It will be interesting to see where this is going. Could we end up with the Confederated Federated Commonwealth of Free League States? Versus the Draconis Decline?

3069 - March - Operations Rat II and III

Given the fact that Operation Rat II had been almost entirely successful in retaking the former Sarna March (with the only hold out by March being the Capellan forces on Sarna itself) the High Command merged Rat II and Rat III into a single active Operation during March 3069. Given the recent developments on Sian and beyond the High Command was more than aware that they were reaching the end of active operations for the time being. Plus given the issues arising within the Draconis Combine and the First Princes's commitments to their allies regarding Terra they were aware that the AFFS's attentions would soon be needed elsewhere. Which wasn't to say they didn't plan to finish strongly.

Sarna

Sang-shao Garry Weinrib had known that when the second wave of invaders had finished off the Sarna Cadre that his own forces in the city of Sarna itself would soon find their position going from bad to worse, but he had no idea just how right he was. With the 5th Syrtis Fusiliers, 1st Kestrel Grenadiers and the 1st FedSun's Dragoons pressing him on every single front he had effectively no reserve. Which was when the AFFS troops on planet hit him with a triple assault. All along the lines the troops of the first wave surged forward and slammed into his forces, pinning them in place, while the 1st Federated Sun's Armoured Cavalry which had reboarded their dropships conducted a combat drop from an insanely low level directly into his rear areas. If that wasn't enough the 2nd Lexington Combat Guards performed a sledgehammer style assault on his 2nd battalion en mass. As soon as the lines were broken they began rolling up the rest of his positions while the 1st Tikonov Cossack's surged through the gap to link up with the 1st FSAC.

Within 24 hours of the second wave having joined the fight against his forces Sang-shao Weinrib's defensive plans were in tatters. His lines were broken and battalion sized formations of enemy battlemech's were rampaging through his rear areas and cutting his troops into isolated pockets which were then being reduced one by one by the follow on AFFS's main forces. His faint hope of holding out had been shattered, and on the 18th of March he formally ordered the surrender of his remaining troops after his last major supply depot had been overrun by 2 companies of Cossack's.

With the surrender of the Sang-shao organised resistance to the AFFS collapsed, with few of his remaining troops or their Home Guard support prepared to continue on in a hopeless last stand. A handful of die hard's attempted to break out and go to ground, but with the huge numerical advantage of the AFFS invasion force the Davion lines were almost rock solid and the few attempts were met with overwhelming firepower. By the end of March Sarna was fully secure for the Federated Suns.

Capella

In orbit over Capella the additional marine formations joined the initial deployments and continued to battle to seize the shipyards, preferably intact. The seizure of the facilities main power plants by the 1st Federated Suns Marine Corp Battle Armour Battalion on the 19th of March spelt the end for continued resistance within the shipyards, although by the time the last holdouts were cleaned out the death toll amongst the FedSun's Marine units had been staggering and the yards themselves had suffered heavy damage.

On the planet itself the AFFS second wave launch their attack. Leading the way 7th Crucis Lancers make a combat drop directly on top of Ceres City. Syn's Hussars, by now reviled by their fellow CCAF units and demoralised by repeated retreats and having had their commanding officer executed for treason, put up a stiff resistance to the landing Lancers for the first 24 hours. However as the 15th and 26th Avalon Hussar's RCT's land around the city and begin launching attacks to link up with the 7th Crucis Lancers and with no support being dispatched from Memorial City except stern instructions to sell their lives dearly they begin to fall apart on the second day. The first surrenders are isolated units that have been cut off and isolated, but soon entire companies are powering down and requesting terms. Which is when the Maskirovka's "suicide charges" installed within their battlemech cockpits go off. During routine maintenance each Syn's Hussar's battlemech's cockpit ejection mechanism had been sabotaged that at a certain signal it would deploy - but only the seat itself. Not the blow out panels within the actual battlemech's head. Given the hurried nature of the sabotage not all of the ejection seats actually deploy, but fully 2/3rds of the remaining Syn's Hussars end up crushed to death within their own cockpits. The Davion troops fighting the Syn's Hussars when they discover this treachery by their enemies security services are disgusted and swiftly cut down any remaining resistance and secure Ceres City. At which point the 4th Deneb Light Cavalry is brought down from orbit and deploys to probe and harass the enemy forces in and around Memorial City while the 7th Lancers and 15th and 26th Hussars refit and repair their equipment.

The Davion Assault Guards and 2nd Davion Guards continue to squeeze the pocket around the War College. In a relentless battle of attrition the 2 much larger Davion formations use their size and experience to grind Warrior House Ijori and it's Home Guard supporting formations into the dust. A favoured tactic is for formations of Assault Guards to attack and cause heavy damage before retreating to refit their own damaged battlemechs and equipment, while the faster 2nd Davion Guards immedietly probe the same part of the line, often catching the Capellan formations still damaged and exhausted. It isn't a subtle tactic and is repeated so many times that the defenders know it is coming - but when outnumbered so heavily there is little they can actually do. Warrior House Ijori, reading the writing on the wall, eventually attempts to break out from the pocket on the 24th but their attack is stopped before it can even properly begin when a full 2 wings of 2nd Davion Guards aerospace fighters pounce on their jump off point and bomb them into the dark ages. With the destruction of the last company of Warrior House troops the remaining Home Guard formations soon begin to surrender or simply desert. By the end of March the War College is in Davion hands.

