Design challenge: Airmobile, svelt battlemech

Your sovereign has put out a design request for a new airmobile battlemech.

The requirements are thus:
1) The mech cannot mass more than 45 tons fully loaded (including any handheld weapons you decide to have it carry). This is the maximum load capacity of the heavy-lift VTOLs currently available.

2) The mech must be jump capable, and suited to general service operations in a wide variety of tactical settings.

3) The mech must be designed with an eye for mass production. There are no technologicial limitations on what is available (save that inner sphere tech only is permitted), but you should keep an eye on what is widely available and avoid any particularly rare systems.

4) The mech must be designed with an eye for compactness, with the intention of doubling up on mech bay space on a dropship. In addition to receiving the narrow/low profile and compact mech design quirks,  I'm imposing an additional restriction. The design must have twenty five free critical slots when all the designing is done. (I know this isn't actually a requirement for the compact mech quirk, but I'm imposing the restriction anyway).
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Let's try this:

The Gopher.
All early 3050s tech: 45 tons, 5/8/5 movement via XLFE, 88% armor, CASE, double heat sinks. Armament consist of twin MPLs, twin Flamers, ERLL and LRM-10 with two tons of ammo so it has range, anti-infantry and anti-scout capabilities.

In order to make the 'Mech sufficiently compact arms were omitted and the 'Mech's torso is rather cramped, as such the cockpit is small as well. On the positive note, the 'Mech is equipped with advanced communications suite based on recovered Star League designs, indeed this was necessary to fit a radio into the 'Mech's cockpit...

I've got almost everything I wanted on a 30 ton quad: Two ER Mediums, Guardian ECM, Beagle Active Probe, 6/9/4 (w/compact engine, composite structure, and extra-light gyro, SHS) .... but it works out to be 23 open crits....

The Sheridan, made from a modified Blackjack chassis. It gives up a bit of range for increased medium-range firepower and the versatility of an LB-X and LRMs, and incorporates CASE at the cost of a small amount of armor.

A later version would likely use Endo-Composite structure to beef up the armor protection, but no advanced materials available immediately post-Helm would fit the free space requirement.

Yeah, I was thinking a quad as well....can easily stack them one on top of another.  We did it many times in games.  Makes loading/unloading more time consuming (RPG wise), but you can fit two lances where you would normally fit one.  The crit requirement kills it.  Still going to attempt it though.

Managed to make it work on a Quad.

The idea here is, take a Scorpion, scale it down so that you can fit two of them inside a Planetlifter. Had to use compact heatsinks and gyros to make it work, but it fits!

Hmm...
I know it goes a bit off the rails and borders on breaking the rules but, for an airmobile trooper mech, wouldn't pre-packed hand-held weapon packs be a better option?
That way a commander could still deploy a company sized unit via airmobile steeds and still keep a decent (if limited in number of shots) bit of flexibility of specialist weapon options.

Why paired ER smalls and not a single Small Pulse? Better at anti-personnel work and less heat too. Your PPC is ER so you don't need a weapon to bridge minimum range.

No real reason.  A small pulse would be fine.  Was just thinking of aesthetics....one on each side torso.....kinda like fangs....

The Hiragana has been designed with the intent of having some capability against all comers.  As a primary role the Hiragana plays as Skirmish/Sniper, the Improved Jump Jets provide an enviable mobility making it a very hard mech to close with on almost any terrain while the reach of the ER PPC and the narrow profile give the Hiragana an edge against the vast majority of opponents when trading long range fire. 

When things get up close and personal the Hiragana is designed to be able to throw accurate punches into the mix without ever missing a shot from it's main gun making it a surprisingly effective brawler.  A pair of ER Flamers can kick in alongside where necessary but they do push the heat balance - their main purpose is in allowing a Hiragana to operate as a highly effective anti-infantry platform when the need arises

The Hiragana has gotten a bit of a reputation as a death trap with a faulty cooling system that occasionally bursts into flames.  The rumours are totally unfounded of course, I think most mech jockeys just tend to get nervous around a machine that doesn't have an ejection system.

I'll fluff this once I get home and can find the right people to build it. I originally got the idea of a Rasalhague pilot receiving as one of those AA "gifts" and being a former but competent panther pilot salvaged much from a panther to repair it, and from that point kept it well. This thread was a good place for it as well for a 3060s second line unit. Fits your request, cheap, and has the right feel for something a company could produce in mass out of shelf parts while working on newer and better for frontline/high paying customers.

Actually, that's a great point.

What is available, and when?

I made the Omnimech in question to be 3050's tech with a TC without having any clear guidelines.

Some further information might make this easier.
