HPG Complex
« on: 29 September 2012, 21:54:01 »
Building a Star League HPG compound for a battle scenario. Basic structures are completed. Now they go into the painting que which is getting larger by the day but should get caught up over the holiday break.
I will update as they are done.  ;)

Those look great!  Care to share what you're using to build those?

A lot of the same stuff you do! Daily stuff I run across that I see differently.

Going from left to right in the pic:

4 drill sleeve halves of different length with some model sprues, a wire nut and a 4 way tie down.

Both the bulbous shaped buildings are old style child proof door handles. One inverted. Both have bottle caps on them. The far right one has a drill sleeve and both have sprues also.

The back 3 are all plastic electrical gang boxes. The mech hangar is a double, the round one is a ceiling fixture and the right one is a single gang box. The hangar just has a cut out on the side, some sprues, a wire nut and another tie down. The round one has sprues and a small part of a sleeve. The single gang box is the HPG. The addition of 3 sleeve halves, and some sprues give it depth. The dish is based with a champagne bottle top with the top half of a small gatorade bottle with its cap and a small plastic cap inside. Bonus on the use of the gatorade bottle....there are small lightning bolts on the sides of the dish that SCREAM out to be highlighted!

The center round building is a pill bottle with it's bottom filled with glue to level off the top and several small tidbits of stuff and some sprues added. The round sprue in the center will look great with the Star League symbol inside of it. I may do another of these and make them gate keppers of a sort at the entrance to the compound.

Made the decision to go with minimal detail on the buildings as there are over 60+ minis waiting to be painted but they still look pretty good for only a few hours worth of work into them.

Well done, looks great!  How did you do the garage-style doors?

Thanks!

Doors were just printed them out and applied. Did them on photo paper at first but they looked "to good" to match the buildings so I did a print on regular paper and they blended better.

Blended is a good word.  The photo isn't crystal-clear, but the doors certainly look like they fit very well.

Tried to sleep in this morning but that did not happen so I watched some F1 qualifying and built a few more buildings. Base colors applied and waiting for details.

Buildings done except for the 2 small rectangular ones which will get windows applied to them when I find a design I like. Sealed them all up along with a batch of minis.

I have the basic scenario laid out on two tables.

As you can see there is a company of mercs guarding the HPG complex and an over sized company attacking.

The river is a depth of 6 so the bridge is the only way in/out for any non jump unit.

7 pics below and more to come.

Still to do:

Paint all tree bases

Detail all rock formations further. Only base colors on now

Paint and detail the concrete fortification (round white things)

Add removable weapons, like turrets with missile launchers and energy weapons - Can adjust amount with the size of the defending force for balance

Add foundations to bridge

Layout and paint a city foundation

Make some road

But seriously, that's a good looking table.

.....

LMAO! They really do look like marshmallows huh?  :D Those will be sculpted into small bunkers and detailed with weaponry.