As March comes to a close the only remaining Capellan territory on Capella is Memorial City and it's defenders know that when the Davion formations mass to attack them they will be horrendously outnumbered by battle hardened enemy forces. Their growing dread is briefly dispelled when news comes of an unexpected jump signature at a nearby pirate point. Hopes are raised throughout the CCAF command bunker that reinforcement's have arrived from Sian... However these false and unrealistic hopes are crushed when it soon becomes evident that the arrivals are none other than the 1st Davion Guards RCT and the 1st Arcadian RCT - accompanying none other than First Prince Victor himself and Khan of the Sun Jaguars along with her Keshik and 1st Sun Jaguar Guards.

Preston

Fresh from the almost bloodless conquest of Cordiagr the 3rd FedSun's Dragoons RCT arrives in the Preston system. Given how close the world was to Sian it was perhaps unsurprising that the local Home Guard formations were mere paper tigers and with the news coming from Sian totally undermining any desire to fight on the Preston Home Guard followed Cordiagr's example and surrendered immedietly.

Ovan

Despite being at only 60% of full strength the elite 7th FedSun's Dragoons RCT headed for Ovan with a well founded optimism. Now considered not only to be one of the premier units within the FedSun's Dragoons but also within the wider AFFS the 7th Dragoons conduct a flawless combat drop in and around the main spaceport of the world of Ovan - only to find they have wasted their time as the planetary government is falling all over themselves to surrender. Preferably yesterday.

Glasgow

The 1st Chisholm Raiders RCT does face some opposition when they hit Glasgow, but this is purely from scattered and isolated Home Guard elements which refuse to acknowledge their own planetary governments surrender. As such the Raiders fall back on their dispersed combat command and begin rooting out the resisting Home Guard formations. With a fully refitted front line RCT at his disposal Leftenant General Ryan Rand-Davion shows once again that the High Command's faith in his command abilities was well justified and conducts a mopping up campaign that swiftly secures the planet for Davion rule. On the 30th March he is formally promoted to Marshal in recognition of his successes.

Harloc

The 1st Kathil Uhlan's arrive on Harloc with something to prove. Carrying a prestigious name and lauded as the successors of the famed "Morgan's Lions" the new unit is keen to impress in their first solo operation. Facing off against the by now elite 6th Harloc's Cavalry Raiders the Uhlan's have a number of advantages. Firstly they are at almost their full allotted strength of a reinforced RCT and are fully equipped with the finest equipment that the Federated Sun's can provide. Additionally while technically only rated as a veteran formation their command staff is again amongst the best the AFFS have. Combined with their large conventional formations they soon have the Raiders on the ropes. However finishing them off proves to be difficult.

Within a few days of the Uhlan's landing the command staff of the Raiders realise that they cannot go toe to toe with the heavier and larger formation. Worse their Home Guard support formations are no match for the Uhlan's conventional forces even if they hadn't already been smashed in the previous fighting and had their best remaining troops culled to help rebuild the Raiders themselves. Therefore they forgo a formal defence of the planet and begin fighting a guerrilla campaign of raid and counter raid against the invading Davion's.

While the Uhlan's could easily call upon other AFFS formations nearby to help run down the Raiders they insist on doing this alone. A sense of needing to prove itself permeates the whole command. Again and again they struggle to pin down the more mobile Raiders and finish the job. Yet slowly something is becoming evident to both sides - the people of Harloc itself are growing tired. The world has been the sight of numerous battles during this war and even the most pro-Liao citizen can see that they aren't winning this fight. Even if the 6th Harloc Cavalry Raiders can drive the Uhlan's from the world, all that means is that the world will face another invasion. Soon. Probably within a few weeks with how things are going. The Home Guard formations still fighting alongside the Raiders are the first to sense this shift in mood, and soldier by soldier begin to lose heart and drift away. None of the citizens are quite ready to turn on the Raiders yet, but they are no longer supporting them.

Under a different leader the Raiders might have responded differently to this development, but Sang-shao W Deng Tang considers himself an honourable warrior and will not condone reprisals against the civilians he's sworn to protect. He is also aware that it isn't just the people of Harloc that are tired. His own regiment is by now a miss match of original Raiders, survivors of the 6th Confederation Reserve Cavalry and bits and pieces of other formations and the local Home Guard forces. While they are still a formed military unit and prepared to continue fighting they are starting to show signs of mental and physical exhaustion while their equipment is almost falling apart after hard battles. On the 27th of March he decides it is best to seek terms while his formation is still a viable threat rather than wait till the people fully turn on them and his command falls apart or suffers a major reversal. A truce is called on the 28th and negotiations begin - they will be completed swiftly during April.

Hexare

The 4th Davion Guards RCT arrives above Hexare and to nobodies surprise at this stage of the campaign the local Home Guard formations refuse to commit suicide by fighting against the elite RCT in a hopeless cause. The world is swiftly brought into compliance with the FedSuns.

