==Overview:==
     Weapons Carrier is general term for AFVs that are typically slow and
lightly armored but heavily armed. While 60 ton tracked missile carriers,
first introduced in Age of War, are best known, many others exist in great
variety of mass and motive types. One of such is generally known as Light
Weapons Carrier.

==Capabilities:==
     Great majority of Light Weapons Carriers are ICE-powered wheeled vehicles
of 30 tons mass. Many factories producing these vehicles use same chassis for
great variety of engine sizes, weapon loadouts and other equipment. Whether
vehicle is armed with autocannons, missile batteries or even PPC, hull and, in
many cases, armor protection are identical.

==Variants:==
     Most typical weapons carriers are armed with autocannons, missiles, or
combination of both. PPC and laser weapons exist, but in much smaller
numbers.
     Light PPC Carrier is armed only with the PPC. Mass of that weapon and
associated support equipment are so heavy that turret is open topped and
without armor. Yet for many forces this is best PPC armed vehicle they can
hope to have.

==Deployment==
     Primary users of light weapons carriers are militia and garrison forces.
These vehicles also see service among poorer line regiments and mercenary
forces. Becouse of their low mass, these vehicles are also used in airmobile
forces where they are carried by Karnov UR Transport.

Not too bad for a weapons carrier.   Fun supplemental vehicle honestly for some custom designs I have tossed about.  Interesting to see similar concepts and where they diverge.

...but sometimes making sure you turn their ace into red paste is more important than friends.

This is one thing Battletech is missing, more 'generic' vehicles that you could find just about anywhere.  I've designed several vees like these (though lighter and less heavily armed) myself.

This is one thing Battletech is missing, more 'generic' vehicles that you could find just about anywhere.
APCs should count among those. Like in real life, many are heavily armed with expense of troop carrying capacity, like this.

Inspired by discussion about AC/2 and artillery, I dig this up with a new self-propelled Thumper. No turret and armor distribution is different from others, but otherwise should be the same.

If you are in need of a bigger gun, Hetzer can replace its AC/20 with Sniper, though that also requires engine downgrade. You may want some Combat Cars for spotters. With these assets (and LRM Carrier with Long Tom swap), you can build self-propelled artillery regiments for militia to show middle finger against anything lacking with mobility.

Overview:
   Introduced as a stopgap or quickly manufactured support vehicle, the
Gauntlet Light Weapons Carrier was designed to be cheap, efficient, and
produced by a company that had better quality control than Quikscell.   In this
case, that company was Dargon Enterprises, a company started by executives from
nearby Imperator Automatic Weaponry.   The executives saw a need for such light
armored combat vehicles that could provide support for larger, more important
vehicles or 'Mechs.   In this case, providing long-range light direct-fire
artillery support as well as air-defense artillery.   The overall development
of the vehicle was very brief, and the resulting vehicle was able to be rolled
off the production lines in less than a hundred days.


Capabilities:
   The Gauntlet was not designed to be a front-line combatant but rather a
support vehicle designed around the turret-mounted Imperator Smoothie-2
autocannons.   With a long range and accuracy, the Smoothie-2 is able to
harrass targets at long range as well as engage airborne targets.   To that
purpose, the Gauntlet was given minimal armor protection as well as a slow
speed.   The vehicle also has four deployable support posts to help stabilize
the vehicle for air-defense duties, and the autocannons are gyroscopically
stabilized to engage ground targets at long range.
   The Gautlet does have some self-defense weapons mounted.   The Holly SRM
launcher poses little threat to 'Mechs unless loaded with Inferno rounds, but
is very effective at engaging light armored vehicles.   The LFN Linfblad
machine gun is very effective at defeating unarmored infantry,The weapons
provide some self-defense capability if a Gauntlet is found by enemy scouts or
infantry.
   The electronics are inexpensive, and focused on supporting the needs of the
primary duties for the vehicle.   In particular, the Victrix communications
system allows for a platoon of Gauntlet vehicles to be linked by cables into a
cohesive fixed emplacement that can engage a given target as one by slaving the
autocannons to the lance commander.   The GSTrac is designed to allow a
Gauntlet to switch between engaging ground targets to an air-defense mode
better optimized for that role.


Deployment:
   The Gauntlet is widely seen organized into dedicated support units for the
armored forces of the Free Worlds League.   The very low cost of the vehicles
have also made them valued by smaller mercenary units in need of some kind of
armored combat vehicle.


Variants:
   The Gauntlet is designed to be easily modified, and one of the most common
variants involves replacing the two autocannons with a single Kali Yama Type V
LRM launcher.   This variant also has an extra ton of ammunition for the
launcher added and operates as a light missile support vehicle.   Another
variant replaces the autocannons with three SureShot Mk VI SRM launchers.   
While not as common due to the lack of range of the launchers and lack of heavy
armor, the SRM-armed Gauntlet provides a heavy short range punch at a
relatively low cost.

Here's my idea for a light weapons carrier.
Not much different from my Light Autocannon Carrier (3), just tad slower with SRM 2. Vehicle units are more often called platoon instead lance. Did you use some program to make it? I have HeavyMetal Vee V2.21 R03

I used to use Heavy Metal Vee, but it hasn't been updated in almost 10 years, so I switched to Solaris Armor Works, which is much more recent.   It's free to use, as well.   Not quite as intuitive as HMV, so it takes a bit to get used to.   Here's the link to their website if you want to give it a look.

SAW comes with Solaris Skunk Werks (SSW, which does 'mechs), so (as I recall), there's no independent SAW download on their site.  I use both exclusively.  I prefer 3025, so they pretty much do everything I want (the sole exception is not having Fractional Accounting fully implemented, but I can tweak the text easily enough).
