The MAD-5A was, in universe, not the planned loadout. The original TR entry specifically mentions the oddity of the CASE and ammo being in opposite torsos and hinting at a real WD version and suggesting that the 5A was a gimped version allowed to be sold outside the Wolf’s Dragoons.
Much later, in real world time, the MAD-5B was published as that long hinted at variant.