Imalda

In an almost twin situation to the 4th's arrival at Hexare the 5th Davion Guards RCT arrive in the Imalda system and immedietly take the surrender of the local garrison of Home Guard troops. The only resistance to the occupation is a near riot when some students attempt to resist the landing of the 5th Guards at the spaceport by occupying the landing pads. So instead the 5th land nearby in a park and send infantry to arrest the protesters with the active help of the local police forces who are desperate to avoid a massacre.

New Westin

The single battlemech battalion of mercenaries from Wilson's Hussars arrive in the New Westin supported by a full mixed conventional brigade of AFFS troops. While the High Command had thought this might be a risk, the collapse of the CCAF and civilian morale with the Confederation had convinced them that the likelihood of resistance would be slim. Just in case 2 companies worth of small mercenary formations (including former General Neece's Green Giants) were attached to the Hussars. Many of these would formally join Wilson's Hussars following this operation and bring the formation up to 5 companies worth of troops. The occupation goes as expected with almost no fighting.

Hustaing

The 6th Robinson Rangers - eager to return to the Draconis March in case the hated Kurita's attacked - hit the world of Hustaing hard and fast. Giving the local Home Guard formations no chance to consider fighting back the 6th's battlemech forces landed in combat drops directly on top of the planetary capital and dictated surrender terms to the captured local commanders and civilian leadership. While this operation was a success the risk of it drew some criticism from the High Command. However both Duke Hasek and Duke Sandoval both commended the 6th Ranger's for their "daring strike". Indeed they would be awarded the Limp Sword Flag by New Syrtis - the first Robinson Ranger's unit to ever receive this award.

Decus

The 8th Syrtis Fusilirs RCT arrived over Decus and unlike many of the other units in this wave found the local Home Guard prepared to fight to resist the invaders. Roughly a combined arms brigade of infantry and armour attempted to resist their landing and fought it out in the planetary capital. Outmatched and outgunned the only thing that the Home Guard achieved was to bring destruction down on most of the industrial areas of the city near the spaceport. While many of the locals blamed the 8th for this destruction many shared the blame with the "fools" of the Home Guard. A dislike of House Hasek and the Capellan March would pervade Decus for several decades after this battle. However when Duchess Cassandra immedietly sent word that the industrial destruction would be rebuilt by her own government in April Decus would soon become a fervent supporter of the League March and it's government on St Ives.

Carmen

The last official world invaded during this wave would be Carmen by the 1st Crucis Lancers RCT. With word coming of Sun-Tzu's death and the fall of his regime the planet was desperate to avoid the chaos and destruction of being drawn into a civil war and happily surrendered to the 1st Crucis Lancers. The only holdouts were the local Maskirovka's headquarters, but after a few volleys of LRM's and autocannon fire the resistance was soon overcome.

Claxton

Officially the world of Claxton was not a target for Operation Rat's Fifth Wave, but it found itself under attack from the Sirdar CMM near the end of March. Leftenant General Ito Russel, long considered a glory hound by his peers and superiors, relying on the faith his troops had in him launched an unsanctioned attack upon the world of Claxton. Despite the aversion many within the upper echelon's of command held for him few could question his skill or bravery. Despite leading a second line formation the General proved his skills as he outmanoeuvred the few Home Guard formations he found himself up against and swiftly forced them to surrender or face annihilation. In a single week he managed to conquer the planet for the Federated Suns. At the end of the day success has a thousand fathers and defeat none, and nobody was prepared to order him to return the planet to Confederation control! Again he and his command were awarded the Limp Sword Flag by a "grateful" Duke Hasek - and the General himself was invited to New Syrtis to receive it - and the private ass chewing that came with it for endangering his command in such an unsanctioned attack.

Summary

With 12 worlds falling to House Davion and Capella clearly not far behind the others the Fifth Wave was considered a resounding success. It was by now apparent that the CCAF was in total collapse and the only real issue with further attacks was the logistical issues and possible insurgencies. As well as reports from the Draconis Combine. A number of High Command officers continued to advocate for a strike on Sian or at least a strike to take the remaining 6 worlds of the Capellan Commonality, while others felt that it was time to halt.

3069 - March - Dissolution of the Capellan Conderation

With the Battle of Sian finally over Strategic Military Director Talon Zahn makes his move to try and safeguard what he can of the former Capellan Confederation. By now he has accepted that the Confederation he has served his whole life is doomed. Any chance to preserved it had died when the Andurian Commonality and the rump Victoria Commonality had refused to acknowledge his coup against House Liao on Sian. Instead of attempting to preserve a corpse he instead announced the formation of the Sian Republic - with himself as it's Lord Protector. He invites all remaining Capellan Worlds to join the Republic as full members - while at the same time sending out requests for recognition from the various other realms of the Inner Sphere.

He swiftly receives word from Castrovia and Ito, the remaining worlds of the Sian Duchy, that they wish to join his newly declared Sian Republic. Both worlds however make it abundantly clear that they will not continue to fight the AFFS. Should Davion RCT's appear in their skies they will immedietly surrender.

While the world of Pella II has been annexed to the Andurien Commonality the remaining 3 worlds of the Krin Duchy also all agree to join the Sian Republic, as do the remaining "free worlds" of the Altora Duchy - Altora itself and the world of Fronde. This gives the new Sian Republic a grand total of 8 worlds.

