How did I get a Minirauder from a Hollander II??

I was fiddling with the idea of swapping out the AC for multiple LPPCs and more heat sinks and another laser, and then noticed if I shifted things a bit, rather than keep the LPPCs all in one arm, it started looking very similar to a rather famous design.

Then things got a bit funky. I blame Pharoah Beer.

Anyways...

One relatively simple swap would be to yank the Magshots & ammo, drop in CASE, two Mguns, and a half ton of ammo.

I originally was going to do just that as the main design, but I really don't like dealing with Mgun ammo cook-offs, even with CASE, and the 'ow, I got a papercut' damage from either Magshot going boom is something I'm much more comfortable with.

Effectively, this is a Miniature version of either a Marauder IIC or Marauder II, depending on your view, considering it's loadout. The second variant below the main one is the mini-version of the classic Marauder loadout, which yanks out the Magshots, swaps the lasers back to standard mediums, and gives it a RAC/2 and a double bin of ammo. Technically its a damage upgrade by exactly 1 point over the main model, but I also had to chuck two DHS. That and going from mid-grade hole punchers to a spread. So opinions may vary.

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

I considered maxing the JJs, but I've rarely run into situations where I need five. Generally it's either 3, 4, or 6+ hexes, and not much between. Or if there is, there's another way around that worked better. And at least this way, unless I'm using the Magshots, I can come very close to firing forever and a day while laughing at the heat scale.

Oh, I know.

Its just that, like I said, I -personally- rarely ever really run into situations where I need to jump a full 5 hexes. Its usually 3, to get over/on top of a building, or a situation where it's best to play a light mech that is the next best thing to superman with 7+ hexes of jump range.

And since keeping the DHS means I can spam the LPPCs & XPLs indefinitely, I figure its a fair trade. Although your idea being a field refit is likely to be a very common one, I'd say.

Here's my take on this Hollander-based MiniRauder. I didn't even to change engines to make it work. It's a bit more reminiscent of the original Marauder, but using more modern weapons. A LAC/5 with two tons of specialty ammo (or you can mix and match) and a pair each of LPPCs and ER mediums. I did a full set of jump jets, as well.

Nice variant, though I'd probably tweak the armor a little.  The arms are just begging for an AC/20 to rip them off.

It has 143 out of a possible 153 armor points which is significantly more than the original 107
