This is officially the "Jumping of the Shark" of the jumping 'mechs. Proof: It is jumping a poor Ha Otoko(a Diamond Shark 'mech)
I hope that this is the LAST jumping 'mech they do for a while. I am not sure if I am even going to bother buying one. The
stand looks way too big to fit onto a standard hex, and, frankly....I was really hoping for a non-jumping 'mech. My groups
fabricator is still working on modding the jumping rifleman to be like it is on cool terrain instead of jumping.

Why? don't they even bother listening to the fans? I don't need nor want another jumping 'Mech. This will make two years in a row that I won't even bother to try and acquire one. This one looks sillier than last year's jumping Rifleman

There was the question what do we like to see. IIRC majority was for a non-jumping and game usable mini. I think both wishes are missed shortly. The jump packs itself looks interesting. But i do not need jumping Atlas.

It looks as though the Atlas pilot has seriously lost control of his jump.....if he doesn't get his legs under him very quickly, it's not going to end well for either of them....

well, I think it's cool.

Infact, I like ALL of the jumping 'Mechs so far.  I really regret missing out on the jumping 7X Rifleman.  If there are anymore of those lying around, please let Me know!

Both of the Rifleman from last year will also be at all of the conventions this year that IWM is at.

So, does anyone know if the jump pack IS removable or not?  I can't believe it comes attached to the jump exhaust, or the blister would have to be Mighty Big!  :o  Can you Please give us more info on the mini Speck?   ???

I don't have any detail yet, but will inquire about it. I will see one at Origins when I am there.

I think the worst part about this mini is that there's no way it's usable in a game. It looks like it'll take 3 hexes on a hex map.  If you're playing the miniature rules, there's no where you can find cover.  If we're going to get an unplayable mini, I'd rather see another museum scale.

As for the jumping thing, it's just been over done.  It's one thing to see it on a Jade Hawk.  That's a mech that just looks cool in the air.  Even a highlander or a spider would have been neat.  When you start slapping jumping affects on units not known for their jumping abilities, it's time to head back to the drawing board.

Why not look into some popular classics that have had really static poses and give them a dynamic pose(not involving jump jets) of some kind?  Or do something like the catapult and give the option to build a drastically different variant that hasn't been available before.

Why? You don't like jumping mechs at all or jumping Atlas only?  O:-)

Then, You may consider this as rare item sale - Unbound's Jump Pack been part of BT-universe for 21 year, and now You can buy it for mere 25$ and with customized Atlas as bonus.

Glue it to some other mech, which do you have.  How about jumping Awesome? It's will be... mmm, simply awesome, no?  :)

For me,
I like limited jumping mechs, they really stand out on my shelves, filled by dozens of other minis.

Thats just to proof that an Atlas isn't made to jump.  :D

Btw. it would be a nice idea to have that jump pack in the scrapyard.

i tink this had been asked, but will these riflemen (?) and theis years atlas ever be available on the online store. i'm strangely attracted to this years and i'd love to have it (selfish question, i know). i haven't been impressed with all the jumping stuff, but this one doesn't bother me as much, in fact my only real complaint is that it's completely unusable in a game, but otherwise it's quite cool.
"Warriors, not war machines, are the backbone of the Hell's Horses. While others worship the BattleMech as the ultimate weapon, the men and women of this Clan see even this awesome piece of technology as the tool it is. We have held to this philosophy since the days of our first Khan, who knew that the value of the common soldier far outstripped the brute force of the BattleMech. It is one reason our Clan possesses fewer mechs than most, and has led many to underestimate our fierceness and courage. Our survival against all challengers when others have fallen proves the folly of such arrogance, and testifies to the wisdom of our founders."

I think it looks pretty cool.  Some out of control 100 tonner that isn't really meant to jump coming in hard at some poor bugger.  Also looks good by itself as drop pack for hover drops/orbital drops.

Given it is supposed to be the Star League year, a jumping Highlander would have been more appropriate

But...

Then, You may consider this as rare item sale - Unbound's Jump Pack been part of BT-universe for 21 year, and now You can buy it for mere 25$ and with customized Atlas as bonus.

Exactly.

2012 has also been the year of Tac Ops (2nd ed); a surprisingly massive effort. That and the fact that Siberian-troll has indeed nailed it: this miniature is an impressive hommage to a red-headed stepchild piece of equipment that's been part of the game forever. On the "baddest" 'Mech, to boot!

Beyond that, this miniature is something that nobody would have dreamt of kitbashing in a million years. Con Exclusives should IMO be really special to look at and not something that files under "useful" or "kitbash" (or likely, both). From that perspective, something like the jumping Hatchetman is a lot more special than the Catapult, again IMO.

Sigh. Poor Chunga. I was gonna not pester him with shopping spree requests this year. Ah well, sucks to be him.

So many versions of the Atlas have been done it just doesn't make me go WoW.   A Game usable mini is so much preferable in my mind. That said the jump pack looks cool.  I just don't like the look of a jumping Atlas.

Absolutely correct - but beside the jump pack itself, it is only a kitbash. ;)

Personally, I'm excited about the Atlas.  I don't like how hard it is to get the K4 Catapults because I want several of them - but I really only need one jumping T-Bolt.  The jumping 'Mechs are a cool display piece that may not be very practical on the tabletop, but that's okay.  That helps make them more special at Convention season.  The Atlas seems to take this to the next level - how can an Atlas in midflight not get attention?

While I'm not terribly excited about the jump pack, I know it will be an easy fix.

What I am excited about though, is that punching arm. That is going to open a hole new door for pose-ability on the Atlas...  [brew]

I'd be right there with you, except I recently spent a whole bunch of time making a punching arm for an existing Atlas of the current sculpt. *facepalm*.

I need this like a fat kid needs cake. For a guy who mods up Atli quite extensively the arms and legs are what I want the most. Granted one of these guys modded up to look like he is doing a stage dive onto a lance of light mechs is just too much to resist

It's an interesting redo of the Atlas......The first mini I have seen with a jump pack and not jump jets.  Will I buy it.......not sure......Would like a better picture.....the ones on IWM's site only show the side of it.

I'm not sure how many more pictures you want.  They put up 13 from just about every angle (except underneath).

I will get one when it hits the IWM site, all flaws can be fixed afterword, its simple enough to come up with a weighted hex base for it and a little bending or cutting of the flames won't hurt.
I don't set an example for others. I make examples of them.

The jump jet contrails are the standard ones they used for the jumping Riflemen last year, and most of the jumping CE's in previous years. All they did was bend these to make the Atlas jumping forward. You can just as easily have it jumping straight up.
