found in Quick Play. About the worst map in that regard.

Spending my free time with HBS Battletech these days. MWO was my only love for about two years, but even though I’m a whale, I just can’t bring myself to play it lately. After a good long break, I’m sure I’ll come back.

I wonder where the stadiums are in comparison to downtown Solaris.  I've read the books, i know the map of the rpg which is HUGE, but makes me wonder where they could be. No doubt this isn't super accurate. Is the Shield Hall somewhere out there?

I know it won't be practical, but i wish the fabled Mech Tunnels were hidden this map. Be nice tactical surprise to pop up where people least expect it.  The overhead rail lines are nice twist but they make you stand out like sore thumb.

I've been trying get the event done, i've been finding some people aren't as into the city.

I'm still semi-new at the game, so i don't know how to unlock my mech's arms to get weapons to aim down more. I'm such a noob.  ;D

By default left shift is your arm lock/unlock button. Under Game in your Settings first check box Arm Lock - if its ticked holding left shift unlocks your arms from your torso, where if you have it unticked your arms are free and holding left-shift locks them with your torso weapons.

Thanks for the advice, I been still fumbling to remember it when I'm frantically trying stop guys killing my Mech off.

I still find it freaky with Mutant Speed freak UrbanMech dancing around below me killing me with it's machine guns and insane (for Urbie) speed.

Myself, I HATE the map.  Virtually NO line of sight anywhere.  ALL super short ranged....even brawlers have a difficult time.  The map is more luck of survival than anything else.  Super tight alley ways and streets.  If you have a Piranha or Commando or the like, armed right, you will do much damage.  But you will also die quickly when you turn the corner and run smack into a big boy with big guns and have nowhere to go.

I sometimes i refer the city as Backstab City myself, with the two monarail crossroads/hubs as killzones.  ;D

last night it was pretty bad for me (i get play 2 hours a night because my job and irl)

Its bad when it takes me 4 minutes waiting for the game load and get players assembled, then launching then murdered in less than 2 minutes in game.

My builds are not that bad, but its so hard last long sinces sometimes hard get guy on my usual team show up back each other up.

The killzones or better Shooting Galleries where the Monorail tracks cross cross just is doesn't offer alot protection. No one going want cross thoses.
It's turn corn and slug it out or have horrible angles to shoot from top of tracks.

Unless it's domination, I've found it's best for the whole team to stay out of the middle kill zone.

Well, just did a Training grounds for it, I'm running around 50+ Frames, not sure how that'll play out with more folks running around.

Generally speaking, the group I game with generally has about a 50% FPS drop or more at the beginning of the match and will go up just enough to play.....but it gets choppy at times.  None of us like the map.
