Overview:
Following from the success of Lockheed/CBM's successful Warrior
H-7 attack helicopter, Defiance Industries decided to compete for
a share of the market. The Hund was designed quickly, something
that shows in the decision to adopt the same electronics suite as
the Warror, and a far more expensive unit. However, it has also
proved far more forgiving of commanders who forget the fragile
nature of a helicopter, with an excellent record for crew safety
that has ensured a modest number of purchases from the LCAF.
Capabilities:
The Hund is intended as a high performance machine specialising
in screening the movements of ground forces by hunting down scouts
and harassing forces. It has also had some success as a tank
hunter. The key to this is the fusion reactor at the heart of the
aircraft. While a significant contributor to the price tag and
tonnage of the helicopter, it allows a top speed of over 160km/h
while still carrying as much armour as a Panther light battlemech.
This has contributed to its nickname 'the Flying Panther' by
troops on in the Tamar Theater.
For offense, the Hund utilises the respected Parti-Kill particle
cannon, leaving it with unmatched punch in the air and no
vulnerable ammunition bins. Usually operating at a cruising speed
of over 100km/h, the Hund can orbit an enemy at long range where
only a limited number of weapons can reach it, inflicting
damage that few light units can shrug off. Usually only dedicated
anti-aircraft platforms act as a deterrent.
Deployment:
Thus far sold only to the LCAF, the Hund fills a ground attack
role in regiments along both the League and Combine borders. A
few have fallen into the hands of these states although only the
DCMS has placed them in service as Marik commanders are more prone
to remove the valuable PPC for use by their battlemechs.
