I only played with the Bane 1 once but it was a LOLz filled game as the Kraken kept chipping away at the other Assaults armor

The Kraken is the least fun design in CBT to play with, simply because it takes approximately a year off of your life to roll all of those shots. That being said though, the Kraken is extremely good in most configs at doing one thing.... more dakka. Massed Ultra AC/2s are actually fairly effective as a sniping platform from a mapsheet away.

Oh, if we're going to discuss that beast, someone needs to get JadeHellbringer in here to share his (mis)adventure with that variant.

Would replacing the missile racks with a Targeting Computer make it even better? (Of course I don't know if this is even possible, but still.)

It might help but it won't work.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks!

The math, in case anyone's interested:

4 Ultra/5s at 8 tons each, 32 tons total
2 ER PPCs at 6 tons each, 12 tons total
44 tons of TC'd weapons

Therefore you need an 9 ton/crit Clan targeting computer (or 11 ton/crit IS targeting computer, which is even worse).  LRM 15s give the tonnage for a Clan computer but not the crits - only 6 crits between the launchers and ammo.

EDIT: Fixed the tonnage, making the whole mess worse.

Yo. ;)

Fired ten cannons at advancing Summoner. Jammed seven of ten guns- including all five in the right arm- on first turn of firing. Was eaten alive by said Summoner in short order. Blue dice melted via pocket-torch in parking lot of Merlyn's Games in Spokane, WA that evening in a spate of fury, have not owned blue dice since.

Now then- the Jupiter 3. I'm biased, having quietly slipped in as the unique pilot for the Mech, but I love it. That's a lot of ballistic 'oomph' to be throwing around at targets, for low heat. HAGs aren't great against heavily armored targets, having little ability to concentrate damage to break through the armor quickly- but the Ultra-10s give it the ability to start punching holes in armor, followed by the HAGs and their crit-seeking abilities. It really works out surprisingly well, all things considered- though the claim of Pryde bringing down a full Star of Protomechs in record time in it seems unlikely, I admit ;)

But Brian Pryde has great luck with games of chance. How can it be?

 O:-)

Eventually, ammo bins run dry ;)

Though with the Jupiter's ridiculously over-sized feet, I guess there are options that don't involve massive cannons, no? Perhaps that's an even more amusing solution to the Protomech swarm ;)