The Sian Republic Military is largely built around the Red Lancer's regiment as well as a number of Sian Dragoon regiments - the 1st (having switched sides following the nuclear detonation of the Maskirovka's HQ and having absorbed the few survivors of the 11th), 10th and 12th - and the 7th Confederation Reserve Cavalry. Warrior House Imarra had been folded into the Red Lancers given the heavy losses both sides have suffered. They receive a welcome boost when the 3rd Confederation Reserve Cavalry and 4th Sian Dragoons deployed to the Andurien Commonality defect and turn up at Sian.

Duke Baxter's Andurien Commonality responds to the formation of the Sian republic by sending the 2nd and 4th McCarron's Armoured Cavalry to seize the worlds of Betelgeuse and Sigma Mare from the collapsing Confederation. On Betelgeuse the "invading" "Andurien" forces are in fact joined by Warrior House Kamata who swore eternal loyalty to the "Divine Chancellor".

Niomede, Principia and Andarmax are similarly annexed to the Andurien Commonality - the first 2 by Duke Baxter's diplomatic efforts with Andarmax joining when the Shin Legion arrives to inform the planet that they are indeed joining the Commonality.

Almost as soon as these worlds join the Andurien Commonality their new ruler orders their Home Guards to dispatch at least 1/3rd of their infantry formations to the rest of the Commonality to aid in holding the restive Andurien and other Free Worlds League planets for the Commonality. These formations are provisionally named the "Andurien Rifles" and are ordered to put down the growing insurrections. They vary in quality wildly, with the formations drawn from Betelgeuse and Sigma Mare well equipped and professional while the forces from Andarmax are almost an unformed rabble.

The Andurien Commonality is undoubtedly the major "military" power of the former Capellan realms. It's forces are based around the 5 regiments of McCarron's Armoured Cavalry, but also include the 4th Tau Ceti Rangers, 15th Dracon, Shin Legion, Marshigama’s Legionnaires, Warrior House Kamata, 2nd Liao Guard, 2nd Sian Dragoons and Warrior House Lu Sann. Although the later 3 commands in particular are considered of extremely dubious reliability.

In contrast to the other forming realms diplomacy the Government-in-Exile of the Victoria Commonality declares itself as the single true successor of the Confederation and continues to maintain they are in fact the heirs of Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao while denouncing all others. The 1st Victoria Rangers and the 3rd Sian Dragoons both swear allegiance to the Victoria Commonality. The Government-in-Exile which is based on Gunthar makes a number of bold and aggressive declarations against the Federated Suns, Sian Republic and Andurien Commonality - but does nothing but attempt to shore up it's faltering position - although it does manage to attract the loyalty of the 1st Capellan Chargers on Wright who bring that Sian Commonality world into the fold with them. Although given that they number barely 2 companies of battered battlemech's they add little real military might to the Victoria Commonality.

The remaining worlds of the Capellan Commonality attempt as best they can to take no decision as to which faction to join. Without a single battlemech formation between all 6 worlds they realise that they are effectively at the mercy of the surrounding powers and don't want to formally declare for one side or another. Although most realise that the most likely outcome will be them being annexed to either the FedSuns or joining the Sian Republic. Almost nobody suggests forming a rump Capellan Commonality in exile as that is likely to bring the AFFS down on them hard.

Along with these 6 unaffiliated worlds there are also Capellan troops on Capella itself as well as the 6th Harloc Cavalry Raiders on Harloc and a number of smaller splintered holdouts throughout the FedSun's occupied worlds who haven't declared for one party or another...

How is the Andurien Commonality going to support it's military strength if memory serves they don't have much in the way of industry on the worlds that have taken.

The annexation of Betelgeuse was critical to Andurien for this reason. It isn't much, but it's a core. Plus they plan on forming good relations with Canopus. If they can.

3069 - March - Formation of the League March

With the agreement largely hammered out between Conrad Davion and Duchess Cassandra Allard-Liao, and with further discussions having taken place between Princess Isis Davion and Duke George Hasek, the formal deceleration that the St Ives Compact would join the Federated Sun's and form the basis of the new League March was made on the 28th of March 3069. The League March would only formally come into being on the 1st of January 3070, but in the meantime the integration and establishment of the new March would continue as quickly as was possible. The plans for this have been agreed between the various parties so that they can being laying the framework for the new March.

It had been agreed that as each PDZ became "functional" they would be switched from their current "Military Governments" run directly by the AFFS to the government of the League March on St Ives. The Achernar and Nanking PDZ's are immedietly transferred over to control from St Ives, while the provisional St Ives PDZ is also granted the same status - despite in no way qualifying officially due to the sheer damage to it's infrastructure. However politically it is felt that having the seat of the new March not actually being under the control of the March would be disastrous. The Federated Sun's Government and the AFFS immedietly begin pouring even more resources into the former St Ives Compact in order to prop it up and get it up and running as soon as humanly possible.

