Coming soon new IWM webstore
« on: 04 November 2020, 08:56:51 »
This month IWM will be switching to the new online store that is part of the Frontend. I will be posting the date soon, we are finishing up training on the new backend for IWM personal who pull and ship orders.

As I mentioned you will need to register a new user account for the new store. Customers with Gift Voucher credit will have it added to there new accounts after you contact me when your account is registered. More details about this and for CDT Agents will be on the page after initial login on the new store.

So if we've been using the shopping cart as a wishlist we should screenshot now, I take it?

Glad to hear it -- but I meant, "Are the contents of our old shopping carts going to carry over?" (Presuming not, I have taken a screenshot of the old one so I can turn it into a wish list later.)

Given that we'll have to make new accounts I'd say that it's unlikely that cart contents will carry over.

The IWM webstore just sent me an invoice from 15 years ago.  Maybe it knows what is about to happen to it, and this is its last act of defiance. xp

I just tried to set up an account, but selecting "United States of America" as my country just gives me the option for US Minor Outlying Islands.

By default the Country is set to United States of America, and then below that you select the state. If you select US Minor Outlying Islands there will be different options in the drop down below it.

When I went there, the Country field was defaulted to United States of America, but the State field only had the outlying islands. Manually changing country to something else, then back to USA populated the States field options correctly.

Alright, this new web store and I are not off to a great start.

Tried to create a new login.  State field goofed up, as described by other.  Failed to make a new password four times, because my typical rubrics apparently do not generate a password that the site thinks is appropriate.  Eventually had a strong password randomly generated for me, and stored it for safekeeping....because I'll sure as hell never be able to remember it.

The new interface is clunky, with a ton of wasted space due to its graphical presentation.  And...is there NO search function?  At all?  So if I'm looking for something particular, I need to know what category it's in, and then use my browser page search function?  Seems not great.

I'll keep trudging along, but not making a great first impression here.

I'm on mobile, Chrome on Android.

The search had a issue and it is working now, it is above the shopping cart on the side. It will display at the bottom in mobile browsers.

I also added a Search link to the main menu.

Okay, I gave it a look over.  It wasn't immediately obvious, but I figured out to select "Product" from the "Search Only" options and a search for "Wolverine" brought up all the Wolverine models.  However a similar search for "Griffin" doesn't seem to find the new -1N model that's in the New Releases.

Fixed, I forgot to fix the spelling. I uploaded it wrong to old store and new store when I added it.

I plan to do more with search, but had to get the store open finally.

I did create Filters for BT, when viewing a category with products in it, the filter shows up at the top.

So, because this is a new online store, does that mean my previous sign-in credentials is obsolete?

This is a minor issue, but just so you are aware of it Speck:

I registered a new account (and I saw the same country/state field issue as MoneyLovinOgre4Hire and CranstonSnord reported). When got the confirmation email and clicked the link to activate my account I was taken to a page that said my account was activated. (This is all good.)

The issue is that when I clicked the link to take me to the login page from the "account activated" page, I got an error saying that I lacked permission for some resource.

edit:
Actually, maybe it logged me in? I see a logout link at the top of the screen, but when I clock on "my account" it says that returning customers are required to register. When I clicked logout, I seem to be unable to log back in using my new credentials. I'll experiment more before I declare an actual problem)

I will double check things on the backend. When you are logged in you will see the logout link at the top.

I think that the search results could be more useful (see attached)

A thumbnail would be awesome.

I am not sure what the 'Created" date provides to the customer but you could probably remove it especially since it doesn't appear to follow the defaul "Newest First" ordering that the search engine has

Is "Supplied unassembled and unpainted." necessary for the search results?

I am working on an option for better search results, should have movement on it early next week once I get Mikes okay. I had hoped the new release of the shopping cart software would have provided a better option and they had one for "Smart Search", except the SKU field was not included as searchable. So I went back to the normal search plugin, since you could search SKU. The search results page is powered by the main CMS. I did remove the create date.

I am working on an improved search option tonight. Also had to update checkout workflow due to an odd issue with Paypal Express.

If you see a missing product, please let me know. I thought I had already checked and created any items that came out after my initial product import to the new store.

New search is available, is located at the top of the screen near the IWM logo. On mobile it is also there as well.

It will display search results like the product page or you can select a category and hit search.

I apologize to anyone who could not access the battletech category and three other ones over night. I have fixed the issue, I was creating and testing adding links to the main product categories to under Online store and did not realize when I set the permissions on that link it affect the viewing of the category from the main listing. Still getting the hang of how the permissions work across everything.

The first four main categories are on the list, I will get adding the other today.

If you're like me, make sure you use your user name and not your email address when you try to log back in. I got stuck on that for a good half hour, even though the system was working properly, and telling me what to do. I just didn't make the connection.

No, I checked that.  I think it had something to do with the other issues that Speck mentioned last night since it was working this morning.

I added another way to find Product categories to the new store, when you hover over Online Store addition options appear below for the top level Categories. Tomorrow I am going to add the initial set of categories for Battletech to its spot.

The new search option, will change the category selected depending on what category you are viewing.

Still getting used to the new store. It isn't difficult to navigate, but when clicking on menus it seems to sometimes take me to the wrong category -- eg. an adjacent button.

Otherwise it looks clean and runs much faster. Also just managed to sneak in with the new store coupon. Not that I needed the miniatures, but... gotta catch 'em all?

What device were you using to look at the website?

I'm using Chrome on my PC. I included a screen grab so you can see what I'm talking about it. The button height for the lower rows seems much higher than you would think.

Merkava Tank (20-5027) is misspelled (Merkeva)
makes it difficult to search ...  :)

I will see about adding some separation between rows.

If you're like me, make sure you use your user name and not your email address when you try to log back in. I got stuck on that for a good half hour, even though the system was working properly, and telling me what to do. I just didn't make the connection.

That does not work for me. I still get this when I try to login:
The webmaster has forbidden your access to this site  [this is on a blank white page]

Same user name and email as my account here.
I tried the contact us thing and it's still forked.
So I'm mentioning it here.

EDIT: to add that this wasn't happening until I created an account for the RalParthaLegacy site.
Which I can log onto without a problem.

EDIT2: I just tried to reset my Iron Wind password, but it failed as I did not submit the correct username.
Which is a problem as I did not have a username.
Going to try to reregister.

EDIT: Now I'm a hacker. And I apparently DID have a username.

I have to get dressed for work. I won't be able to do anything else until after 8 or 9PM.

Hey Speck!  I found another spelling/syntax search irregularity you might want to iron out.

There are four (normal-size) sculpts of the Mad Cat Mk II, but two of them are named "Mad Cat Mk II" and two of them are named "Mad Cat MkII" (with no space after the "Mk").  It makes searches only turn up one or the other, depending on how you typed it.

(There's also a difference between "MK II" and "Mk II" (k lower case), but the search engine doesn't seem to care about caps.)

Fixed, Mk II, just like Master Unit List has it.
