New player - hi!

Hey all!

I discovered BattleTech through the HBS PC game last week and got hooked because of the gritty universe and rich lore. I have never played a tabletop game before or had any interest in painting miniatures, but I decided to take it on as a new hobby.

Joined a local BattleTech group on social media, and turns out some guys I went to highschool with 20 years ago play. Reconnected and we're going to play our first game on Thursday. They all play different factions, so I looked at what was available and I've decided to try to put together lances for the Gray Death Legion and the Death Commandos (CapCon).

Also bought the Gray Death Legion Saga Collector's Edition trilogy and a bunch of paints. Just a few days in and my wallet has already taken an Alpha Strike.

If you are looking to delve more deeply into BT lore, there is a sourcebook due out later this year called BattleTech Universe which might help in that regard. It's set to be a one-stop shop for anyone new to the setting, and/or for those who are returning to it after an extended time away.

And speaking of "alpha strikes": if you are looking for more minis to paint, the Alpha Strike Boxed Set includes 13 'Mechs to choose from - each of which can be used both for Alpha Strike and for "classic" BattleTech scale play. Indeed, while the box itself includes Unit Cards for use in AS play, each card has a matching Record Sheet available via a free download PDF from the BT website.

Sounds like a good start to the hobby and Universe, welcome aboard. This game really gets into the bloodstream after a while, in a good way I mean.

Enjoy yourself.
Camospecs is a great resource/inspiration for paints and paint schemes.
Don't let FOMO get you; there will be another Humble Bundle sale.

I'd like to add something here to that great list, you as the player control how fast or crazy this train ride of Battletech goes.
You do not need to just jump into it all if you don't feel like it. That's one of the great things about this game, it's like a buffet and you can tweak the experience how you like it.