The remaining worlds of the former Sarna March are divided into 4 additional PDZ which are to be formed up over the coming months. The Styk PDZ is formed from the worlds coreward of Styk, Tsitsang, St Andre and Hunan - with a conscious decision having been made not to award Liao the honour of naming the PDZ and League March Militia to be based there after the shameful surrender of the original Liao SMM in 3057. The Corey PDZ was effectively reformed from it's former worlds - unlike in the other worlds cases Corey is once again granted the honour of naming the PDZ and March Militia given the hard fight that the original Corey SMM put up in 3057 despite being cut off and eventually forced to surrender. Similar to the Corey PDZ the former Sarna PDZ is reformed from it's former worlds, but this time the PDZ and it's corresponding March Militia is to be granted to the world of Truth. The remaining worlds of the former Sarna March are all allocated to the newly renamed Menkib PDZ with the plan being to raise a Menkib LMM in due course.

St Ives Compact worlds find themselves transitioning into the new St Ives PDZ - although some thought was given to breaking this PDZ up into 2 separate formations it was thought that it was best to leave them former Compact intact. The Capella PDZ is planned to be formed from the world of Capella itself when it finally surrenders and the worlds of Geifer, Aldertaine, No Return, Randar, Relevow, Minacora, New Sagan, Ares, Necromo and Capricorn III. The Hexare PDZ is to be formed from the worlds between the St Ives and Capella PDZ, the border of the Sian Republic down to and including the worlds of Decus and Hustaing. The remaining PDZ of the League March is planned to be formed from the worlds between the Capellan PDZ and the League/Sian Republic border. This is provisionally listed as the Ingersoll PDZ.

The Achernar, Nanking and Styk PDZ are allocated to the Tikonov Operations Area, while the Corey, Truth and Menkib PDZ's are allocated to the newly reformed Palos Operations Area. The St Ives, Capella, Hexare and Ingersoll PDZ are all allocated to the Warlock Operations Area. All in all the plans call for the League March to consist of 3 Operations Areas which will incorporate 10 PDZ's between them. Although all of these borders are for the time being provisional and dependent on further conquests from the fracturing Confederation. Some thought for instance is given to incorporating the Sian Republic as an additional PDZ if peace is not achieved.

At the same time and in discussions with Duke Hasek the new border between the Grand Base and Victoria PDZ of his Capellan March is set with everything coreward of Madras and Menke (including those 2 worlds) being assigned to the Grand Base PDZ, while everything rimward of Decatur and Victoria (including those 2 worlds) being assigned to the Victoria PDZ. The Duke is already pushing for 2 additional Borderer regiments to be formed at Claxton and Bellatrix...

Honestly, I still really don't buy Baxter being able to hold his position - he simply doesn't have the troops, ground support, civilian support or supply lines. Even trying to reach out and scratch together a little infantry is far too little, too late. I would have expected his troops to be more or less holding up in their bases and/or sleeping in their Mechs if they are outside...

But, pushing past it, we have a curious fragmentation of the Confederation.

You know, hilariously, Victor could use this as an excellent cover for his need to pause and resupply. He needs a break now anyway, but not many people really understand that (or his commitment to hit Terra) so if he announced a ceasefire and holding of any more advancements to open talks with the new splinter states, it would be a great way to buy a little time. Let him pause his troops and resupply them. Might even, with the League March now officially a thing, get the planets around Sian or Sian itself to just decide this is as good as its going to get and request to join the League March and swear allegiance to Casandra (and Victor). Because looking at the maps and OOBs, honestly, this is only ending ONE way. And everyone has to know it.

And for Victor, peacefully picking up a dozen or more worlds would be outstanding and nominally keep the momentum still running while in truth he is standing his troops down to catch a breath ... and shifting more units, jumpships and warships into position to either strike at Terra or defend against the Combine (and as was said earlier, hilariously, he can move troops to do either as the Combine has given him the perfect excuse to shift troops towards the Terran core. Dito Peter for that matter who can make noises about supporting his Brother quietly...
"I, the Baron of Strang, care not for your new names. Clans? Jade Falcons? I call you by your true name: Scum of the Star League, traitors of free will, persecutors of the Periphery come back to lord it over freedom-loving people. Come ahead, you steel-eyed robots! Come ahead and taste what a million like-minded people think of you and your damn Clans!"

Victor might be better off recognizing the Sian Republic and leaving it alone. They are about to conquer the old and original Capital of the CC with Victor personally showing up to drive the final nail into the coffin. Baxter will never receive recognition both because he has "declared" for the Chancellor but also because Victor and the FedSuns already have obligations to the former leaders/owners of those worlds. The Victoria Commonality depends on what they do but since they also "declared for the Chancellor unless they get smart they will be crushed the only ones that might take them is the MoC but they are also in hot water and if they want to not get hurt they will withdraw from the fighting completely and leave the remaining CC to die.

My guess has been that Baxter is going to be forced to turn to the MoC, swearing to Sun-Tzu's "heir" in Naomi's child, and the Magistracy sending in forces to help pacify and absorb the whole thing.

In fact I wonder why the MOC are so balls deep with the Capellans. The idiot child being madly in love with Sunny aside, you’d think SOMEONE would be able do some basic math and figure out siding with him against Victor is NOT going to end well. Especially after the sheer casual way he humbled the Bulls next door. Let alone the war crimes their troops are seeing CCAF and aligned forces committing...

Instead they keep providing troops and support. Even if they might have orders to run for it if they get targeted, it doesn’t in any way that they’ve declared as co-belligerents against Victor and the Federated Suns and even a small punitive expeditionary force could cause catastrophic damage to them ... and it’s not like they have a FWL to hide behind right now.

