The funny part - it is a downward firing seat -- and my office is in the basement.

According to his blog it's B-104/2

That would hurt. But only for a split second. sm

B-104?  I though it was from a B-52 Bomber, they were known to have a double decker setup that had a ejection seat aiming down.   I remember a friend once telling me about terrible crash didn't favor downward ejection seats.

PsihoKekec's reply said a B-104/2, if you do the math you end up with B-52.

It's a B-52 - downward firing Electronic Warfare Operator's seat.

Where did I get it?  If you look hard enough on the internet, you can find anything.  In this case, a guy in Arizona who de-milled aircraft and salvaged parts.

since it appears that I cannot post to your blog for whatever reason (maybe it just doesn't like Opera) I'll post here.

You asked "what have I overlooked"

Well... how about The Enemy Below, The Caine Mutiny, and Mr. Roberts -- in that order? The progression is from Serious to Screwball -- I always like to end on a screwball comedy.

The first is so good every sci-fi (including trek) rips it off sooner or later.

Caine mutiny is a venture into the absurd, with stopoffs at irony and shame.

Which is great to follow up with probably the best USN screwball comedy ever. Mr. Roberts is one of the funniest movies made in the middle of a war -- and even the tragic ending brings a laugh with it.

Though my all-time favorite military moview is 100% absurd comedy, to blazes with reality.

"No Time for Sergeants" starring Andy Griffith. If you've never seen it, I highly suggest it.

Surprised at the lack of pacific theatre -- Tora Tora Tora, Midway, Naked and the Dead...

Admittedly, I'm not that big on the war in the Pacific myself -- Anything with Nazi's is funny. To quote a lady friend "Nuns are funny, they're like Nazi's that way." (to put that in context, she was referring to "the sound of music")

Moe: I want you to blow out your brains!
Nazi: But mein Fuhrer, we are Nazi's, we have no brains!
Moe: Well blow out whatever you've got then...

Oh... which reminds me... "Inside the Third Reich" - VASTLY underrated TV movie that made us all go "Wait.. You mean Rutger Hauer can ACT?!?" (in almost the same way Tombstone did for Val Kilmer).

Also happy to see "Cross of Iron" listed -- you are quite correct that it's often overlooked despite possibly being Pekinpah's best flick... of course I'm a huge fan of BOTH Schell and Coburn -- so it's automatically made of /WIN/
Death will take those who fight alone.
But united we can break a fate once set in stone.

"A Bridge to Far" Is one of those movies I watch every few months, the right amount of comedy, tragedy, and historical goodness makes it a great movie, heck they could have filmed with a bunch of no-name actors and it still would be great. Definatly not something they could make today.

You wrote this:

The Blue Max.  WWI aviation movies are rare.  This is one that has a decent plot and some wonderful flying scenes.   If I am writing WWI aviation stuff, this movie is a requirement to have on.

So I strongly recommend this:

Bah! They spoiled Master and Commander. They should've left the Midshipman Hollom story as in the book, where he's having an affair with the gunner's wife and ends where the Gunner catches them at it on a tropical island and kills them. The Jonah stuff instead was pants.

I heard that Flyboys was originally more accurate, but then they did some random screening, and the dumb audience complained about not seeing who the good and bad guys were, so they then went to painting all the germans in Red Baron red.

Don't know how true this is, though.
