Infantry and the Tonbo
« on: 28 March 2011, 21:02:15 »
Simple question. Ignoring the infantry bay, can and how does the Tonbo pick up infantry and battle armour with its Lift Hoists? A man per hoist? By the ton? Can it do it at all?

If they haven't purpose-made an infantry/BA carrier for it (I can see companies making these as after-market parts), then a spare intermodal cargo container could do.  I'd need direct orders, and probably a mild sedative, to handle doing that.

Not to mention what those poor trunk monkeys will need in terms of airsickness baggies, replacement underwear, etc. trapped in a cargo container... the hidden costs of the terrifying.

Yes. Practical RL considerations aside, non-mechanized infantry is still cargo; 3 tons of lifting capacity is enough for a full platoon of 28 troopers; 6 tons will lift a motorized platoon of 28 troopers and their vehicles.

How? well, conceptually each trooper could have a strapped fast-release carabiner as part of their standard battle rattle; one uses a hook or loop of some kind to attach to the hoist and his squadmates/platoon mates latch on as well. Motorized platoons mount heavy-duty carabiners on the vehicles and the troopers hook on to these.

While seemingly silly in a RL application, in-universe the rules allow it.
