Meet: "The Wrecking Crew"
« on: 03 June 2020, 01:11:01 »
Here is a WIP pic of the first batch of my new periphery merc unit (and totally not part time pirates... ), the "Wrecking Crew", aka "O'Reilly's O'Wreckers"... commanded by Colonel Francis "Smasher" O'Reilly.
There was supposed to be hazard stripes.... I hate painting stripes...so now it's just red plates... I know, I suck....  ;D
I still have lots of details to finish like the second coat of blue for the glass, the dark gunmetal for the weapons, the spots of rust, and the final wash. But I'm happy with the level of weathering so far; not too overstated but still looking like mechs one step away from a salvage yard!!

As usual, any mistakes or missed spots noticed are completely the fault of my terrible tablet camera and in no way reflect my lazy painting habits...

2nd shot makes it look they're the Beatles on the crosswalk.

They look amazing, do they get to bring the oliphant? ... what's the other giant machine behind them? -- if you could stat out a 200 ton industrial mech, that'd be cool.

Knew it reminded me of something! :-D

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.  :)

I'm eager to get these first 5 done today!! Now I just need to wait for the rest of the IS mechs from the KS to hit retail to finish the unit!

And the color is actually stained gunmetal and not gold; although the sepia stain makes the steel color look more red-gold. I'll highlight the edges with brighter slivered steel that will pop the original color better when I'm almost done.

Now I'm thinking of adding black stripes to the red plates.... why do I do this to myself!?  ;D

I'm on the hunt for a good unit symbol for the Wreckers to have made into decals now... 🤔

Simple, yet elegant.  The gold looks very sharp.  Well done!  8)

How about a wrecking ball going through a mech?  ^-^

There's some sort of gaming clan on Facebook with a nice logo, but Edge won't let me copy a link to the pic. Image search for "wrecking crew".

The logo has a demonic skull impaled by a sword, with crossed battleaxes in the background. The motto is "Leave only ashes". The red scheme fits with your 'Mechs, and would go well on bare metal.

I can state nothing about the nature of the group, but the imagery seems apt (if a little fussy for small decals)

And btw - great looking minis! From iron cometh strength! ;)

Okay, finished for now... Other than the dull cost spray tomorrow that is! I moved last weekend and now I don't know where my box of basing materials is... 😖 Decals still stuck in research committee as well. But tomorrow they will be table ready! And the tanks and infantry is getting started as I type!
I added a layer of Gunmetal to kill some the gold effect the weathering stain created, and did a blue steel finish on the gun barrels. For a couple days painting late at night when I have some time to myself, I'm pretty satisfied. 😁

You're doing more to them? Holy Cow, those are pretty darn amazing as is ... but my painting skills peaked in 9th grade Studio Art, been in decline since (talking decades here).
