How often do you load out SRMs/Inferno Arrow IVs/Inferno bombs/etc for your units in your average pick-up 4K-20K BV game?

Hardly ever. Mostly because I rarely mess with alternate munitions. Rarely ever play, and when I do it's usually as simple a game as possible.

When I am vehicle / infantry hunting and have multiple tons of ammo.

Loved the dual srm6 javelin for that role.

Nearly always.  Even if an SRM has only one ton of ammo I'll often put infernos in that anyway.  Because no battle has truly started until everything is on fire and I've lost my hat.

Almost never, because the last time I did so, I killed all the other team's BA and set most of the map on fire so the GM doesn't let me use Infernos anymore.

It really wasn't my fault, I mean, they took cover behind ammunition crates.

Definitely if I expect infantry or TSM, or there are two tons of SRM ammo on a particular unit.

For actual pick-up games, seldom because they're usually mech-only.

For campaign games, most of the time as they usually incorporate combined arms (infantry and vehicles) and TSM.

I'm probably pushing the 25% range.  In a 'Mech only engagement in the 3025 era, they're potentially useful for overheating enemy 'Mechs and starting fires in the opposing cover.  I'll usually take them if I have the right unit in the group that can make good use of them.  In a 3025 combined arms scenario, they're especially devastating, and a much higher priority.  In a 3050+ 'Mech-heavy scenario, the double heat sinks tend to make them a bit underwhelming, and I rarely use them in that case.

My favorite platforms are the venerable "Thud" with the SRM-2 rack, or a Scimitar with the AC/5 and SRMs.  Normally, I'll pair the Scimitar with a couple of Saracens sporting LRMs and regular SRMs, so the Scimitar gives me "aimed shot" direct fire capability and a bit of warm and friendly Inferno love to share.

I guess about a third of the time.
That said if I am designing a custom mech and have included SRMs or MMLs I tend to make sure I can bring infernos unless I am going to over heat like crazy.
That said I have a Kintaro custom that has infernos and TSM.
That said that pilot is a religious fanatic who is a bit off his rocker.

How is using infernos being a jerk? I can see setting fires being annoying because of all the hassle, but if so then get rid of starting fires....

I would have infernos all the time but rules of engagement does prohibit there use in either urban or dry rural areas .  So I put down half the time

Yep, to quote an anime character "BURNING LOVE!" (and not the kind you see your doctor about :P)  If I've got an SRM rack then it's probably got infernos in it.  Later eras of play there's a chance it might have Tandem-Charges in it.  But otherwise far as I'm concerned anything within 9 hexes I think I should shoot at would look a lot better on fire.

If you expect TSM, get yourself a vehicle flamer with coolant ammo--nothing is as satisfying as an opponent getting almost within TSM melee range, only to get hosed down and have their heat drop below the 9-point threshold  >:D

I love infernos against vehicles or infantry, but I have not really had much results against mechs, as most of the people I play against guard their heat levels too carefully for that to really hurt much (except my wife, except she's 1) a fairly inexperienced player I don't want to scare off, and 2) my wife  :P )

I know flamers and flame ammo type weapons deal about 3D6 damage to infantry, do they simply auto kill vehicles?

No, flamers inflict the same damage to vehicles they inflict to mechs.

Anyone think its a bit odd that the Firestarter of all mechs doesn't mount an SRM rack of some sort so it can launch infernos?

Nah, the point of the Firestarter is to start fires all day long without a single worry about enemy fire igniting your napalm while still inside your mech.

Especially when some uber-ambitious Alpha Striker goes all out on his heat and THEN suddenly remembers what my Infernos could do to him... >:D
