AU EQUIPMENT OVERVIEW
- Trimmed Fusion Engine (Vee):
Halfway between a Standard and a Light Engine, for all intents and purposes. 1/8 lighter,
but uses one equipment slot.
- Semi-Ferro Armor (Vee):
A partially-successful attempt to work towards Ferro-Fibrous armor without the benefit
of Star League metallurgy data. 2 slots, multiplies armor value by 1.06.
- Heavy Assault Missiles
Thunderbolt/ATM-esque missiles that fire in groups of 1 through 4 missiles. Long-Range,
Standard, and (dumbfire) Short-Range ammo are usable, with 4/6/8 damage per missile
depending on type, and a +1 to-hit penalty to the Short-Range ammo due to lack of
guidance systems. Artemis-compatible and Narc-compatible ammo are available for LR
and Standard.
- IS Heavy Lasers: 50% more damage, 75% more heat, +0/1/2(3) to-hit penalty
per range bracket. Can be powered down to act exactly like standard IS lasers if
desired.

Dun: The Capellan Civil War put a sudden halt to the development cycle of Aldis Industries' planned Zhukov tank, as Betelgeuse was a major target for both pro-Tormano and pro-Romano forces. What hurt Aldis' plans, however, was not Liao infighting, but a major Marik raid that took place in 3027 when Warrior House Kamata was moved away from the world to retake Teng. The battle between the League raiders and the relatively inexperienced Rivaldi's Hussars wound up crippling a large section of Aldis' factory in a freak explosion.
Unable to mass-produce the Zhukov themselves, Aldis licensed the design to Ceres Industries, and then sold the plans outright in 3035 to gain investment money for full rebuilding. (Oriente Weapon Works also produces a knockoff of the Zhukov based on the stolen prototype blueprints. The resulting legal fight has, predictably, gone nowhere.) Over the years since that sale, Ceres has been working on an updated tank in the same weight category, using an updated chassis and the common Trimmed 225 fusion engine. A major redesign to the turret has led to the laser- and missile-armed Dun, or "Shield".
The latest production variant of the Dun uses paired Artemis-enhanced Heavy Assault Missile launchers for accurate firepower. A standard large laser and a heavy small laser are also turret-mounted, ably using the engine's heat dissipation to the tank's benefit, and are joined by a coaxial machine gun. Another pair of machine guns guard the front and rear of the tank.
The main issue with the Dun's armament is that it simply doesn't carry enough ammunition for longer campaigns, particularly for the HAM launchers. On a petroleum-powered tank, that would be forgivable, but it negates one of the main advantages of using a fusion engine on a tank in the first place by forcing the Dun to stay near supply lines or risk having to defend itself with nothing but its turret lasers.
The good news is that Ceres' tank is quite tough, with just under fourteen tons of Semi-Ferro plating keeping it well protected. The missile launchers are also fairly easy to replace with other weapons, though the ammunition feeds are another matter.
Over the years, Confederated Suns manufacturers and units have produced a fairly wide variety of variants for the Dun. The original Dun mounted standard LRM-20 launchers without Artemis, and had better ammo longevity as a result; the fact that this earlier variant is not publicly considered the "default" can be chalked up to a series of embarrassing losses to zhanzheng de guang ambushes during 3039 and 3040, led by the fanatically anti-Davion Kamakura's Hussars. The visibility of several captured Duns in rebel colors was a major irritation to Ceres' executives and depressed sales for almost a decade.
MRM-30 launchers were easy to put in place of the LRMs, leading to a much more capable midrange combatant that is less vulnerable to such short-range ambushes. Another variant replaces the missiles with quad-mounted Snub AC/5 cannons, producing an ersatz anti-air tank in the vein of the Partisan. These cannon-armed tanks are much more common in the Davion half of the conjoined realm. In a bit of irony, Aldis has licensed the design for production as well, and Duns and Zhukovs roll off the assembly lines on Betelgeuse side-by-side.
