"Introtech" LAMs that aren't lousy

I was inspired by the "Unwanted" thread in the General Discussion board to design some "Introtech" LAMs that are stronger than the original trio of Phoenix Hawk, Stinger, and Wasp LAMs.  The main problem I see with these LAMs is that they're faster than they need to be.  I think they just need to be 5/8/5 at most, that way they can get the +3 defensive TH modifier for jumping and running.  AirMech mode multiplies the jump MP by 3 and calls that the cruse MP, and fighter mode makes the jump MP equal to safe thrust.  That means a 5/8/5 LAM
  • Moves 15/23 in airmech mode
  • Moves 5/8 in fighter mode
Both of which I think are acceptable.  I see airmech mode as a way to get the LAM around the battlefield quickly to good positions to inflict damage on the opfor.  Convert from airmech to 'mech in cover and jump into combat! 

The Phoenix Hawk LAM already goes 5/8/5, so I think that's okay.  I'm going to present a rework of a Stinger and Wasp variant first:

Any combat vehicle is constrained by the triangle of speed, armour and weapons. The LAM basically makes the triangle smaller than normal for its weight.

That means that you have to really specialise a LAM in order for it to be useful in a role. A generic/trooper type LAM is a recipe for disaster.

With this in mind, it is my opinion that there are two ways a LAM can be specialised for combat role (the electronic warfare and scout role is obvious, but is not really a factor in Introtech):
1. Mount the longest range weapon you can for the minimum weight and be a highly mobile and agile sniper.
2. Mount the heaviest damage alpha strike output you can (i.e., short-ranged weapons) and be a combat opportunist (i.e., dash in, unload into back, get out, wait for next opportunity).

For Role 1, you will typically be looking at a large laser or a PPC in Introtech.

For Role 2, multiple medium lasers or even small lasers and maybe SRM packs.

The problem with most stock LAMs is that they are trooper types. The Phoenix Hawk is a prime example. Either stick with just the large laser or trade it for more medium lasers. Having both is a waste of time. You can't use a LAM to hold the line or be involved in pitched combat, which is what trooper 'mechs do. Hit and fade with LAMs.

I like your triangle comparison.  I try to mitigate that by making the chassis at least 5 tons heavier.  So on a tonnage basis, the 'mech isn't going to be a match, but it gains flight capability in the process.

I'm going to show off a couple medium designs here at some point that'll hit a little harder than what we're used too.  It's a shame that there seems to be a general disdain for LAMs that prevents any truly effective canon variants from showing up.

Here are some house-flavored LAMs.  These are designed with ~3025 in mind.  The doctrine for deploying these LAMs is to launch them from space and have them land to secure a landing area for dropships.  Each of the houses have their own LAM designs to accomplish this.