I’m surprised Victor (possibly through his wife who might have a better idea who to talk to) hasn’t pointed this out to them some time ago...

3069 - March - General Update

The announcement of the St Ives Compact joining the Federated Suns and forming the core of a new League March was met with joy across the rest of the Federated Suns as a sign of the realms growing strength and influence, and dread across a number of other realms. The various factions of the Free Worlds League for instance, having seen the swift destruction of the Capellan Confederation were under no illusions that their shattered realm could resist the Davion juggernaut - indeed Oriente sent out feelers to the other splinter factions to see if some sort of compromise could be reached to restore the Leagues shattered unity. While they received some positive feedback from the neutral Parliament on Stewart, they Regulan's and "Legitimate" Parliament on Atreus responded with demands Oriente accept their own legitimacy. The less said about the Draconis Combine's general response to the news that the FedSun's was forming a new large and potentially powerful March out of the majority of the Confederation the better...

Military officers and civilian government officials poured into the new League March from the rest of the Federated Suns, attempting to begin setting up the required governmental and defensive infrastructure, while Davion companies did likewise economically. Princess Isis Davion influenced her husband to make attempts to prevent the wholesale economic takeover by existing Davion companies with some success. Although in the area of the military industrial complex this was less successful...

For instance on both St Ives and Menke the StarCorp executives were presented with compulsory purchase orders. StarCorp had made itself an enemy of House Davion and their continued activity within the realm would not be tolerated. Their facilities would be subsumed into SunCorp and StarCorp paid a "fair" sum for the production lines. The sum was in fact generous when considered that it was not an optional offer, although was still far from what the facilities were considered worth by StarCorp. They were invited to take it up with the courts, but were assured they would be wasting their time.

Similarly Ceres Metals Industries found itself renamed, reforming as St Ives Metals Industries with it's facilities on St Ives itself as well as Indicass, Warlock, Tikonov and presumably Capella itself when that world was finally conquered ending up in the new company. The companies flagship facility on St Ives however was heavily damaged and wouldn't be repaired until December.

Naval officers also rushed to the Capellan, Sarna and Necromo shipyards and began inspecting not only the shipyards themselves but also the ships in them to see what could be salvaged and whether it was better to scrap the existing ships or complete them. One major announcement regarding these that the Aris Memorial Shipyards over Necromo would be renamed the Kai Allard-Liao Shipyards.

Other renaming going on was the Yu Huang and Ti Ts'ang class battlemech's and Kuan-Ti dropship class. All 3 would be continued in production for the AFFS but renamed - the Yu Huang would be renamed the Kai, with the Ti Ts'ang renamed the Halberd and the Kuan-Ti renamed the Cassandra class. All 3 designs would also receive a change in armour mouldings more in keeping with the AFFS than CCAF. In the same vein the huge battle armour complex on Capella in what would become that worlds St Ives Metals Industries plant was earmarked to switch over to producing Cavalier and Infiltrator II class battle armours.

The AFFS also began to properly organise the garrison forces for the new March this month, although the process would take until the end of the year to properly finalise. Examples of this were when the 1st Tikonov Cossacks were ordered to return to Styk to garrison that world, the 1st Federated Suns Armoured Cavalry dispatched to Corey, 39th Avalon Hussars RCT to Gan Singh, 8th Deneb Light Cavalry to Second Try, 1st Kestrel Grenadiers were sent to Elnath although they were ordered to prepare for immediate redeployment and the 1st FedSun's Dragoons being given similar orders when they were moved to Yunnah.

Alongside these redeployment came the beginnings of the integration of the St Ives Compact Military into the AFFS. Provisionally the 1st and 2nd St Ives Lancers were assigned to the new St Ives Armoured Cavalry Brigade was were the 1st St Ives Cheveau-Legers although the Cheveau-Legers were being considered for an independent command. Some thought was also being given to disbanding the 2nd St Ives Lancers or folding them into the Cheveau-Legers given the horrendous casualties they had suffered recently. However it was felt that disbanding such a prestigious command as the first order of the new integration would be taken badly by the Lancers. One piece of good news was that the mercenary command Rubinsky's Light Horse, given their commanding officers romantic relationship with the new Duchess of St Ives had agreed to join the St Ives Armoured Cavalry Brigade as their 3rd St Ives Lancers, while their sister regiment Khorsakov's Cossacks also with strong links to the new League and Duchess had agreed to join the Tikonov Cossack's as the 3rd Tikonov Cossack's. Given the shattered nature of the former St Ives commands these 2 additions were more than welcome to help reinforce the League March. It also led to a major upswing in popularity for the transfer to the League March on Tikonov itself given the return of their mercenary brethren and the fact that the Khorsakov's Cossack's had been folded into the Cossack Brigade and not the St Ives Lancers. Alongside these announcements came the news that the Duchess intended to marry Colonel Marco Rubinsky in the new year.

One area where this was not however evident was Roman's Mounted Fusiliers. The unit was now effectively refusing all orders and while not in open rebellion was point blank refusing to acknowledge the integration of the St Ives Compact into the League March. While Duchess Cassandra Allard-Liao was sending repeated messages to the command attempting to defuse the situation she was also getting closer and closer to having to send in military formations to bring order to the rebellious unit. She had even attempted to offer them a personal mercenary contract with her rather than service with the Federated Suns, but none of her messages had been returned.

