Miniature of the Fortnight #144: Wasp
« on: 06 December 2022, 22:00:35 »
The Wasp is one of the iconic light 'Mechs. Like others of its Unseen kin, it was first seen in Battledroids and persisted until it became Unseen. Then it became Reseen. Then Classic. And here we are, exposing new players to jumping light 'Mechs. If you'd like to learn how to use it in game, please see Giovanni Blasini's 'Mech of the Week article.

The Wasp is one of a few 'Mechs that has four groups of sculpts (Primitive, Unseen, Reseen, and Classic):The metal Classic sculpt (20-5145) was released briefly, one or two months before the most recent Harmony Gold lawsuit. I'm told it has been available at some conventions since then. (I had an opportunity to buy it, decided to wait until later, and then... I couldn't. Maybe we'll see it released again.)

Anyway! If you have any of these painted, please share pictures. We'd love to see them!

Our next fortnight wraps up the original Unseen and we will then return to our normal rotation:
  • 12/19: Stinger and Stinger IIC
  • 1/2: Lobo and Sun Cobra

The new sculpt in plastic and metal.

Wow--is the metal about 33% bigger or is it just my brain?

Most of it is the pose -- the plastic mini's running pose makes it shorter. But the metal one does look slightly larger.

I like the little Wasp. I even went out of my way to get a lance of the newer metal reimaged ones... But that doesn't mean I have many painted... In this case, just three, all from the early '90s.

Davion - Sakhara Academy - WSP-1A Wasp

Kurita - 2nd An Ting Regiment - WSP-1K Wasp

This first Kurita one's cockpit was repainted... Not sure why I didn't do the second one too... I really like the look.

Also, according to my list, I didn't paint this within the last 13-14 years (I started tracking my minis I finished at that point)... But seeing it close to the other two makes me think I must have used the wrong highlight color.. ??? ... Strange that it has the revamped cockpit and a different highlight color. I wonder what the story behind this was. And since I don't know, I guess I'll never find out.
