So in other news. I had my first day of work today, I work Saturday night-Thursday morning. It will be very difficult for me to get out the next couple weeks anyway. I will talk to my boss about moving it around once I have some more time in. Maybe it’ll give me the desire to paint, who knows.

Congrats indeed!  I'm probably looking at a full schedule until sometime in November anyway, so we've got plenty of time to try to put something together.

Just joined the game, still working through the rules and diving into the lore. I'm located on the peninsula, anyone play locally?

The majority of us seem to be located a bit further north.

I’m at the tail end of what is widely acceptable as being called the east bay.

If you can make the trip up we have had one gathering in Brentwood, and it was successful, if small, by everyone’s reckoning. We will probably go again sometime next month. We might try to switch up locations due to all of us being spread out.

That being said I saw on Facebook GameKastle Santa Clara had a painting contest, and someone submitted a Battlemaster mech as their entry.

So for those of you who have been held in suspense about my work schedule I am now on days Monday-Friday for about a month. So if we wanted to do something early November I should be free for that as well.

Very nice!  I'll take a look at the family calendar tonight and see if I can figure out a weekend that would work.

So games of Brentwood has gotten in their Warhammer gaming tables, so we have access to 3d terrain on those boards. Games of Antioch (under the same ownership umbrella) also has Warhammer tables/terrain.

If you guys wanted to plan another big day I should be free until the second week of November. After that my schedule might change

Don't know if this works for your schedule, but I was just looking at two family trips out of town I'm taking in November.  Would Sunday, November 14 work for you?  I'm out of town on the first and third weekends (4th weekend is Thanksgiving).

It would be really fun to get to use the 3d terrain for the Warhammer tables!

We have a Sunday coming up. And I think some South Bay guys have gotten some garage games in, set up via discord.

I am hoping to make a Saturday a regular thing tho, it generally is best most of the time.

Had a good game at 500 PV. I’ll try and figure out pictures later.

Got to test out the stores 3D table/terrain. Most of it was 40k scale so we ended up not using any buildings which worked out good enough. No good hills were available so we used some boxes. Map was set up with a set of woods and hill on each of our sides, diagonal from each other. There was also a pond/stream that went through a forest directly in the middle of our map.

I played a short clan Binary (Executioner TC, Mad Dog Mk III B, Timber Wolf C, Viper B, Grendel T, Summoner HH, Stormcrow P, Ice Ferret Prime, Adder Prime) vs a Lyran Compmay (2 Commandos, Wolfhound, Hatchetman, Wolverine, Griffin, Archer, Thunderbolt, Banshee, Battlemaster, Atlas III, Zeus). Both forces were nominally dark age era.

Got off to a good start for me, about turn 3 I was able to take out two commandos and the wolfhound, in exchange for a few damage on the Stormcrow. I was also able to savage the Wolverine before he escaped around a hill for a turn. I was able to stay at range for a while and in the woods that allowed my superior skills to do some work. My right flank was unable to do much but distract the assault lance.

I was able to hold onto the pond and used it to put a couple overheat mechs into the water. I was able to flank with the viper and get some back shots. I ended up taking down the damaged Wolverine and the thunderbolt. Once the Lyrans were able to close the range down the dice swung as well.

I missed a couple hefty overheats and my right flank collapsed. The last turn saw my shutdown Grendel get demolished, my Mad Dog whiffing on fives to finish off the Zeus, while the Lyrans were able to hit he Mad Dog on 8s finishing off the short Binary entirely. Had he not been hit then he would have been able to escape in the end.

I was hot early and cooled off, MarauderD was the opposite. My Thor only hit once the entire game, the turn it died. I had really hoped to use its Heat special to slow down the assault lance. I can’t really think of any large tactical errors on either side. Although I probably should not have kept a whole third of my force in the middle pond area where they could be focused by everyone, although they did fairly well from there. A couple key misses forced targeting changes on my part which should have resulted in dead mechs or crit, but resulted In nothing more than scratches.