A final major announcement in March was also that Duchess Isis Davion was returning to New Avalon, where she was expected to give birth to her and First Prince Victor's son sometime in September. If the people of the Federated Sun's had been delighted with the news of the new March, the announcement that the First Prince would soon have an heir was met with almost riotious celebrations across the Capellan, Draconis and Crucis Marches. Even within the League March a number of celebrations were held - for instance on Tikonov and Achernar.

On Bristol the second line for the Fury Command Tank came online at the Julassa-Kumbold plant. The demand for these tanks following the few battles they had taken part in during the recent fighting was far outstripping the production. Already the High Command were considering not only an expansion but a second production facility!

SunCorp as well as it's new facilities on Menke and St Ives also saw it's Crofton plant expand with the new Warhammer line coming operational. This brought the Warhammer production facilities on Crofton up to 3 lines.

The New Damascus based plant for the Federated Suns Defence Industry saw it's final line be assembled. The Thunderbird aerospace fighter line had finally been rebuild on the planet and also upgraded with new technology. There were no current plans to expand production of this fighter given the lukewarm demand for it from the AFFS. Still several mercenary commands were eager to add almost any fighters they could and could be counted on to keep sales coming in.

On Clovis the Sandoval Refit Centre goes operational. Elements of the Kentares DMM begin cycling through the facility to have their battlemechs not only refitted but also rebuilt. The Fighting Urukhai and Northwind Highlander units are also promised access to it as soon as the Kentares DMM is finished.

The Norse Battlemech Works complete their Shadow Hawk line on Mayetta. The company begin considering what omnimech's to begin construction and start discussions with leasing either the Javelin-O, Dervish-O, Argus-O or Templar-O for production at the sight.

On Luthien the entire system goes into a blackout, with the HPG going offline in the last week of March... Warships at the main jump points turn back all attempts to contact the planet "On order of the Coordinator"...

looks like the DC is in for some trouble.  I do like that some of the CC machines will be sticking around.  the FS might want to set up a two or three navy support bases in the new area to better support any local needs and to be ready if they are needed on the edges of the new boarder.

Well looks like we are about to see a good old fashioned family murder fest. That or a civil war starts because of the stupidity of the son and the arrogance of the father to keep important secrets from those that should know.

Huh, my guess is a Black Dragon - WOB alliance, similar to the crazy events in canon, given the HPG has gone offline (as even the Black Dragons are not so crazy as to risk a full scale interdiction of the Combine by doing something stupid there ... I think).

This isn't good for the Combine (although it could be the perfect distraction to allow Victor, Peter and Dow to slam Terra 'on the hop' as it were if the WOB *has* directed its focus away from home even more...

Not sure WTF is going on with Roman's Mounted Fusiliers. I refuse to believe they are just sulking for the sake of sulking as they don't seem to be fanatics to the point of wanting to die for, well, nothing. And if they were, you would have expected them to strike or try to escape or something by now. But they seem determined to either go out in a blaze of glory or ... what?

Curious to see where this goes. As it's pretty clearly reaching the point they either stand down or die.

3069 - March - Interlude - Luthien

Garden of Tranquillity
Imperial Palace
Luthien
Pesht District
Draconis Combine

Hohiro Kurita strode into the Garden of Tranquillity and attempted to keep the surprise from his face. Given the information he had been provided by his sources within the Imperial Palace the Coordinator was effectively bed ridden. Yet instead of being directed either to the state of the art medical facility within the palace or to his fathers personal chambers he had been guided here. To his father's favourite garden of all the many pleasure gardens within the palace grounds. Either his father was putting up a front or his agents and sources had lied to him. Either way he was unhappy. Still nothing showed on his face as he strode down the carefully laid out path and across the wooden bridge that crossed over a gently flowing river to his father's resting area under his favourite Somei-yoshino. Bowing he awaited his fathers motion to kneel in front of him as the old man slowly prepared the tea they would drink together. While to his son's eyes Theodore Kurita appeared somewhat thin and hints around his eyes that spoke of pain but he looked far from being at deaths door.

Wordlessly the Coordinator finished the tea and passed his son and heir a precious heirloom cup before pouring himself one. Both men sipped the tea and enjoyed the simple pleasures of the ceremony and liquid before finally the Coordinator spoke conversationally. "Are you here to depose me?"

"Bango!" Hohiro exclaimed entirely on instinct and was surprised to realise he spoke the truth. "If you doubt me father, say the word and I shall prove my loyalty with my life's blood!"

Theodore's eyes eased somewhat and he waved his hand in the negative. "That will not be necessary. Seppuku is so permanent. Then what do you wish my son if not my throne?"

Hohiro carefully placed the fragile porcelain cup down as his anger mounted. "Revenge against Victor Davion. He has cost me a sister and you a daughter. He has stolen our rightful worlds and humbled the Dragon. For only one of these crimes he must die!"

"I agree." Theodore laid down his own cup much more calmly.

"You do?" Hohiro couldn't keep the surprise from his voice.

