Dragonslayers vs 2nd Ghost
« on: 27 August 2012, 20:58:04 »
Sitrep: May 3039. The Dragonslayers patrolling outside of the port city of Gaines during the invasion on Altais.
Mission: The Dragonslayers were looking to beat up on the 2nd Ghost.

We had 2 new players take part and 1 person who played once around 5 years ago. We all had fun while the veteran players took command.
The game was a few turns long as we taught the newbies how to move and shoot.

The units had the following forces (gunnery is first number then the piloting):

Forces:
Dragonslayers:                                                                                                       2nd Ghost:
Warhammer   WHM-6R      3   3                                                                              Crockett   CRK-5003-0     3    3
Thunderbolt   TDR-5S       3   4                                                                              Grand Dragon  DRG-1G      4    4
Zeus  ZEU-6S                   4   4                                                                               Grasshopper  GHR-5H       4    5
Crusader   CRD-3R           4   4                                                                              Quickdraw  QKD-4G           4    5

Shadow Hawk  SHD-2H    4    4                                                                              Crab  CRB-20                     4    4
Griffin  GRF-1S                  3    4                                                                              Wolverine  WVR-6R            4    4
Centurion   CN9-AL          4    5                                                                              Phoenix Hawk   PHX-1K     4    4
Hatchetman   HCT-3F      3    3                                                                              Assassin  ASN-21             4    4

Locust   LCT-1S               3    4                                                                              Panther  PNT-9R                 3    4
Firestarter   FS9-H           4    4                                                                              Jenner  JR7-D                      4    4
Commando   COM-2D      4    4                                                                              Hussar HSR-300-D            4    5
Stinger  STG-3G               4    3                                                                              Spider  SDR-5K                   4    4

A panoramic view of the start of the battle.

After a few turns the Spider and Assassin close.

The next turn the Spider gets behind the Centurion and the Jenner provides support.

The Jenner fell after losing his right arm and the Commando fell after suffering a gyro hit.

A little later the 2 companies close and start to lay on the hurt.

A wider view of the battle. The Dragonslayer command lance fires on the Grasshopper.
The 2nd Ghost was combining fire on the Thunderbolt but missed.

The Dragonslayer command lance forms a firing line against the Grasshopper. The Wolverine tries to distract the firing line.
[

The Wolverine jumps behind the Warhammer hoping to cripple it. The rest of the command lance decides to punish the impertinent Wolverine.

The game ended after this turn, The Wolverine survived with severe damage to his legs and scattered damage to his upper torso.

Elsewhere the Hatchetman attempted a DFA on the Quickdraw but was destroyed by the rear-mounted lasers on the Quickdraw.
The Dragonslayer Stinger performed a successful DFA on the Phoenix Hawk and did all his damage to the head. The Phoenix Hawk remained conscious and standing while the Stinger fell.

The battle was still up in the air when we had to call it.

The Dragonslayers won this engagement by destroying the Panther and Jenner but lost the Commando and Hatchetman.
The Combine Spider had severe damage to his internal structure and would have died from any hit on his right side.

I hope you've learned your lesson about DFA.

While they look awesome.

They are normally best left on Solaris to the professional.

They never end well.

Althou they are a great way to hook new players into the game. :)

We tried to talk the players out of but the Hatchetman was missing most of his weapons and had the rear shot on the Quickdraw.
The Stinger had the better pilot and wanted to try it.

I have to say, I never thought much of rear mounted weapons until I took out that flying Hatchetman with the Quickdraw's rear lasers.

We were at least able to take out one of the Warhammer's PPCs, but the fallen Grasshopper of mine might have been in trouble. Either way, that Warhammer would have been toast!

I'd like to point out that we swapped the Centurion and Stinger
About the DFA, yeah, it was an act of desperation, plus for laughs, basically, we knew it was the last turn, so nothing to lose, basically.
