At least on Solaris you can take your 'mech to the Mech-It-Lube down the street instead of having to pay a staff full time wages.

Very interesting!

I wonder if any of the special armor types would be worth it from a cost perspective on Solaris VII.  Maybe stealth armor if it prevented enough hits to offset the cost of the armor?

Maybe, though again Solaris is usually about staging even-ish fights, so the ablative thing will eventually catch up to you even with something like Stealth.

I think expensive armors make more sense "in-universe" outside of Solaris (and most IRL gaming tables) where uneven contests can happen (and are strategically desired) and you can win while minimizing armor ablation.

That or you need to get a deal with the armor manufacturer to sponsor your mech.

Stealth armor on Solaris?  So the audience can't see you?

OK, a Battletech game where you're a mercenary or Solaris jock and half the game is careful negotiation of your contract would be pretty funny.

Maybe not fun but funny.

Contract negotiation is a game unto itself... ;D

about ten years ago me and a friend started putting together a boardgame where you were playing as a HR employee and the goal was to recruit the best people for your company... Never got very far, but making a game about negotiations isn't all that far fetched. Probably quite hard to actually make fun, thought...

Lots of games are built around negotiation... Diplomacy, Civilization (the boardgame, not Sid Meier's stuff)...

Well, in those games you negotiate what you'll do with the actual game mechanics (e.g. I'll move here if you'll move there). But a game where the negotiations are the game mechanics?

"I'll play a +3 extra vacation days, now I'm at +9!"
"Oh no you don't, this bad coffee is a -2. You're still one short!"

That could be interesting, where offering more vacation days means you are more likely to get an employee but you are also reducing the number of days that they work.

That depends on the degree to which the game tracks employee morale as it relates to productivity.
