Mitchel Calderon gets a vision of the future.
« on: 24 June 2019, 00:32:50 »
So, 15 years before he becomes protector, Mitchel Calderon gets a vision of what will happen, up until say, 3025.

How can he save the Concordat?   Let's assume that no technical knowledge makes the leap, nor does he have some magical power to ignore other political positions.
But he knows that the reunification wars are coming, and the full weight of the inner sphere may fall upon the concordat.

How does he avoid the war, or if not, best prepare his nation to survive it?

Also, yes, I'm thinking of writing an FF so I'm interested in brainstorming.

How does he avoid the damage done to the TC during the RW war. Make sure his successors get in good with the Star League instead of rebuffing them at every turn. Failing that, make sure he makes the MoC his ally and make sure that both nations are armed to the teeth and make the Reunification even bloodier for the Star League than it was in the original timeline.

I can't help but think this is an exercise in futility. They were never going to get the equal treatment they deserved. What's more the Star League were already circulating propaganda against them even before initiating negotiations.
Bear in mind, the TC of this time was an industrial and military powerhouse, capable of taking on any two Star League member states as long as the TH was not involved.
Then there's the dangerous attitude taken by the SLDF high command, being often free with atrocities towards Periphery denizens. This indicates a glaring low perception of Periphery denizens as a whole to the point of dehumanisation.

What Mitchell should do is upon the success of Case Amber seize the initiative and never let go. Conduct offensive operations in Fed Suns space so that battles are fought there rather than over his worlds.

Then as a back up, set up hidden memory cores, updating it with every piece of technology captured during the course of the War, to be opened once the Star League fell.

Depending on how much time he has, wouldn't heavily intertwining the Bull's economy with the FedSuns short circuit any invasion? Encouraging heavy investments with the FedSuns in both directions in order to bind their economies & possibly cultures together would be ideal. Having a defense pact with the FedSuns against Combine/Capellan aggression also helps. It would make the Davions less likely to turn against the Bulls when the Camerons come waving their Terran superiority under their noses.

I'd say a combination of the above is the most reasonable.

A diplomatic outreach towards the FedSuns sounds most reasonable. This way the TC can grow both economically and militarily - and they might get an ally on the SL Council. Given the success of these diplomatic approaches they might even secure covert support like e. g. the OA did with the Pitcairn Legion.

But for when the shoe will - and it unavoidably will - drop they need to be prepared via the memory cores. But one thing that is to be made very clear is that keeping that technological  knowledge secret and redundant - and (again) secret - is imperative. Otherwise they'll paint a huge bullseye on their entire realm during the Succession Wars.

Another thing to do is to approach the Magistracy of Canopus. That way both the TC and the MoC can grow. Those two nations joining in an alliance lets them grow stronger and do so faster.

That might work.
If any defense pact is to include Combine aggression, then he'd have to rope in and prop up the OA as well. TC and DC don't have shared borders. The CC on the other hand is on its most reasonable for centuries at this time, so he might also reach out for a limited relationship.

Steal a march on the  Cameron's
Call for the " League of Stellar Nations "
Economic, tech,  military , and diplomatic carrots and boost your own military stick.
Data core into time capsules on every planet, or into basement of every library,  and allow citizens to download as much as they want. Allow other nations to buy tech for nominal fee in order to get the IS looking to the Bulls for tech transfer, vs Crazy Cameron's technology store.
Distribution among the fish in the sea, info so common  it is impossible to eradicate.  Call it the colonial educational bootstrap program. In the thousands of data cores have ones that are more than they seem to be held by trusted agents, hidden in plain site.

Possibly distribute a variation to Fedsuns outback as a gesture of goodwill,  and offer bilateral deal with Fedsuns, trade, tech, along with a non aggression pact.
Offer the same or variations to MoC, and other neighbors, based on relative goodwill.
For non neighbors set up traveling circus to sell education bootstrap programs to everyone "for the children" base it in the heart of the Cameron's Hegemony to better reach everyone that may need it.
Time to send lots of Bulls to study in the cradle of humanity. Need as many legal and illegal bodies as possible on Terra, near Terra. So when the Bulls are attacked you can go after the soft underbelly of the Star league. Total coincidence that the Jumbo DS became a dirt dart and hit the Camerons annual Christmas party. The Hegemony needs to feel threatened, and understand retribution for attacks against the peace loving Bulls.

