Converting BA Tube Artillery to Heavy Weapon Class
« on: 12 March 2019, 20:31:47 »
BA Tube Artillery, stats are in Tactical Operations, is the best representation of a real world heavy mortar (120 mm range with auto loader) in BT, in my opinion. BA tube artillery has the range, it's an area effect weapon and it's relatively light at 500 kg, less ammo.

It also ranks high on my list of cheap, low tech, no-brainer weapons for BT that should have been in the game from the beginning, like rocket launchers. But I digress.

I have scaled up as a heavy weapon to mount on vehicles to provide artillery support for infantry. Most BA scale weapons scale up to heavy class with a multiplier of around 3 or 4.

So what do you think a scaled up to heavy weapons class, BA tube artillery should weight?

I think 2.0 tons but I'd like input from others.

It's been a rough week, or I probably would have seen this sooner.  I did a thread a while back on infantry mortars (which you commented on), but I think it needs more work.  Here, I voted for three tons mainly for game balance reasons.  The thing has a radius (incidentally the same as the 120mm mortar I statted out for infantry).

Real world, I think it was the Swedes that experimented with a dual tube turret mounted system.  I'm not sure why it didn't seem to go anywhere...

AMOS?  Cost, Complexity, Weight.

It's a shame though, I like that system and the idea of it myself.  Even have a home-brew weapon based on it.

I voted 1 ton. Looking around wiki, with auto loaders, mounting equipment, etc. 1 ton seems about right. It'd also give room for lighter and heavier Mortars.

I think scaled up BA tube artillery is the BT Amos, single barrel of course.

Yep, AMOS was what I had in mind.

Wiki lists AMOS at nearly 4.5 tons. I guess that'd make it an IS Mech Mortar/2?
