Arise, thread, you aren't dead just yet!

Are you hunting moose in grizzly country?  Would you like to take one down from over a thousand meters?  Then brother, have I got the gun for you!

Hunting moose is easy. Just lead them back to your pickup and get them to lie down in the bed.

I think that's only useful for game if you're hunting at Jurassic Park

Nah, haven't you seen the movies? The first people to die are those who actually prepared and brought proper weaponry.

Was trying to shoot my 45-70 standing simulating a defensive situation last week.  I am pretty sure that if anything was charging me, it would be filling the scope glass before I managed to squeeze a shot off.  I seem to be much better with my 10mm backpacking pistol.

No personal experience, but I’ve been told they are rough on brass, if you like to reload your cases. Other than that, can’t say I’ve heard much good or bad about them.

Had one years ago .
It's NOT an HK-91 .

It's been a while -but IIRC my bolt gap went out of spec pretty quickly
and a visible creas could be seen on the receiver .
I got a set of +2 rollers and brought the bolt gap back into spec ,
and it went back out of spec again WAY before it should .

The manufacturer told me it was safe and to just shoot it-
I said NO thank you .  I contacted the original seller and was refunded .
The seller said they'd work something out with the manufacturer themselves
or they wouldn't stock their product anymore .

BTW-my PTR's recoil was WAY heavier then my uncle's HK-91 ,
and the coating was like thick wavy spray paint .

I used my refund to get an FAL and never looked back .

( Then .308 surplus dried up and now I shoot ARs )

From what i have been able to find, there were some issues at the start, then some issues when they ran out of surplus parts.

I wish SiG (or, should I say SjG?) put these into mass production back in the day. I would love to own a copy. The Swiss were master craftsman, bordering on artists. I bet the recoil-impulse on this rifle is absolutely fantastic! I'd love to put a few rounds though one. Get a load of that trigger assembly, though!... o.O

Anyone have a cool 35g's I can borrow??

It's true. And, I've sold/traded many a firearm after getting board.
Never been the case with my partial Swiss parts SiG 556s.
I've even thought about trading my XCR-L for another.

Just got my Ruger SR1911 in 10mm back from Ruger.  Would love to try it out this weekend, but there is 8" of snow on the way! :(

I don’t see the problem? 10mm will go through 8” of snow, easy! Heck, it will go through 8” of a LOT of things!

How do you like that Ruger 1911? I’ve been eyeing one in 45, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, pardon the pun.

Back from Ruger?

I've actually been thoroughly impressed with my Ruger 1911 in .45.
It's the commander length. Fit and finish is excellent. Shoots very well...
Only had it out twice, but I am very happy with the purchase.
Looking forward to your report on the 10mm model Crossfire.

I like the Ruger, I shoot very will with 1911s (or used to anyway, the last time I owned one was a dozen years ago or more). I wanted a 1911 in 10mm because I thought it would fill my 10mm desire and 1911 desire.  The problem that I was facing was that this particular implementation was dropping the mag in the middle of firing, or even when racking the slide.  I sent it in for some trouble shooting and they had it back in my hot little hands within 10 days.  Which is awesome.  Some test manipulation of the slide doesn't show the same problem as before. So hopefully it just needed a new mag release button assembly.

The biggest problem I have is what I call my $100 Nickel problem.  When I get the plane jane out of the box model ie, a springfield XD.  I shoot very well with it.  When I step up and get the 2x as much competition model...I might as well be shooting with a shotgun.  And that has been the case with my first two times out with this 1911.  I cant seem to get a good pattern going.  Where as with my 10mm EAA Witness (which has seen its fair share of rough use) I can do a mag dump and get them all in a 14" circle at 25 yards.  Maybe its a twist on the old adage/slight "some people aren't meant to have nice things"

I had a very nice Dan Wesson bobtail .45. It was beautiful and felt great in my hand...until I went to shoot it. Something about the particular grip safety would push on a nerve in my hand when I fired it and make my hand go numb! I sold it on, and have been eyeballing other 1911s ever since. I don't exactly miss it, since it sucked to shoot, but I do still have a 1911-sized hole in my heart that I'd like to fill!

I generally like Ruger products...or at least I respect them, and since I don't really want to drop over a grand on a 1911, the price looks right. I'm not sure I would step up to a 10mm, but a bog-standard 5" barrel version in .45 sounds mighty tempting.

This pair of tens will beat a full house (couldnt ignore the pun).

Anyway one of these costs 400 and the other 800.  Guess which i shoot better with?

Sold to the guy with the mustache!

And when it all comes down to it.  That EAA probably isnt a bad camping gun.  I dont mind if it gets worn and abused.  Yet I did recently prove I can draw quickly and put 10 in a 14" Target on rapid fire.  Just in case something up north wants to turn me into dinner.

I can grow enough of a mustache to make it look like I belong in 70s... well y'all fill in the blank.  not exactly a redeeming quality. Keeping it clean...shaven.

Anyway hopefully will get the tens out in the next couple weeks.

Setting up the reloading bench in the new garage and ordered some stuff. Hope to load up some 10s, 45-70s, and 357 soon.

Doesnt seem to pay lately to try and load anything else.  I cant reload as cheap as i can buy a box of 9s for these days.

Never thought much of milled Aks until I held an SLR-95. It ended up following me home... "stalker!"
Now, to get rid of that horrendous thumb-hole stock. It looks fine, to me, but unlike other thumb-hole
stocks it feels in-hand as though it was designed for some alien race. I mean; who has hands that
this fits, and feels close to comfortable in??

it shouldn't be too terribly hard to find a replacement stock /set that will fit.  The aftermarket for AK-clones is rich and varied..

Saw a great deal on 5.56 FMJ at Gander Outdoor, the Gander Mtn replacement, a few weeks back and ordered a case, they sent me an entire case of Green tips by mistake LOL. Should be good for the apocalypse, though I cannot shoot the stuff at any range.

I've seen a lot of Green Tip stuff lately, Almost all the stuff advertised as FMJ is the green tip.  luckily I can plink with it at my range.  though I am saving that for the zombies anyway.