Ended up with my short Binary being totally wiped out against a nearly dead Zeus, a beat up but thriving Banshee, the Atlas III, the Archer, and the Griffin.

Had a good time despite both our dice betraying us at different times.

It was a fun match.  500 points gave us some more units to play with, which I enjoyed.  The match seemed very ones sided for the first half, as I lost my entire light lance in exchange for about two goal damage on his Stormcrow.  For the next 3 turns, it really seemed like the match would be a total rout.

And then, like a light switch, it was like the dice gods jumped out of his hands and in to mine.  He needed 6s or 7s to finish a Banshee or Zeus and just couldn’t get it.  I needed 8s or 9s and seemingly couldn’t miss.  It was a pretty shocking development.

Overall, Kerfuffin did a good job of using the woods and water in the beginning of the match.  I also think I was overly aggressive and committed to much to taking his Adder and Stormcrow.

Long story short, it was a super fun game with huge swings between turn 2-3 and turns 7-8!

It was right about the time the dice switched I was thinking to myself “good thing we aren’t playing for challenge coins (since you made that topic up in general about them) cause I’d feel bad taking your coin this way.” And then I thought “I better not say that so I don’t sound like a dick and have the dice gods betray me”. Turns out thinking it was enough.  :D

Good point.  Although if you had asked me at turn 4-5 who I thought would win, I would honestly say with 90% certainty it would be you.

I also noticed a weak point in my forces.  I spent 70!!! points on a skill 3 Atlas, with a ton of armor, AECM, and a shield.

You didn't shoot at it.  Pretty funny stuff.  ;D

Yeah the Atlas wasn’t as overly scary as some of the other mechs. (Well I though, looking at the stats it’s just as brutal as any of the other assaults you had). Plus my whole plan for disrupting your assaults via the Summoners Heat effect went out the window when he whiffed twice in a row. I think had a I kept the mad dog on that flank I could have applied more pressure, kinda hard to fight an assault lance with just a Timber Wolf and Summoner.

Deployment/walking on to the board. Lots of sprinting.

My Deployment

Turn Two: I was able to force the wolverine to hide by stripping the armor but relatively ineffective shooting by both sides. I started a 3 turn run of imitative wins here which helped immensely.
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/895858899914194995/909580229293539389/IMG_5403.jpg

Turn 3/4 (idr): was able to use my initiative win and fast units to get some good positions. Took out two commandos by the pool of water and the Hatchetman. Took a bit more damage here.

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/895858899914194995/909580540053684255/IMG_5405.jpg

Maybe turn 7ish. This is where it turned. I had finished up the Wolfhound and Wolverine. I lost three mechs this turn. Two of my three skill 2 guys. Through some maneuvering later I took out the Thunderbolt but couldn’t finish off anything else.

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/895858899914194995/909580873383428176/IMG_5408.jpg

Second to last turn: mad dog retreated backwards. Grendel is shut down in the woods due to missing successive overheat 2s at the banshee.  He would die the next turn as he waited to power back up. Mad Dog fell back and failed to make his parting shot count against the Zeus. Finished up 9 dead ghost bear mechs to 7 Lyran dead.

Hello! I used to play way back in the 90s as a kid and recently discovered that BattleTech has been having a renaissance as of late. I found some of my old stuff and also got one of the new box sets. Been looking for some people to play other than my kids and found this post. I live in Tracy and am often around at the local friendly game store Blackrowan Games. I might also be able to travel to play depending on when and where. I look forward to getting some games in again.

I think Vedgy is out that way as well. We have been meeting in Brentwood the last (only) two times as it’s kinda central as well as has a gaming location.
I know MarauderD mentioned he was full up with family and stuff until after the holidays.

But I would be willing to make a trip out that way on a weekend if it works out.

We have the discord and Facebook groups too. Which is most of the same people as here.
I try to coordinate posting everywhere.

The Facebook is Bay Area BattleTech Brethren. You should be able to find it searching. Idk how to link it with just my phone.