Start colonizing further out looking for a system to build a black site for ships, and mechs etc....
Plus a few Arc systems to fall back to seeded with tech vaults maybe moth balled older industry old tech but combined with data vaults knowledge to make the tools to make the tools.
Offensive options
Random space rocks with a rocket pack to launch towards enemy flotilla,  and a nuke to shotgun at a jump point. Use this to protect your jump point but also jump into enemy Jump point of systems with lots of commercial activity.  Passive commerce raiding, (if you can set it up like a RL maritime mine that attacks random ships,  or when a certain number of ships are detected).
Attack trade, Why did no one notice the Taurean shell companies that bought up the hydrogen hauler drop ship companies which just all happen to be parcked at Jump point recharge stations in the Hegemony when they all exploded,( give a warning to evacuate civilians and cause frustration and lack of trust of the Camerons). Who needs nukes when you have Aqueduct DS full of hydrogen? Massive shift to police internal trade , and inspection of all foreign flagged commerce.
A virus in DS computers to fire thrusters at max when DS is docking with stations or Jump ships.
DS parts or computers recovered from pirates sold on open market in Hegemony space , or returned to corporate haulers who lost a jump ship/DS, with viruses added to parts.

I'd say that one thing he'd want to avid would be anything that might frighten the Hegemony--remember, they are more than capable, whatever damage the TDF can do to them, of blasting every world in the Concordat to the stone age. A conflict that escalates to a war to the knife only goes one way for the Concordat, and "we blasted terra" is cold comfort when the impactors are on their way to Taurus.

True but the Hegemony has to know not just be told attacks that violate Ares conventions will be met with an appropriate response.
After the first attack on Bull territory a DS loaded with  iron asteroid mining tailings nerfs into 5 or 6 Hegemony military bases/ship yards, all fair military targets for reprisals.

In war, deception is the key. Have the Bulls frame the Combine, Lyrans or Rimmers for any shenanigans they might engage in. Mess with the communiques between the Camerons & any system lords. The more miscommunications between Terra & the rest of the IS, the better for the Bulls.

No, the proper way to do this is to remember that nobody liked the TH, but it was strong enough to discourage the other Houses when they each also had to worry about one another.  Since you know ahead of time that the Reunification War is inevitable with an intact Hegemony.  The proper way is to engage in every possible shenanigan to turn every single House against the Hegemony before the Hegemony turns them on you.  Mess with communications, frame the Hegemony for everything from cheating at cards to abducting their citizens for human experimentation.  Everybody already hates the Hegemony but are too concerned with each other to turn against it en masse.  Push them over that line where they can't NOT attack the Hegemony.

While you're doing that obviously spread full read-only datacores by the tens of thousands all over the place with no security on them.  Plant secret colonies out in the black under strict emcon-protocols.  Make alliances, etc.  But those are fallbacks for if you can't get the Five Houses to drag the Hegemony down themselves like a pack of wolves on a bear.

Might be more than the Bulls can pull off. Their foreign affairs department isn't exactly known for their ability to manage other nations.

The wonderful thing about that tactic is that you don't have to actually manage anyone.  You just make sure a bunch of stuff happens that will really piss off everybody with the Hegemony's fingerprints on it.  This isn't carefully managed diplomacy, it's the joker laughing as he watches everything descend into anarchy.  Basically you don't have to be perfect, it's the Inner Sphere everybody already spends their spare time sharpening the knives.  Just give them an excuse they can't pass up and before you know it either everybody is turning on the Hegemony or each other.  Or both.  And while that's happening they aren't invading the Taurians en masse.  Plus the pure chaos means that if the Taurians do decide some key planets in the Hegemony and elsewhere need to have a "rock falls everybody dies" moment all involved are too busy with each other to stop and be rational instead of just lashing out even more against their existing enemies.

Which is no different from what happened in the current timeline, so you are in an overall bette position than you were historically.

I would also marry a Davion heiress. The Taurian Suns are born.
