==Overview:==
While the first upgraded Feral battlecruiser was the CCS Howling the design was first commissioned by Khan Vladimir Ward upon ascending to the Khanship of Clan (Jade) Wolf in 3058. With the lack of heavy warships under his command when the Wolf Exiles fled to the Inner Sphere with the McKenna Werewolf he needed more power projection for his Clan. Khan Ward along with Khans Malavai Fletcher of the Hell's Horses and Khan Sullivan Koga of the Coyotes tasked their scientists with redesigning their Sovetskii Soyuz cruisers to compete with Black Lions in a potential future war using the damaged Blood Drinker as a model to base their designs upon. Clan Wolf ultimately missed out on upgrading the Dire Wolf first choosing instead to bring the former Mongoose Flagship, the Du Shi Wang SLS Quicksilver Mongoose into service first.
The CCS Howling left the Kirin Orbital Assembly Yards in 3063, WIS Dire Wolf left the Tamar Orbital Yard in 3065 and CTS Thunderbird was released from Kirin in 3067 just in time for the Wars of Sundering that wrecked the Homeworlds. The Thunderbird and its sister ships protected the Homeworld Horse capital throughout the War and survived to serve as the Flagship for the new Clan Thunderbird under Khan Magnus Delvillar. Both the WIS Dire Wolf and CCS Howling were destroyed by nuclear explosions while supporting ground operations, on Terra for the Dire Wolf and Strana Mechty for the Howling. The CTS Thunderbird is the only remaining ship of its type in operation and with the destruction in the homeworlds no orbital yards could handle another refit save the Newgrange CBS Fara Church.
As a Battlecruiser the Feral fights at ranges the Black Lion is unable to match using its PPCs and lasers. As a target nears it can bring in 8 NAC/30s from most aspects. A Feral is capable of operating longer without resupply with little loss in raw firepower compared to the Black Lion due to its energy weapons although the guns are its primary firepower.
Barracuda missiles, Anti-missile systems, and Anti-Aerospace weapons dot the hull providing protection from Aerospace fighters and dropships close in while Naval Lasers can fire at them from afar. A Star of hull defense tanks reinforces the guns in the event of a swarm attack, a noteworthy design although not unexpected for the Hell's Horses design ascetic. One of the Sovetskii Soyuz's docking collars had to be removed to fit weapons and provide an opening for large thruster components. Its vestigial bracket serves as a tug mounting in case the ship is damaged and needs to be pushed to a repair depot.