"Of course. I am the Dragon. Do you think my honour less than yours?" Theodore waited making eye contact with his son until the younger Kurita bowed his head in submission before continuing. "I admit, there was a time that I hoped for a different future. One where we gained the allegiance of House Davion through ties of blood and friendship... But those hopes are almost gone now. They reside only in the fragile body of a young boy. Omiko's son."

Hohiro made no sign he was surprised by the revelation his sister had a son by Victor Davion. Good, that spoke well to his intelligence that he had managed to find out this secret. Theodore nodded in approval. "Kitsune Kurita is my grandson. He will not be harmed. He is the son of your beloved sister. I expect you feel the same way...?"

"Of course father." Hohiro wasn't entirely as strong in his feelings towards his nephew, but he didn't hate the child. Better to agree.

"Good. Because there are of course the practical aspects. He has a claim to New Avalon." Theodore nodded approvingly at his son.

"Victor has removed him from the succession. The Davion's will never allow him to take the throne." Hohiro pointed out.

"What the Davion's will agree now is perhaps different from what they will agree when we have a Sword of Light regiment garrisoning Mount Davion..." Theodore smiled slightly. "Still that is for the future... For now... You wish war with the Federated Suns?"

"I do."

"Good. We shall have war. But not yet." Theodore held up a hand to stop his son's outburst. "Soon. Not yet. We need allies. We need to strengthen ourselves. Prepare the Dragon's Claws. Even with the new Regular regiments and the 4th Genyosha and 9th Amphigean Light Assault Group we are still outnumbered by the AFFS. They have greater depths than we. So we need not only new troops, but new allies."

Hohiro paused and forced himself to calm. "What do you have in mind father?"

"I will contact the Black Dragons. They have been our enemies. Now I will make them our friends. I will provide them 5 battlemech regiments worth of equipment and allow them to man them with the true believers that make up their ranks. They will be told that if they wish us to return to the old ways, they must prove the validity of their claims. They shall provide 5 shock regiments to our forces." Theodore spoke softly.

"We do not have 5 regiments worth of battlemechs as you describe father... Unless you have been keeping much greater secrets than I suspected." Hohiro stated.

"We do not. Which is where our new friends will come in. You are to travel to Terra itself. You will come to an accommodation with the Word of Blake fanatics there. They will provide us equipment as did their predecessor's within Comstar. Their troops will join us in fighting our mutual enemy House Davion. In return we will divide the Sphere. They can have the FWL and the Capellan Confederation. We shall take The FedSuns and the Lyran Alliance." Theodore spoke almost casually, but noting his sons glare at the mention of the WOB which had humiliated him. "Who do you hate more my son? Victor Davion or the WOB?"

Hohiro swallowed and finally spoke. "Victor."

"Then we shall use the WOB to bring down the Fox's son. In time perhaps the Dragon will burn the WOB as well. Who knows..." Theodore nodded to his son with such a promise.

The heir to the Dragon nodded at that eagerly before speaking. "Yet such an alliance will not be easy, nor will making the Black Dragon's serve us..."

"True. But the path the Dragon takes is rarely one of ease." The Coordinator pointed out.

"I am not sure the Word of Blake will listen to me father. Our... estrangement has become known to some." Hohiro had to admit.

"You will go as my Kanrei. That will convince them." Theodore gifted his son with the title as though it were a trivial thing but watched as his son visibly swelled with pride at the promotion. "There is one final thing my son... A final point of contention that must be removed before you go to Terra."

"What father?" Hohiro spoke quickly. "Name it."

"Your friend Sho-sa Shin Yodama. You are fond of him?" Theodore asked meeting his son's eyes.

"He is my friend father." Hohiro answered softly.

"Then I shall grant him the Honour of Wakizashi out of respect for your closeness with him." Theodore's voice was now filled with steel.

With words failing him Hohiro stared at his father with a plea in his eyes, but saw no respite there and finally nodded. "I will... Inform him of his honouring."

"Good. Understand this son. I bare him no ill will. Yet a samurai may only serve one master. The Coordinator. And as the Coordinator you may have to one day order your friends to their deaths. If you are to become Coordinator you must learn this lesson. I order his death not out of petty vengeance, but to teach you these lessons. Even in death Sho-sa Yodama will serve you well." Theodore nodded a dismissal to his son. "Inform him he has 24 hours to make the arrangements. You may act as his kaishakunin. When he has atoned you will leave at once for Terra."

You know, I expected to hear Theodore giving his Son wisdom and telling him that the Combine can not afford this vendetta with Victor. And that if he proceeds along this path, the Federated Suns will destroy them - quite possibly with that help of the Lyran Alloance who hate them just as much and that Peter would gleefully look to snap up what they could from behind his brothers skirts.

And that the time has come for the Dragon to refocus its energy elsewhere. To grow as it should and reclaim the worlds from the Clans first. Or something.

Instead all I heard from him was something like this......
"I, the Baron of Strang, care not for your new names. Clans? Jade Falcons? I call you by your true name: Scum of the Star League, traitors of free will, persecutors of the Periphery come back to lord it over freedom-loving people. Come ahead, you steel-eyed robots! Well what do you know I guess someone had to pick up the idiot ball afterall. Theodore has just doomed his nation but the DC does have a history for siding with the bad guys and tyrants. Now the WoB has another pasty for their war all because Theodore couldn't take being wrong and a massive failure.
