My rear brakes were about $245 for new high perfomance rotors and and pads installed.

What kind of car is this?

2006 GTO.  So, yes,  it is a performance vehicle.

Going to look at a 1993 Ram Charger tomorrow - it's been wrecked, but I'm looking to put the drive train in my 75 Trail Duster

Knock it all you want, but Chevy has done masterful things with small blocks.  But just the same, then put a 429 in a Pinto, and before it explodes it will top 90 mph.

Okay. Someone explain this to me. What does small block mean? I hear it all the time.

Small blocks, typically, are under 400 cubic inches V8 that have a smaller size than their big block cousins.

Small block:

Big block:

And the references I was making to the small block chevys pertains to the fact that one powers the new corvettes.  The ones that pump out 600+ horses.

Size of the block limits usage.  I cannot drop a 454 c.i. big block in a small car without major mods.  However, and small block requires less mods and less shoe-horning, usuallly.

Most manufactures used to have two V8 engines.  The smaller one would be used in intermediate sized cars and the bigger one in full size cars and trucks.  It was just easier for most people to call them out as small block and big block rather than their call out.

Today manufactures have engine series and don't refer to big or small block but things like LT vs LS series.

The big blocks, for the most part, went the way of the dodo.  Stringent EPA regulations and the death of the muscle cars during the 70 and 80 high gas prices made gas guzzling big blocks unattractive to consumers and manufacturers.

Yet we saw the return of big engine sizes.

Dodge has a 6.4L Hemi and the diesel is 6.7L - both pretty darn big
