Overview:
When the Clans invaded, a terrifying specter appeared on the battlefield: The
MAD CAT, as identified by battle computers, an advanced technology hybrid of
the Marauder and Catapult.

It was unclear if the Inner Sphere could match this behemoth; but an attempt
had to be made. Thus was born the MAD-CPLT Marauder factory refit, designed on
the basis of early reports of the capabilities of the Timberwolf omnimech.


Capabilities:
The MAD-CPLT or "Mad Cat" successfully combined the armaments of the classic
Marauder and Catapult chassis, minus the troublesome Whirlwind autocannon, as
reports indicated the Clan 'mech had dispensed with it. It also mounts the
Anderson Propulsion 21 jet system of the Catapult, rendering it a highly
capable mobile opponent with significant firepower at any range.

In order to carry this increased payload, the Marauder-Catapult makes use of a
rebuilt Endo Steel version of the classic GM Marauder chassis, installs an
extralight engine, and mounts thirteen double heat sinks in place of the
sixteen single heat sinks that the classic MAD-3R carried.

CASE panels protect its admittedly short ammunition supply, a short supply
inherited from its progenitor Catapult. Because of this short ammunition supply
and the difficulty of keeping up with the combined heat load of a Marauder and
Catapult, barely practical even with double heat sinks, pilots are advised to
be sparing with LRM salvos, waiting for good shots before lighting off their
racks.


Deployment:
Deployment of the Marauder-Catapult was limited, with sales taking a nosedive
once battle salvage from the Clans became more widely distributed.

Once it became clear that the "Mad Cat" OmniMech was substantially more
powerful than the MAD-CPLT, no amount of marketing could save the
Marauder-Catapult from being labelled a failed inferior copy.

Rapid licensing of the factory refit specifications by GM to FWL manufacturers,
who were slower to discover the sheer scale of the differences between the
Marauder-Catapult and the coveted Mad Cat omnimech, was the only thing that
saved this design from complete extinction.

Marauder RefitCo, a subsidiary split off by GM in order to shield itself from
any negative ramifications when lawsuits threatened, went bankrupt in 3052,
although a variety of FWL and CC manufacturers still have the specifications on
file.

Did a test run against the bot. Heat management is fun. With the heat management curves, some jump usage, and an enemy interested in shooting back to get at the crunchy ammunition, 16 total LRM rounds doesn't actually seem that inappropriate.
