Planetlifter
« on: 11 June 2017, 17:34:51 »
Hello all.
Was looking at the MUL for AS and found the Planetlifter. I thought it looks cool but seems as there is no mini for it.
If there is a mini for it can I have a link, or if not what would be a good proxy. I was thinking a C17.
Thanks for any help/

No mini exists for it, but from the only art we have for it I'd say it's a pretty typical-style cargo plane (just with tilting engines). The Antonov AN-72 is probably the closest you're going to come, if you can find something in the right scale.

Eastern Express offered a 1/288 model of this plane. A company called Toko looks to be offering the old eastern express models now.if you want some missile pods the AN72 works also

I have a couple of different cargo planes I use. It has been so long though that I forget who the manufacturer is.

My advice would be the A-3 Skywarrior. Trumpeter sells a 1/350 model that is perfectly scaled for Battletech use, and you get six planes in the box.

I was thinking of that but I read that the plant lifter can carry mechs. I assume not assault though. I was thinking A C17 or AN22.
I have yet to see what the aircraft can do in terms of game use (other than a bomber) Was thinking of using it for scenarios or as terrain.
The simple answer is that I just want one haha.

Technically yes, but only 20-tonners, and removing them from the cargo bay isn't really something you can do during a tactical game. Your best bet is to use it as a cheap bomber, or to drop scads of paratroopers on someone. There's an armed version that's pretty lackluster, though the support model in TRO Prototypes is pretty kickass.

That's the same thing I did for Planetlifters. I just snipped the engine pylons off and plasti-welded them upside above the wings. A little extra work on the landing gear and it's a decent proxy for a vehicle that will probably never be made into a mini.

The rules have made the Planetlifter not quite as nifty as described under the fluff.

Might look at some of the TROVA designs like the FB-333 which can haul more though it also does not have a mini it might be easier to assemble.

Looked around for the FB-333 couldnt find anything on it.

As for all the replies thanks all.
Decided to use the Halo Pelican as I like Halo, and the Pelican is the coolest thing I seen. Its about 4 inches long so might be small but works for the game better.

yeah, I always mess up the numbers

I like it b/c with that design you can move a lance of Scorpions in a single flight.  Makes for a suitable QRF for planets without DS or small craft resources.
